My dad has been living at Claremont for over a year now and we are so grateful for the care and support he receives. The staff show genuine kindness and compassion to him and bring humour into his support which is so important to him. We are always made to feel welcome when we visit and the management
team.

I have nothing but praise for this care home. The overall experience is first class. With special mention to one staff member in particular, she is absolutely a gem whatever you pay her it is not enough, she treats my old man with respect and dignity.

So far our experience with Claremont has been excellent. The only feedback for improvement would be the nurse and staff alarms are very loud in communal areas and the laundry does get a little mixed up despite name tags. Other than this, the staff have been amazing, very caring and genuine. We have
peace of mind our mother is safe and surrounded by people who care about her.

Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Claremont Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review and for your open and honest feedback, We are sorry that the nurse call system is loud however, this is an important system that alerts staff when residents require assistance or in an emergency. Unfortunately, the design of the system does not allow for it to be turned down in certain areas. Staff try their best to answer these promptly and both the Home Manager and Deputy Manager monitor this during walk rounds. We are sorry to hear that you have had issues with our laundry service, we do have a system in place which is supported by our keyworker process. We currently have a focus on the keyworker process and are hopeful that the outcome of this will contribute to a better laundry service. Once again, thank you for taking the time to give us feedback to help us improve.

My mum has been a resident for one week for respite care. I can't thank the staff enough for such a warm welcome and for making Mum feel instantly at home. Their caring professional attitude has meant Mum has spent a very happy week here and given me the reassurance that she has been extremely well
looked after. Every visit has been a very positive experience, making me feel at home too. All the staff are warm and incredibly kind and just delightful with Mum. I would also like to thank the nursing staff for their careful attention to all of Mum's medical needs. My thanks to everyone.

My mother was in Claremont Care Home for nearly 4 and a half years until her death in January 2023. I was always very impressed with every aspect of Claremont. The quality of care she received was exceptional, I really cannot imagine her getting a better level of care. I always visited unannounced and
my mother was always clean, her hair nicely brushed and her clothes neat and tidy. During one or two periods when she was unwell, I felt I was being as well looked after as my mother was. I never had a moment's concern about anything, and being in Claremont removed a great deal of the stress I had been under while she lived in her own home. I can't recommend Claremont highly enough.

My father has settled in well. The staff at the Arran unit have been very good at working with him to help him walk more. He can be challenging at times but the staff have a lovely way of dealing with him. A particular member of staff manages her unit well. All the staff are nice and courteous to my
father and me.

Avoid.
Firstly let me note that the home does have some excellent staff who do genuinely care for the residents.
However, they make extensive use of agency staff and seem unwilling or unable to provide the correct direction for them. For approximately 4 of the last 5 months (as of Mar 22) they have
been in 'outbreak' situations meaning that only essential visits are allowed. In our case, grandchildren have not been seen since August. Residents are unable to leave the premises during these outbreaks either.
Whilst every care home has of course experienced Covid outbreaks, the Claremont is clearly in a category of their own and management does not appear to care. At no point during any of the outbreaks has a member of management bothered to speak to family members or even sent out an email. Only Admin staff are on the frontline.
My second complaint is regarding washing, or more particularly that they seem unable to match washed clothes with the correct resident. Clothes just go missing and the other residents' clothes just appear in the wrong rooms on a frequent and regular basis, even though in our case, everything was labelled. Whilst top and bottoms might be acceptable (often residents don't remember themselves whether they own something or not), underwear sadly also goes awry. Whilst in our case, pads were worn, I can imagine for other residents it is less appealing...
In summary, if you want to ensure that other family members can visit your loved one and that they are in a home where the management actually care about the residents, I'd strongly suggest looking elsewhere.
It might cost a little bit more, but it is definitely worth it.

Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Claremont Care Home

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about Claremont Care Home. All feedback is valuable and allows us to review the process to ensure we provide the highest standards of care. Due to the ongoing pandemic social care is facing a staffing crisis and unfortunately at times we have had to use agency staff in the home. We have however, block booked staff so that we have regular agency staff who know our home and our residents to provide continuity of care and support. Our staff continue to follow Government guidance in relation to Covid-19 and unfortunately, we are seeing Covid cases on the rise, which has an impact on the care home sector. The Home Manager is in contact with Public Health daily and the decision to close the home during outbreak is ultimately theirs. Following updates from Public Health the Home Manager updates relatives via email, so you have the most up to date information on the home at any given time. I am sorry that you have had issues with our laundry service and had this been brought to my attention it would have been rectified straight away. We do have a laundry system in place that normally works well, but I will review this again with the residents and family within the home.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.876)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.876) out of 10 for Claremont Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.738 for Claremont Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (62 Excellents x 5) + (22 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.738

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.138 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Claremont Care Home is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 16 = 0.438

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
