My mum joined the care home back in October 2021. During this time she has settled as well as we could expect and has received excellent care and attention from all the staff. Unfortunately, she joined during Covid and so visiting was limited until recently. She is in the Dullatur unit and has really
warmed to one of the senior nurses. This is to the point that she can be a little unsettled when she is not on duty. It is great to now get details of the activities taking place each week and my mum has had the opportunity to go out on trips too which she has really enjoyed. Maybe it would be good to get details of the menus each week as well. Overall she appears to be settled and is getting the care that she needs. It is reassuring that any medical problems are identified quickly so that my mum gets the attention she needs promptly. Both myself and my sister really appreciate all the care she is getting and it gives us the reassurance that we need.

My mum was diagnosed with Covid and has underlying medical conditions including a tracheostomy. The impact of Covid on her was great and it quickly became evident that she required 24 hour care. We began to look into this, which was difficult due to Covid restrictions. However the staff at Carrickstone
were able to provide us with good information and we decided this was the best place for my Mum. She settled very quickly into her new home and is very happy there. The level of care my Mum receives is excellent and very consistent. She speaks highly and fondly of the staff. She has a beautiful bedroom which is always very clean and her clothes are laundered to a high standard. My Mum enjoys her meals. I feel that the staff know my Mum very well and are able to respond to her needs. She receives an excellent level care and we are very thankful. The staff have considered requests we have made with careful consideration helping us ensure both my mum's physical and mental well being.

I have found the care given to my mum extremely good. The staff have welcomed her into their care over the years she has been with them and are quick to notice if something is wrong with her at any time, so prompt attention is given. The meals are good and she has help when required. She always looks
neat and tidy which was a very important part of her life before entering the home.
She is content in her surroundings/room and that to me is a very important part of her care knowing she is happy.
I am notified promptly when a problem occurs and that gives me confidence in knowing she is properly cared for.
Communications with the staff in the unit are very good and they are always friendly, cheery and caring with the residents and the visitors. They have been great throughout the Covid pandemic and when we couldn’t get to see Mum we knew she had the staff with her throughout to look after her and I am very grateful for that. Manager communication much improved lately.

My mum spent nearly three months in the Balloch unit due to delirium. She was very poorly on admission, but she was treated with love, care, compassion and dignity, to the extent she was able to enjoy a lovely festive season in the unit. Her hair was styled and her nails painted, which meant a lot to
her. Daily window visits were cheerfully welcomed by the staff. Mum passed away peacefully in the Balloch unit, and the staff were very supportive and caring. Their dedication is remarkable. Our family can't thank them enough for their wonderful care at a very sad time for our family.

My mum moved from the hospital to Carrickstone at the end of July, this was an extremely hard decision for us to make as we were unable to properly visit the home because of the pandemic. We knew we would not be able to visit for the foreseeable future, however, the staff have been absolutely amazing
and so patient with us and with our mum. She has settled in brilliantly and has already in this very short time, formed some very close bonds with the staff. I am eternally grateful to them for their care and the kindness and compassion shown to our family.

My husband was transferred to Balloch from the hospital. I was, however, unable to visit at that time due to the COVID epidemic and lockdown. During the weeks he was there, he received excellent care, and the staff kept me informed of his progress throughout. Nothing was too much trouble. When it became
obvious he would not be coming home, I was allowed to visit. I could not fault the care and attention my husband received while there nor the concern and kindness shown to me by all staff. Thank you.

My mum was initially in Balloch Ward following discharge from hospital. Unfortunately, it became apparent that she would not return to her own home and was transferred into a permanent room in Dullater. Mum spent over 6 happy years there with excellent care and attention from all staff. From ward staff,
support, cleaners, catering, events and office everyone was so kind, supportive and helpful not just to mum but to the family. The last week or so with mum was very stressful but everyone was so kind, so respectful and so very caring. Mum passed away at the end of April with great dignity. The family cannot thank the home enough. Everyone was just wonderful over the years but especially tender in the last couple of weeks caring for her with much respect and love. Thank you all.

Mum has spent time at Carrickstone twice in 5 months. Staff are extremely caring and understanding. They listen to the resident's needs, meeting them to a high standard. Mum felt safe and reassured, giving us, the family, peace of mind which is utmost important. Staff are friendly (wearing name badges),
caring and do their job with patience and understanding. Rooms are very clean and tidy. Absolutely would recommend for loved ones.

Mum was admitted to the hospital wing directly from the hospital. It was our intention that she would return home as she was adamant that she would not be admitted to a care home. Shortly after admission, she asked if we could get her a room permanently as she was enjoying the lifestyle, e.g. coffee
mornings and activities.
We were fortunate to secure a room in Dullater where she was welcomed by cheerful staff and a lovely room. Unfortunately, her time in Carrickstone was short but our family will always be grateful for the care and friendship she received. She said she had never been happier.
I particularly want to thank the staff who cared for me and my brother as we spent the last few nights with Mum.
I will never forget the warmth and kindness bestowed on us.

I cannot fault the care my wife received during her time at the care home. The staff always carried out their duties with kindness and compassion. They provided good support to myself and my daughters. We were always updated regarding any changes to my wife's care and kept fully informed at all times.

My mum and dad were both residents at Carrickstone Care Home, Cumbernauld. The staff were excellent and very caring both to my parents and to the rest of the family.

The care and support is second to none. My nana is deaf and almost blind so activities are not always an option for her, but at no time has she ever been left out or made to feel isolated. In fact, quite the opposite, one of the entertainment team has organised to take my nana shopping on several occasions,
which she loves doing to the local town centre, which is a very special thing to do.
I can't praise the staff enough from the cleaners, the place is spotless! to the manager who has turned the home around for the good since she has come into it.

I cannot thank the staff in the care home enough for everything they have done for my mother and our family. They are all true angels. You never hear the good work that these staff do only the bad which is not a true reflection on the care that is given to the residents in the Carrickstone Care Home.
From the Manager to the kitchen staff everyone is caring, hardworking and wants to make a difference, they deserve an award.

Current Review Score: 8.2 (8.232)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.2 (8.232) out of 10 for Carrickstone House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.794 for Carrickstone House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (27 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 34 Ratings = 4.794

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.438 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Carrickstone House Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 16 = 0.188

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
