Since arriving at Whitehill Golfhill Care Home the staff have shown great care and compassion towards my mum. All staff are friendly and go out of their way to help answer my questions about dementia and medical needs. The staff are fantastic at encouraging Mum to participate in activities, she loves
to crochet, get her nails done, karaoke, baking and getting her hair done. They encourage her to remain mobile and independent. I never leave worried about her after visiting as I know she is in good caring hands. Lots of festive parties to look forward to.

Also delighted to be able to reassure you and the family that she is safe and being well cared for. We will pass on your kind words to the team. Best wishes.

My grandad had been a resident in Golfhill Care Home since December 31st 2022 until recently when he passed away on May 17th 2024. The care standards that he received during his time living there were by far the best we could have asked for. The staff treated him like family and it touched all of the
family to see he was cared for so well. We will always be so grateful to the staff for everything they have done for him and for how welcome they made us all feel when visiting. Truly a great bunch of people.

Reply from Paul Lawson, National Sales Manager at Golfhill Care Home

Thank you so much for your lovely review. On behalf of the whole team we extend our ongoing condolences after the recent loss of your dear grandad. It is reassuring to know that you and the family were pleased with the care he received at Golfhill. We will miss him dearly. Sending our very best wishes.

My mother was in here for respite for a week as I was away on a break and thought it would be safer for her to go into 24/7 care. I picked her up today to be horrified by the lack of care she has received. She has stitches in her head and is covered in bruises, left to sit soaked in her urine all day.
Honestly, I wouldn't advise anyone to put their loved ones into this care home no matter how short the stay. Today has been hard seeing the state of my mum. The staff don't seem to have a clue what's going on. Avoid at all costs! I'd give zero if could.

Reply from Paul Lawson, National Sales Manager at Golfhill Care Home

We are very sorry that your mother has had a fall whilst staying at the Care Home. We reported this to you straight away, and to Adult Support and Protection who have now investigated and closed the case. Unfortunately a Care Home stay does not eradicate the risk of falls completely, however it is not a common occurrence so when it does happen we are sure to follow all of the correct procedures as we did on this occasion. We send our very best wishes to your mother and hope that she is doing well and keeping safe. Thank-you.

My mum got an emergency respite place until a permanent place closer to family became available. Mum seemed to befriend the staff rather than the other residents. The staff were great with her.

The care staff are amazing, each and every one of them. They make a fuss of my mum and she loves all the attention. It was my mum's 100th birthday on July 1st and they put on a fantastic party for her. The rooms could do with updating; painting, new flooring, new furniture (Mum's drawers need replacing).
The room is small - not a lot can be done about that. It's time visitors were allowed in the dayroom - like before COVID!

Reply from Paul Lawson, National Sales Manager at Golfhill Care Home

Hello and thank you so much for your review and feedback. Your mum's 100th was a wonderful occasion and it was fantastic that the community and other resident's got so involved to help her celebrate such a momentous occasion. Thank you for raising the point about room refurbishments, which we will be addressing over the winter months and also your feedback about visitor access to the day room, which we will pass on to the appropriate team member for consideration. Best wishes and thank you again for helping us to mark your mum's big birthday with such a great party!

This is a positive review of my nephew who is disabled and staying at Golfhill Care Home. His care is good, and the staff are patient and kind. They are professional and he is given support and made to feel at home at a very difficult time for him. He has only been there a short time and we hope he
will continue to be happy there.

My mum was admitted to the Dennistoun Unit from the hospital last year following a fall and stroke. I live in the USA and was immediately impressed with the way the staff there made the extra effort to involve me remotely in Mum's care plan. Unfortunately, Mum has since been diagnosed with Alzheimer's
and I really wanted to have her cared for by Golfhill Care Home again - this time in their memory unit, Whitehill. There were a ton of administrative roadblocks in our way to achieving this goal and, without the support and guidance of the customer relations manager, I honestly don't think I could have done so. Mum has been in Whitehill for 3 days now and some of the staff from the Dennistoun Unit remembered her and came to greet her. All of the staff there have been amazingly caring - requesting many details from me so that they can ensure Mum's individual requirements are met. I am so relieved to know Mum's in a safe and caring environment.

Dear Joann. Thank you so much for your review and we are absolutely delighted to have your mum back living with us at Golfhill. It's been a pleasure assisting you along the way to make this happen and we all look forward to seeing you again when you are back in the country. We will pass on your kind words to all the team, Best wishes.

I have found the carers at the home very attentive and look after my wife well. I had a problem with one of the carers, but it was resolved. The person concerned was quite aggressive to the residents, but I reported her to the management, and she was reprimanded; thankfully, she has left the home, which
made me feel more at ease knowing she is not there anymore.

I visited my brother on Wednesday the 13th of July 2022, on entering Golfhill I was welcomed by a very nice staff member. On entering my brother's room I found it to be very clean, neat and tidy. I always find the staff very friendly and pleasant. The care he is given on a daily basis is excellent which
is of comfort to me knowing my brother is in safe hands at all times.

My sister is in Golfhill and although individual staff are kind and supportive a great deal needs to improve.
Staffing levels are an issue, especially at the weekends. There is also staff churn which impacts the relationships that are built up over time.
The standard of the food is poor and the times
when you can ask for a meal are subject to the times the kitchen is open.
There is a culture of saying no rather than thinking about how can we make that happen.
It’s a difficult job and the pay is not great but more needs to be done to provide staff with support in relation to training and understanding of complex needs.

Reply from Paul Lawson, Customer Service Manager Golfhill at Golfhill Care Home

Thank you very much for your review and for your complimentary comment about our kind and supportive staff. Your feedback is valuable to us as we strive to achieve and maintain high standards in all aspects of our service. We are happy to let you know that over the last month we have not been required to use any day agency staff in Craigpark House, we have several new experienced permanent recruits and have been operating on a high ratio of staff to Residents. Hopefully, on your next visit, this will be evident. We also have a new head chef on board who has made a lot of improvements and we are now receiving very positive feedback around the quality and choice of food served. Your sister often asks for alternatives to our daily menus which we are happy to provide. All new recruits complete a wide range of in-house and external training on induction and training is ongoing throughout their service with new compulsory courses being added regularly. Thanks again and best wishes.

My mum lives in Golfhill Care Home. She has Alzheimer’s disease and the care she gets in Whitehill House is outstanding. She fell and broke her hip last October and the rehabilitation programme set up by the manager and her staff literally got Mum back on her feet again. Every resident is treated with
great care and respect. The staff very quickly get to know the residents natures, their likes and dislikes and treat them accordingly.
Golfhill closed for visitors about ten days before lockdown, and the staff have done an amazing job in caring for their residents throughout this Coronavirus situation. It is very difficult not being able to see our mother at this very vulnerable stage in her life, but the staff have kept us up to date at all times. They have put telephone/FaceTime arrangements in place for residents/families. There is also a Facebook page where pictures are posted, usually during a fun activity or a celebration. We can see that Mum is happy, healthy and safe.

My mum has been a resident at Golfhill for five years. My mum first arrived at Golfhill aged 59 with advanced early-onset Alzheimer’s. The care provided for my mum has been outstanding and consistent throughout the years. My mum's age and deterioration has provided many challenges for staff but the
staff have always risen to the challenge and she has been very well cared for and respected. I am especially thankful to all staff over the past few months who have done everything possible to reduce the risk of Coronavirus for both residents and staff. I would not hesitate to recommend Golfhill to anyone looking for respite or permanent care for a friend, relative or loved one.

My mum has been in Golfhill for 6 months, she has been treated with dignity and respect, the staff are very good with all the residents, its good to see photos especially because the home is in lockdown due to COVID-19. In the photos, they all seem to be kept busy. Mum is happy and well cared for,
which is my main priority.

My mother recently spent some time in Dennistoun House for intermediate care following discharge from hospital.
Every aspect of her stay there was excellent. The care and attention she received from every member of staff was wonderful.
Our family cannot believe the difference in her! She has now gone
into another care home on a permanent basis and we can only hope that she will continue to thrive there. Dennistoun House has set the bar very high.
Thanks to all.

My wife went into Golfhill Care home six months ago and at that time she was very stressed but due to the care and perseverance of the nursing home, house manager and staff on finding suitable medication to control her mood swings, I don't know what we would have done.
She is more settled now and
is in a better place mentally and is more manageable. I can't thank the staff enough, as there was a time when we thought we may have to put her into hospital care. This has taken a lot of stress off me and my family.

The staff at Golfhill Care Home are excellent carers. Activities could be improved, but overall the home is adequate. Hairdressing services need to be improved as this is poor. The care at this home, for my mum, has been without question outstanding. The hospital gave her hours to live, refused treatment
and nine months on at the home, my mum is thriving. The care received, far outweighs any other issues.

Current Review Score: 7.2 (7.193)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.2 (7.193) out of 10 for Golfhill Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.8 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.800 for Golfhill Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (34 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (12 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 3.8

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.393 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Golfhill Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 105 registered maximum number of service users is 21. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 21 = 0.143

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
