My dear mum was a resident from November 2015 until August 2018 when she sadly passed away. Her admission was due to her rapidly progressive vascular dementia which meant she became at significant risk had she remained in her own home. Our family will always be grateful for the loving care given and
the compassion shown by the staff to mum. They kept her safe and had to tolerate some challenging behaviours she was unaware she was demonstrating. Huge thanks to all staff.

Reply from Eileen Welch, Home Manager at Springhill Nursing Home

Dear M B, Your review is very much appreciated. The staff who cared for your mother are filled with sadness at her passing but also with fond memories of her time with us and we were honoured to say our farewells at her funeral. We wish you all the best in the future.

The home is not only magnificent the staff and care provided, in my opinion, cannot be improved. I am totally happy, content with the care and attention for my husband. Thank you.

This place is not suitable for dementia sufferers who are mobile and in the case of my mother, no action plan to deal with the progression of dementia, who became slightly aggressive and has since been moved to another care home. I think the ongoing plan is for the poor dementia people to sit and do
nothing but wither the days away waiting to die.

Reply from Helen Kinnaird, Regional Operations Manager at Springhill Nursing Home

Many thanks for taking the time to submit your review. I am aware that you have had discussion with the home around the Best Interests of your mother's care. Should you feel it beneficial to further discuss the decisions made, I would make myself available to meet up with you.
I Thank you again for your review and will pass your comments onto the Team at Springhill.

My mother's care is essentially very good. There is an ongoing issue with another resident persistently entering my mother's room and removing personal items. This is not being managed appropriately. Aside from this issue, I am happy with the overall care in the nursing home.

Reply from Colin Inglis, COO at Springhill Nursing Home

Thank you for taking the time to complete your review. I am aware that Eileen the Home Manager is looking at options to improve the privacy of your mother's room and is going to discuss this with you further. My Mum has settled extremely well into the nursing home, even though she has Alzheimer's. The staff are very caring and understand her needs very well, she has put on weight and her mobility has also improved due to the excellent care she is receiving. Can't thank them enough.

I have just returned home after visiting my Mum, she was admitted in mid-February. As I live down south and don't get to see my Mum regularly, I have come home extremely happy knowing she is having excellent care. The staff are caring, understanding and attentive to all her needs and to all the other
residents. The newly redecorated sitting room on her floor is lovely. Many thanks once again to you all.

My mum has been a resident for over five years. Her health has declined during this time. All the staff have been very caring and professional in providing her with a safe and happy place to live. The staff have thoroughly done their best to help my mum with all her needs.

Wife in an advanced state of dementia and is bed bound. Treated respectfully by staff and is comfortable and spotlessly clean.

First impression of Springhill was overall a feeling of a very comfortable happy home. Staff were very helpful and informative. Mum is very settled here and her mental health has greatly improved as she has plenty of stimulation by staff and has made friends with other residents. Myself and family are
extremely pleased with her care here. Best wishes to all and continued success. Thank you.

My wife has been a resident for 5 years and I am still happy to have her cared for in Springhill. The previous owners did not have my confidence but the care staff and others have always compensated for short comings.

This present transitional period is being managed well with minimum disruptions

and with evidence of improvement to come. If all care staff could be brought to the standard of the best in the home then the overall standard would be enhanced greatly.
I have no reason to consider an alternative care setting.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.018)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.018) out of 10 for Springhill Nursing Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.380 for Springhill Nursing Home is calculated as follows: ( (74 Excellents x 5) + (35 Goods x 4) + (16 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 129 Ratings = 4.38

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.638 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Springhill Nursing Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 61 registered maximum number of service users is 12.2. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 12.2 = 0.738

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
