My mum has been a resident at Hill View for 2 and a half years and is very happy, settled and secure here. She praises the staff very highly and is satisfied with her room.

Reply from Paul Lawson, Customer Service Manager Ghill at Hill View Care Home

Dear Robert, thank you very much for your review and your kind comments. We are delighted that mum is so happy at Hill View and on behalf of all the staff we are very thankful indeed for her high praise.

Not very good at keeping in touch and keeping us updated on things. Not heard a thing, the last phone call was in February. We still have window visits as there are four of us and we don’t have time to come for a test and wait half an hour for results.

Reply from Paul Lawson, Customer Service Manager at Hill View Care Home

Thank you for your review and we are obviously very disappointed that we have not met your expectations. Unfortunately, as you are not the first point of contact it is difficult for our team to communicate with you, especially as you feel unable to wait for an LFT test result to allow you inside the home. We would really recommend that you reconsider an internal visit as it will give you access to the nurse in charge and the rest of the team who are delivering care inside the home, who would be happy to provide you with any information/updates.

My granny was a resident in Inanda House for six years. She said they looked after her and she was happy there. She liked the food and activities. I could tell it was a very pleasant place and everyone was friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, she passed away this month age 101. I cannot thank the
staff enough for looking after her so well.

Reply from Julia Bentley, COO at Hill View Care Home

Thank you for your kind words Suzanne, I am so sorry you lost your granny recently, it is reassuring to hear such positive comments. Our staff have worked extremely hard, over the last 15 months to deliver excellent care and ensure the residents are at the centre of everything we do. I know my colleagues will welcome your kind comments.

Like many people, my sisters and I were very worried when we were told that our mother had to be admitted to a care home. We hear so many stories about homes being dreadful places. Once our mum was settled in the home we soon realised that those stories were untrue. In-fact we often said Mum had a better
life in the home as she could get out often, something which was impossible in her house because of stairs. Mum also soon realised she was fine in the home and was in general quite happy. I say "was" because sadly mum passed away on May 7th 2020. Her time spent in the home was mostly a happy time.

Hi Raymond. Many thanks for submitting a review. Our sincere condolences go to you and your family for the recent loss of your mother. It is good to hear that her final days were happy ones and that you were pleased with the care delivered by our team. We will pass on your comments to our colleagues who directly cared for your mother who will be delighted to hear your kind words. Thanks again and best wishes to you and the family.

Since my father-in-law took residence here, he has been expertly looked after by wonderful, caring staff. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the staff went over and above to try their utmost to keep all our loved ones safe and well. My father-in-law tested positive for the virus, but fortunately for him,
his symptoms were mild. I’m sure the extra care he was given by all staff helped him through and he is now negative and doing very well. I really cannot praise the staff enough during the pandemic. They let us phone and FaceTime every day should we wish. Wonderful wonderful staff who deserve so much thanks and praise from us.

I can’t thank Uladh House enough for looking after our dad. His main carers are fantastic at keeping us informed and making sure my dad is comfortable. FaceTime calls have been arranged for us all and videos keep us up to date in-between visits. This all makes such a difficult family time that little
bit more bearable.

Reply from Paul Lawson, Customer Relations Manager at Hill View Care Home

Hi Nicola. Thank you so much for your review and we will pass on your comments to the team in Uladh. Great to hear that you have been able to keep in touch with dad during this difficult period and that you have been able to get regular updates on his well being. Thanks again.

Staff and management very friendly, especially activities, she always brings the best out in my mother, very patient and attentive. Gets all residents active and happy. The company should be very proud to have a member of staff that puts the resident needs and capabilities first.

I have been very impressed with Ulda House, where my husband now lives. The staff are caring and loving to all the residents and very patient with those who need more attention.
They are most welcoming to visitors, and if we have any little worries about small health issues, they are dealt with right
away.
It has been a load of my mind, as I didn't want him to come into a care home until the decision was taken out of my hands.
If it was possible to have a physiotherapist to give them little arm and leg exercises, I think they might benefit from that.

My Sister in Law has been in the home for over 4 years. She is well looked after and content. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. Sometimes appear thin on the ground. We are generally happy with her care. Sometimes, her nails need to be cut and cleaned. Staff are happy to do this but need to be prompted.

Current Review Score: 8.5 (8.460)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.5 (8.460) out of 10 for Hill View Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.7 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.793 for Hill View Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (48 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 58 Ratings = 4.793

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.667 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hill View Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 150 registered maximum number of service users is 30. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 30 = 0.167

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Home Manager

"I have been in the care sector for 18 years, both in the NHS and in care homes, and I am a Registered Nurse with an SVQ 4 Management Award.

I've had the great privilege of being at Hill View since October 2020, firstly as a Deputy Manager and then as Home Manager from July 2021.

My goal has always been to make Hill View a home away from home for the residents that live here and we like to make sure that they are involved in everything that we do.

I'm very hands-on and if I'm not in my office you'll probably find me playing dominoes or having a sing-song with the residents."
