My dad was a resident in Barchester Balclutha Court Care Home for 9 months. The home is warm and friendly and so welcoming. The staff treated my dad like he was their own family and made the experience so much easier. He was loved by all the staff and we are very grateful for their excellent care and
attention from the day he was admitted until he passed away.

My grandad was extremely well cared for in the home. He was treated with respect and dignity at all times and the end of his life was made better through his care. The staff are all so kind and caring and should be commended for all their hard work.

My gran has been a resident now for a few months. When she first arrived she was very unsettled but I can honestly say, thanks to the staff on the floor, nurses and management, my gran has become more settled as time goes on. She has dementia and limited mobility and the staff provide a person-centred
approach to care for her. Activities are well-planned and my gran has been enjoying a few of these while she has been a resident. Staff within the care home are very approachable and are willing to work with my family to make sure my gran receives the best care. No complaints at all - excellent care with supportive and caring staff.

Our mum has been a resident at Barchester Balclutha Court Care Home for nine months. As a family, we feel we can trust the staff.
We appreciate the transparency from the care home, in general, and are happy with the regular communication.
We are aware that the building is older and it would be good
if all residents could have an en-suite bathroom. The recent redecorating is nice, especially the garden room. The staff, in general, are caring and we feel our mum gets treated with respect.
The activity staff are great also.
Appreciate that working and running a care home is a very difficult job, with every day bringing different challenges. Despite this, the manager, deputy manager and team do a great job.

As a family, we could never fault this place my father-in-law just loves it. The staff are all lovely very welcoming and also very professional in thier roles.
The manager and deputy manager's doors are always left open if you need a chat about anything. When my father-in-law was unwell they were on
the phone to us straight away to tell us he had to hospital. All I can say is this home is 10 out of 10 for everything

Cannot recommend Barchester Balclutha Court Care Home highly enough. They give the residents so much care and attention. You only have to ask for something once and it is done, from hospital appointments to what are the residents favourite things to do. The staff are just the best and the home is spotless.
The residents all like to stop you in the corridor to have a wee chat, they all seem to know each other. We can pop in at any time with no notice to see our loved ones. Keep up the great work guys and thank you all.

From day one the experience in Balclutha was first class. Staff at all levels are excellent. The care, compassion and understanding of all of the carers shines through. Despite the long hard working days the staff always have time for the residents. I cannot praise this care home highly enough.

It is always a pleasure to visit Barchester Balclutha Court Care Home. I visit 22 people from our church going once a week doing the top and bottom floors alternate weeks. Due to fewer to visit on the top floor, I usually manage a few on the bottom floor every week. The staff are very helpful and welcoming
and the people I visit are very happy with their care. I have got to know some relatives too as I do my rounds.

Balclutha has taken my sister at a critical time. She was discharged from the hospital with several issues, including Parkinson's as well as cognitive dysfunction. You have stabilised these issues and helped her through the loss of ability to stand and the related loss of independence issues and difficulties
as her world shrank. She has responded to being treated with respect whilst being aware of the realities and limitations of her condition. Thank you.

My mother was recently in respite at Barchester Balclutha Court Care Home in Greenock. The overall experience was excellent, from a warm welcome at reception through to every member of staff I encountered being friendly and attentive to my mother. The rooms are spotlessly clean, the food looked very
good and activities were available for my mother. Medication was handled professionally and promptly, my mother felt safe within the home and only had praise for all the staff, including management. Should we require respite in the future, Balclutha will be not only ours but my mother’s preferred option. Well done to the manager and all the staff at Balclutha.

I feel most thankful for the care provided. I only have a few "quibbles" which might be considered. why does perfection matter if we lose human contact as a result? Can staff be allowed to get on with what they're doing without interference? They manage better when pairs are required! We would enjoy
our meals more if there wasn't pressure to get finished. Let us recognise that we all have value - staff and residents alike.

I cannot recommend the home enough in terms of how it’s run and the care that is provided to the residents; the staff are super friendly and really care about their residents. The activities that they organise are fantastic.
Our uncle was well looked after, and the staff took the time to get to know
him and what his passions were.
The only downside is the rooms don’t have en-suites compared to some of the more modern homes, but the home itself is spotless.
This is the second time we’ve had a relative in the home, and I would recommend it to anyone thinking about it.

I am delighted and relieved that my stepfather has settled in Balclutha Court and chose himself not to return home as he wasn't coping with his health issues. He feels happy and secure knowing the staff are always there for support, his health has improved since going there in May 2023. Also, he is
enjoying the company of other residents which has enabled him to have a better quality of life with purpose, enjoying the activities and outings. He is so comfortable in his surroundings with a few of his own items from home and new which has helped him settle. I am very grateful to the home manager who accessed him before admission observed him and listened to what he wanted, I feel all of the staff are very professional, friendly, and approachable it's definitely a person-centred home from my experience which my star ratings reflect.

I came to stay at Balclutha Court Care Home in January 2023 - since then I have come to really love staying here. the activities are really good - you get such a good laugh and the company is great. I have made new friends not only with the residents but with the staff too. They really include me with
everything going on.
I feel like I have been welcomed into a nice big new family here. My own family come and visit me, they can pop in whenever they like, it's brilliant. I have a lovely room with all my personal bits in it and a locker where I can keep things safe. I even have a fridge my brother brought in for me for my juices and snacks. The food is lovely - especially the steak pies and sausage casseroles. The kitchen staff are really attentive and look after me making sure I get something to eat that I like. I'd like to leave a special comment on the girls that help look after me - they are wonderful and I have struck up a few nice relationships with them, they helped me settle in well.

Balclutha Court Care Home is absolutely lovely! From the very first day I went to view the home for my mum I just knew this was the place, the atmosphere as soon as you walk through the doors is so welcoming and friendly, and the staff go above and beyond in their duties with all residents. They give
the best care and support to my mum 24/7 and meet her everyday needs. My mum became a resident at the end of March and the turnaround in my mum's eating, communication, interaction and walking is phenomenal, to say the least. Balclutha Care Home is always clean and tidy and every time I have visited the maintenance men/staff are always on the go which is a nice sight to see. Residents always seem very happy and content and enjoying activities and the company of each other, my mum has even gotten used to going to the dining room for her meals now whereas before she wouldn't even eat and joins in with activities. "I couldn't have picked a better care home for my mum to stay".

Mum has now been in Balclutha Court Care Home for about six months and she has settled in well. The staff are great and always say to call them any time if we have any worries or want to speak with Mum. Everyone is so nice and they go out of their way to help. The food is delicious and there is lots
of it! The activities ladies are great and we like seeing the pictures they post on social media. This really helps to know that Mum is safe and being looked after as we do not live locally and we can see what the residents are getting up to!

I moved my mum up from England to Balclutha Court in October last year so she could be closer to me as I stay local to the home. The whole team at Balclutha have been excellent and with their great help and knowledge, mums move went flawlessly. My mum loves the home and her room and has settled in very
nicely. She enjoys the entertainment provided and also the tea/cake trolley that seems to never stop coming around. All the staff that I have come into contact with are friendly and always have a smile on their face and a hello for you when you go into visit. Mum is always saying that she likes the staff and is always laughing and having a joke with them. Any questions I have raised have been welcomed and answered quickly. Overall I am very impressed with Balclutha who has welcomed and settled my mum into a friendly, caring and safe environment where she loves being. This in turn has made my whole family happy knowing that she is in a safe place and being well looked after.

Balclutha Court, I have great respect for the management and all the staff that work there. I am a regular visitor and I love the warm welcome I get from everyone that works there, they are compassionate and kind, not only to residents but to us that visit too. Always offered tea or coffee when residents
get one and sometimes you could be doing with tea when I am there, so thank you. The staff are very helpful whether you are making a payment, or asking any questions you might have regarding your loved one or about Balclutha in general. The nursing staff are very good at informing you about any falls or any questions you might have and it's taken care of immediately, so your loved one's health comes first. The activities director and team are top-notch in all the activities they do with the residents, my stepfather just loves going there. He has a better life and has come on so well with having company and has made so many wonderful gifts for us, at the Activities. Balclutha care home are excellent.

Alison Dickson

Job Title: General Manager

Joined: 1991

Alison started at Balclutha Court as a newly qualified Nurse in 1991, she was the first staff nurse to be employed within the home and can still remember the first day she walked through the door, over the years she has been promoted and became General Manager in 2000. Alison is responsible for the day to day running of the home ensuring that all the staff provide excellent care to the residents and promoting a happy and friendly atmosphere. She never thought she would take up the post as General Manager, however, it is the best thing she has ever done. Alison sees the residents and staff at Balclutha Court as her family and it plays a big part in her life. Alison loves to take part in the activities, especially if there is a chance to dress up, fun is key within the home.


Alison is married and has a Border Terrier called Poppy, who visits the home regularly. She has always been a seasoned traveller, travelling far afield such as Mexico, Thailand and the Dominican Republic but since Poppy arrived things have changed for Alison, it is now more Gran Canaria and Arran. Alison enjoys eating out, shopping and spending quality time with her husband and Poppy and is also a big fan of Gary Barlow!!


Julie

Julie Wilson

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Joined: 1995

Julie began her career here at Balclutha Court as a newly qualified Staff Nurse in 1995. She was promoted through the years, first becoming Sister, then Senior Sister and then finally becoming Deputy Manager. Julie is responsible for assisting the General Manager in the daily running of the home and is a great support to Alison. She is also the home trainer, providing and co-ordinating all the training for the staff.


Julie lives at home with her partner, daughter and her dog Benji, she met her partner within Balclutha Court a good number of years ago when he worked here as a Carer. Julie loves her family time, reading a good book, going walks with the dog and girlie days out with her daughter.


Rhona

Rhona Findlay

Job Title: Administrator

Joined: 2000

Rhona is the Administrator at the Home. She assists the manager with all aspects of the administration and finance within the home. Rhona started her career at Balclutha Court in 2000.


Rhona is married with two beautiful children, a boy and a girl - they often pop in to say hello to the residents and staff. Her family life keeps her extremely busy trying to balance work and kids activities. Rhona is a music fan and you often can’t get her off the karaoke. She also enjoys walking, reading and spending quality time with her friends and family.


Anne

Anne Foreman

Job Title: Admin Assistant

Joined: 1992

Anne is part-time Admin Assistant, assisting the Administrator in the finance and the administration of the home. Anne started working at Balclutha Court in 1992 and since then she has become someone everyone knows and loves to speak to. She is always happy and bubbly, you will always find her this way. She can multitask, answer the phone, count money, solve a staff members problem and have a full conversation with a resident all at the same time!!! Anyone who visits the home always gets a kind word.


Anne has two daughters and four grandchildren, they play a huge part in her life and when she is not at work she keeps herself busy spending time with the children. Anne’s hobbies are shopping, especially for unusual jewellery (you always know what to get her for a present) and reading, she often tells us of the latest romance story that she has been reading. She also loves to dress up and join in with the activities in the home.


Jill

Jill Magee

Job Title: Admin Assistant

Joined: 2004

Jill is part-time Admin Assistant, assisting the Administrator in the finance and the administration of the home, she also covered when the Administrator was off on maternity leave. She has been with the home since 2004, starting when she was only a young girl of 18.


Jill was recently married and shared her big day with the residents, attending the home straight after the ceremony. Jill lives at home with her husband and her two cats Coco & Cosmo, who are very mischievous. She takes pride in her “wee” flat and is very house proud. Her hobbies include reading a good book, swimming, shopping and housework


Heather

Heather McDowall

Job Title: Sister

Joined: 1997

Heather trained at Stirling University and qualified in 1997, Heather first started working in Balclutha Court as a newly qualified Staff Nurse, she was promoted to Sister in 2002. She is responsible for ensuring a high standard of care is delivered to the residents. In the absence of the General Manager, she ensures the home runs smoothly.


Heather lives with her partner and her two girls, the girls keep Heather on her toes and her extremely busy. Her hobbies are reading a good book, being creative around the house, gardening. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends, especially large family gatherings when her family visit from Australia which is also a dream of her and her family.


Sita

Sita Ali

Job Title: Sister

Joined: 2001

Sita was recruited by the home in 2001 from Guyana as a Staff Nurse, to be quite honest we weren’t sure whether Sita was going to stay as the General Manager served her some Scottish cuisine, however, she is still here and is now Sister. She is responsible for ensuring a high standard of care is delivered to the residents. In the absence of the General Manager, she ensures the home runs smoothly. Sita also is the Moving & Handling Trainer for the home.


Sita lives at home with her husband, two grown-up children who she is extremely proud of. She has worked extremely hard over the years to put her children through university. Sita loves to shop and likes to keep up with the latest fashions. She also likes to return home to Guyana to be with her family and visit her sisters in Canada and New York. She plans to return to New York with her daughter this year, which she is really looking forward to. Her hobbies include relaxing at home and having “me time”, socialising with her friends and dining out.


Karen

Karen Dillon

Job Title: Activites Organiser

Our activities team is made up of Karen Dillon, Magi Bell and Sharon McArthur. Between them, they ensure the residents are happy and have loads of fun.


They have a jam-packed weekly activities programme which includes, excursions, tea parties, knitting bee, arts & crafts, Mega Scrabble, Carpet bowls, Domino and Jigsaw Clubs and much much more. Every fortnight we have local entertainers who provide live music and we all party, having a dance and a wee tipple should it take your fancy. We also have movie afternoons showing on our big screen and another favourite of our residents is our exercise class.


We are very keen to involve the residents in the decision making within the home to enhance their experience, they take part in the resident's meetings, catering forums and assist the General Manager in interviewing new staff. The residents really enjoy this and take great pleasure in offering the right candidate the position.


Our aim at Balclutha Court is to ensure the residents are happy as they possibly can be and enjoy living within the home

Poppy Dickson

Job Title: The Wee Dog

Poppy is the General Manager’s dog, she is a Border Terrier. She enjoys regular visits to the home, and has been coming in since she was just a pup. She loves to come in and see all her Aunties and Uncles who spoil her with her favourite titbit carrots! She can be a Diva at times this tends to be with her Mummy and Daddy and everyone else gets the kisses and cuddles. Poppy’s hobbies include leisurely walks along the beach and a good hike up the hills. She is often found lying in the sunniest spot in the reception area.


Liz

Liz Gallacher

Job Title: Housekeeper

Joined: 1999

Liz started at Balclutha Court in 1999 as a Domestic Assistant and was promoted to Housekeeper in 2008. Liz is responsible for ensuring high standards of cleanliness within the home and managing her team of four laundry assistants and five domestic assistants.


Liz is very family orientated, spending a lot of her time away from work with her sister, grown-up son & his wife. She enjoys going for long walks, reading and going holidays abroad.


Brenda

Brenda Storey

Job Title: Charge Nurse

Brenda is our Charge Nurse on the night shift. She came to Balclutha in June 2019 and is responsible for ensuring that a high standard of care is delivered to the residents.


Brenda has three daughters and lives at home with the two youngest. She enjoys having girly nights with them along with her mum and sister. She loves spending quality time with her partner and his son, even though they make her walk up big hills and mountains. Family and friends are really important to Brenda.


Angelica

Angelica Docherty

Job Title: Senior Staff Nurse

Angelica started working at Balclutha Court in September 2013 as a Staff Nurse, and was promoted to Senior Staff Nurse in October 2019. She is responsible for ensuring a high standard of care is delivered to the residents.


Angelica is originally from the Philippines and has two gorgeous grown-up children. Angelica is happily married and lives with her husband Billy, and Toffee, their beloved cat! Angelica and Billy fell in love at Balclutha Court, as he also works as a Staff Nurse. Angelica has many hobbies, including handbag shopping, cooking and baking, watching films and listening to music. She also shares the love of travel with her husband—they are always off on their travels! She is a social butterfly and loves spending time with her family and friends.


Gerry

Gerry Thomson

Job Title: Head Chef

Gerry started work at Balclutha Court in 2012 as an Assistant Chef, in early 2019 he was promoted to Head Chef. He is responsible for the daily running of the kitchen, ensuring that residents nutritional needs are met, providing a varied menu. He is also responsible for ensuring that there are high standards of cleanliness throughout the kitchen. Gerry’s team consist of two Assistant Chefs and seven Kitchen Assistants.


Gerry has two children, a boy and a girl, he also has two dogs, Nico and Bella. Gerry is great fun and loves music, you can always hear him singing away as he carries out his work. He loves the great outdoors and can often be found fishing on his time off.
