Guthrie House Care Home is located in Edinburgh's Liberton area and is close to shops, amenities, public transport and the A720 city bypass. Cameron Toll Shopping Centre is less than one mile away.

This brand new purpose built home has been tastefully decorated to a high standard and offers accommodation in single occupancy rooms, all of which are with en-suite facilities.

Guthrie House provides TV lounges, quiet sitting rooms and secure enclosed gardens for residents to relax and enjoy. Separate dining rooms, where residents can socialise at meal times, are also available. Traditional home cooking using fresh produce is served.

Residents may benefit from the regular visits made to the home by an experienced hair stylist and qualified chiropodist. The home can also arrange for complementary therapies for residents.

The home employs an activities therapist that co-ordinates a varied programme for residents.

My partner has been so well looked after on Skye's unit in Guthrie House Care Home. The staff are excellent and nothing is too much trouble. I am always welcomed by the manager and the team and I even stay for some meals with my wife. The care is 120%- I would highly recommend Guthrie House to anyone
needing good quality care.

Firstly, the care for my aunt was good but I moved her as her mind was regressing as she had no one to talk to as even on a non Dementia floor none of the other residents could communicate. The problem I have, and still ongoing, is that the finance department is refusing to communicate with me over
funds they have overcharged me. On the 1st of April, the Scottish Government increased the amount paid for personal and nursing care to those self-funding. This would have made a big difference to me but the finance department has remained silent despite taking this up with the administrator, the manager, and head office. You are not permitted to speak to the finance department directly. This is not the first time that I have had issues with them. I was accused of not paying when they had not taken it themselves. I am prepared to take the matter to the small claims court and will involve the Care Commission as they should have the power to stop this from happening to anyone else.

My aunt lives in Guthrie House and has been so well looked after since she arrived in November 2021. She has a lovely room with spectacular city views and is helped into the garden to potter around. Her care is excellent, and she wants for nothing. She/we cannot praise the staff highly enough for their
commitment and dedication. You are always welcomed with a friendly smile and made to feel at home.

The staff are all very caring and attentive to my relative. The home has a great activity team and it is great to see what they are doing on the Facebook page, this really engages the residents. I am also impressed by the management as they keep us updated on what is happening and also know my relative

A huge thanks to all the team who made my friend's final few months so much better. I was always made to feel extremely welcome and my friend felt very comfortable in the home. There were plenty of activities for them to do which meant they were included and met other people. The staff were also excellent
and kept me up to date with how my friend was doing. I can't thank them enough.

Thank you to the manager and the team for the kindness shown with such care and compassion in my mother's last days. Sadly she didn't live long at Guthrie but we knew she was coming into your care for what would be her end of life. You provided this to a level I can never thank you enough for but over

My mother was treated with care and respect throughout the three short months she was resident at Guthrie House Care Home. She said she felt comfortable and safe and was well looked after. I always found the staff to be approachable, welcoming and very helpful and was always kept informed if staff were
concerned about her health. Guthrie House Care home handled my mothers rapidly deteriorating health professionally and with respect for her and my family. They handled her passing with great sensitivity and care.

Where to begin from the moment we met, we felt confident, happy and reassured that our mum would be cared for. The team just exudes compassion but with humor and they just get it. It was with trepidation that we looked for care for our father. Covid still loomed and we felt fearful. We were overwhelmed by the honesty and openness of the manager and reassured by the pathways in place to protect people. Dad has settled in so well. We can now take him out with safety measures. We
can visit regularly and enjoy the banter of this kind acting staff team. The lady in the office is a delight and so is the manager. The carers overwhelm you with their commitment especially being aware of the challenges and concerns not only of dad but just in general. We are so pleased we reached this decision to place dad in Guthrie. Thank you all just isn't enough. By the way, Facebook photos are fab.

It is without question that my father-in-law got nearly three more quality years of life due to the care he received at Guthrie House. It was very hard to come to terms mum couldn't look after herself. I needn't have worried. She has settled in with no problems, the staff are so friendly and caring, very respectful of mum's needs. Highlights having a hairdresser on-site, she's there every Monday morning, had a movie afternoon, and
painting classes. She's looking forward to when the bingo starts. Loneliness was a problem before she moved in but not now. Thanks to everyone who works here.

We chose Guthrie House because of its location and the fact there were nurses on each floor. We have been delighted with our choice. The staff (all of them) are caring and compassionate and interact in a warm manner with residents and visitors. Their care of my mother has been very comforting to me

Mum has been in the nursing home since July 2020. This means she did not receive visitors for a large part of the time. It also means we are less familiar with the facilities and staff than is ideal. We would love things to be relaxed further to help improve mum's quality of life. The staff seem very

The staff in this home helped at a very stressful time. My husband came in just a couple of months before lockdown and I was very pleased with his care. It was difficult not being able to visit but the staff were always there to tell you how things were doing with his care. I am looking forward to being
allowed back in when it suits us instead of having to arrange a time, but all in all, I am satisfied with my husbands care.

With nearly 30 years of leadership in health and social care, Shirley Ramsay is dedicated to providing exceptional person-centred care and empowering her staff to achieve positive outcomes. Her extensive experience includes pivotal roles at Leonard Cheshire, Scottish Autism, and ELCAP, where she consistently achieved top ratings from the Care Inspectorate.


Since joining Guthrie House in April, she has been inspired by the talented and dedicated team. Shirley holds numerous qualifications, including an SVQ 4 in Health and Social Care and is an intermediate trainer in Positive Behavioural Support.


Passionate about outdoor activities, Shirley enjoys swimming, kayaking, jogging, and spending time with her family and friends.


Her greatest pride is her two incredible daughters.
