I recently attended the 80th birthday party of a friend who is a resident at Buchanan House Care Home. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and went the extra mile to make my friend's birthday party a very special occasion for her. I was very impressed by what they had done. The home was decorated
nicely in the conservatory, and there was a nice atmosphere. Also, beautiful flowers and a lovely cake.

My husband was in for two weeks respite care. He is not able to swallow and is peg fed. He has dementia.
There was a shortage of staff and he wasn't up every day. He wasn't changed daily. He was kept in his room and did not see other residents.
I had to arrange my own transport for him.
I was disappointed
with his care.

I attended the summer party at Buchanan House. It was really well done and all the staff were wonderfully dressed up as cowboys and doing songs and dance routines. The residents and guests all had a lovely time.

Choosing a care home for a family member is a really hard decision, I visited many care homes in the area and Buchanan House Care Home was a clear winner, it felt like a home from home for my mum and somewhere I knew she would get the care, love and safety she deserved. The activity team and permanent
staff are amazing and a true credit to the home throughout what has been a terrible few years they kept everyone smiling and we felt close to them even though we could not visit. Regular Facebook posts have given me daily peace of mind that mum is OK. Unfortunately due to the pandemic, there have been noticeable staff shortages and a need for agency staff. As my mum and many of the other residents have alzheimer's/dementia this is hard as they don't know their little quirks and special needs and can be confusing to not have the consistency of familiar faces who know them. Many friends have visited and seen the care given and asked if they can book a place!

All the staff are very approachable and kind to both visitors and relatives. My husband settled into Buchanan House Care Home quickly, even though he was really troubled before moving in, after being diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. He talks highly of the staff and is very content. Both management,
nursing and care staff have been very accommodating since my husband moved in. They are very friendly and empathetic to family members as well as residents, and they always spare a few minutes to chat. My husband's condition deteriorated quite rapidly and I am still dealing with the shock of the change in his personality. I was so worried when I eventually had to admit defeat in terms of looking after him and was concerned about his future care. However, since he moved into Buchanan House Care Home last November, it has given me peace of mind and confidence that he is being looked after well.

Accommodation is well maintained and environment is comfortable. Staff are caring and attentive to my mother's needs and ever-diminishing capacities. Communication from the home provides alerts to any emergent issues. Activities and engagement are of high standards. Communication via newsletters and
social media entries provide ongoing reassurance.

The care home has obviously had a very difficult period over the last 2-years, and I think they have coped well. It is difficult at the moment to assess the situation in the care home as we are only now getting some limited access inside, also there is a new manager who we have never met. However, I
have noticed on one of their online pages that there seem to be a lot more activities for the residents, such as games and craftwork. Also, there are some new staff who have been very pleasant and helpful.

Pleasant, friendly staff, who seem to genuinely care for the residents in their care.
The greeter is especially friendly, helpful and welcoming.
The other carers are very caring and helpful to my aunt.

The permanent staff and carers in Buchanan House Care Home are excellent and in my experience go above and beyond from clerical staff to domestic staff to carers and nurses and activity staff. However, I am concerned with the number of agency staff currently being used who don’t know my mum. I realise
there is a real national shortage but this fact doesn’t reduce the concern.

My husband has been in Buchanan House for several months now and has been very well cared for. He is always well dressed and clean looking. I am always informed about all aspects of my husband's care by the staff. I would like to see more permanent care staff as opposed to agency carers, as I think
there is a better rapport with permanent staff.

My aunt moved into Buchanan House after struggling at home. We were extremely happy with the care she received and the home always had a lovely atmosphere. She loved the food and company that felt like home and I would definitely recommend it.

The staff at Buchanan House are amazing. My 91 old mum always says they can't do enough for her. They treat her with great care and respect. She loves the food and is definitely much healthier since she moved there in January. Management is very approachable and are quick to offer solutions to any concerns
you have.

My mother has been a resident of Buchanan House for over 18 years. I feel that the staff are part of our family. They are very approachable and easy to share any concerns with. The care my mother has received has always been excellent and very professional, especially over the Covid Pandemic. She has
never once looked "uncared for", which would have been of considerable concern and upset to the family. The nursing care is compassionate. This was shown when my father moved there for his last few months. The activity team works hard to keep residents interested in a variety of activities. The menus are attractive to the residents and the catering staff are able to respond to new ideas. The new visitor champions are an excellent idea and allow other staff to get on with their actual jobs. In summary, Buchanan House Care Home has been my mother's home for a great number of years, it is very well run and I would strongly recommend it.

My mother is well looked after and treated as a special person, with respect. We are updated frequently on my mother's health and welfare and sent photos etc of her activities. She has been in Buchanan House Care Home for nearly two years and has celebrated a 100th and a 101st birthday.

This home has the most amazing team of nurses and carers. My mum was admitted in September and it was such a lovely experience for her. She got involved in the various activities and made friends quickly. She never asked about "going home", which is really what you want when someone you love can no
longer look after themselves. The staff were happy to answer any questions or concerns and never made you feel you were wasting time. I can honestly say that the staff became my mum's family. During these Covid times, that is what you want when you can't be there in person. My mum passed away at the end of December, we know the staff were with her and we take comfort in that. They kept my mum well presented, even putting on nail polish, I know she felt really special. If I ever have to go into a home, I hope it's one like this!

I can not recommend Buchanan House highly enough. Mum was admitted just when our society was changing with Covid 19. The staff were extremely welcoming, helpful and sensitive to both Mum and ourselves knowing that we had to quickly settle Mum and then walk away not knowing when we might see her again
face to face. Our family are impressed by and thankful for both the facility and especially the staff and the standard of care given. They provide excellent communication and have been more than helpful in facilitating me being in touch with Mum since I live in Canada.

Alan Twigg

Job Title: Regional Director

Joined: 2021

I joined the Care Home in January of this year, I have worked in Health and Social Care since I qualified as a Nurse in 2010. During this time I have worked in a variety of care homes in several different roles and worked in Regional Roles for the past five years.


I graduated from the University of the West of Scotland in 2010 and have been nursing ever since.


I have a passion for caring for the elderly and have loved working in Care homes my full Nursing Carer. Its a honour and privilege to work in the Social Care Sector.
