Relating to Saturday 8th September: Afternoon Prom (to coincide with Last Night at the Proms). This also was my parents' 65th wedding anniversary. My father and mother (who isn't a resident) thoroughly enjoyed the music and Dad was joining in and singing along with it. They thoroughly appreciated the
anniversary cake that was made for them to share with the residents.

9 months ago our family had to make the difficult decision of Dad having to go in to care.

After a very short time, that worry was taken from us. As Dad is so well looked after in Hallhouse we could not ask for anything better. First class care!

We are visiting from New Zealand for two weeks and are impressed with the care and relationship between the staff and residents of the home. We have felt welcome and at ease to visit any time of the day during our stay.
We are unable to be sure of how often the activities person is there? (I.e once
weekly or more). However, we enjoyed sitting in on the session this morning! It was good being able to assist our relative to take an active part. Our only disappointment was finding one day when he had run out of razors and needed shaving, although money is held for this purpose.
Thank you sincerely for the care you take of our loved one and your welcome to ourselves. Thank you so much to the activity lady - she does an amazing job.

Reply from Rebekah Saint, Marketing Executive at Hallhouse Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to review Hallhouse, I hoped you enjoyed your visit. The team will be thrilled to hear that you are impressed with the care they provide. We can only apologise for the oversight with the razors, your comments have been passed on to the home manager who is now reminding all team members to replenish toiletries when they are running low. The home has now rectified this and are grateful that it was brought to their attention. We look forward to your next visit.

My grandfather has been a resident at Hallhouse Care Home for the last 8 weeks. I and the rest of the family have visited regularly. Staff are always welcoming and show kindness and compassion towards all of the residents. There are regular activities for all of the residents. Most recently another
resident’s family member played the accordion for an afternoon - it was lovely!

Both my parents were resident in Hallhouse, my mother for 6 months, my father for only a few days before moving back to the hospital. The family were very happy with the care my parents received. I felt that I was getting good feedback from the staff on how my parents, especially my mother, were doing.
My mother gradually failed over the months she was there but the staff were extremely kind and professional in their care of her. As a family, we felt we were made welcome when we visited (we live locally, so that was almost daily!) and encouraged to join in with the various activities. My mother passed away very suddenly and we cannot fault the care she received from the nurses, who kept us informed and who cared for her when we were unable to reach Hallhouse in time. The care of the staff for us as a family was also outstanding, and we regarded them as friends.

My dad and I were invited to join mum for a Burns supper. When we arrived we were seated at a table that was decorated with Tartan runners, napkins, a copy of the grace and a songbook. All the residents were given a little drink to toast the Haggis. Our meal was beautiful and we enjoyed being able to
have dinner with mum.

My parents have been in Hallhouse for 18 months now. The activities and social outings organised are excellent and there is always something to look forward to.

I would say Hallhouse would definitely benefit from a second sitting room in the main building. At times there are a lot of visitors which

makes the sitting room congested. Overall I am very happy with the care my parents are receiving.

Hallhouse has recently held a Christmas fair - an excellent example of good practice, bringing together residents, relatives, staff and the community of Fenwick. Well done to all the staff involved.

The Lodge is a lovely building with great communal rooms. The bedroom I have seen is ok, not too big and with tired decoration (which surprises me given the cost to residents). I've heard nothing negative about the quality of meals. Staff have been proactive, when necessary, and identify/address my
relative's needs.

Mum has now been in Hallhouse for almost 4 years. It has become a second home and although there have been a lot of staff changes, there are still some there from when Mum first arrived. The family and I feel that Hallhouse is a safe place for Mum and the only thing she complains about is not getting
a decent cup of tea.

my mum has been in Hallhouse Care Home for 6 months, staff are kind, helpful and always on hand.
initially, my mum spent most of her day in the lounge where there is always lots going on but recently has been spending more time in her room.
my mum complains about the food but I can't comment on this.
overall
we are confident that our mum receives a good standard of care and is well looked after.

Staff are very attentive and do the best they can. I have found them pleasant and courteous. The rooms are large, pleasant, and with en-suite bathrooms, and can be personalised to suit the needs of the resident. The technical support man is also not averse to trying to solve difficult problems. The
only shortfall is that the TV aerial system fitted is not powerful enough to deal with the relatively weak TV signal that reaches the site at normal roof height. There are trees which get in the way and those need to be overtopped by the aerial system to ensure that the signal which doesn't come from too far away is allowed to reach the TVs. Hi The tech guy is trying to resolve the signal problem in my mum's room. We will have to wait and see what success he has.

We called the house to inquire about respite care for my 85yr old mother in law. The call was answered in a polite and professional manner and I was directed to the administrator, she was very helpful and we arranged a visit to look over the house and its facilities. The pre-placement visit went very
well and all of our many queries were answered to our satisfaction (not easy as both my wife and I work for social services!). The staff were all very nice, polite, professional but also grounded and down to earth. We noticed the attention to detail they each included in their interactions with the residents there - who all seemed to really enjoy staying there.

In conclusion - my mother in law stated that should she require anywhere 'permanent' we should seek a place here in the first instance! She loved her time here and we would thoroughly recommend giving the team here a call if you or a family member require respite or nursing care.

A pleasure to deal with . . . thanks.

My mum has been in Hallhouse for almost 2 years. It is a wonderful place with caring staff, many smiles, wonderful food, activities etc. Today was my mum's 90th birthday and the activities coordinator arranged a fantastic party. Even though my mum is declining, she had a huge smile and as so grateful.
Thanks to Hallhouse for the special occasions but most importantly for the everyday things. Mum is so wanted and cared for.

Hillhouse Care Home was an excellent choice for two weeks respite for Mum after coming out of the hospital. The staff and nursing staff were always on hand to attend to Mum and answer any questions we had. The food was excellent and cleanliness first class. The surroundings are lovely. We as a family
could find no fault in any areas and will use Hallhouse Care home in the future if necessary. Every one of the staff is friendly, smiling and helpful.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.504)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.504) out of 10 for Hallhouse Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.853 for Hallhouse Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (81 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.853

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.651 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hallhouse Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.4 = 0.851

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
