At Glenfairn House residents not only live in beautiful surroundings, they enjoy the care of a truly dedicated team, who provide residential, dementia, nursing, palliative, mental health care and respite care.

The team follows Sanctuary’s vision of Enriching Lives, based on the six senses people need to feel truly happy and fulfilled – a sense of achievement, belonging, continuity, security, significance and purpose.

They champion residents to be as independent as they can, and to have an active role to play in how their home is run. Like Resident Ambassador Marie, who loves getting involved in everything from welcoming new residents to Glenfairn, to providing feedback on the menu and the activities on offer.

And talking of activities, following Marie’s feedback, the team regularly takes residents to a beautiful local hotel for tea and cake. Marie has even introduced a new arts and crafts group, with more planned.

Mealtimes are a real highlight of the day, with freshly cooked meals from their chef served daily, as well as home-baked cakes and treats for afternoon tea.

The Edwardian home is magnificent with period features, and many rooms with sea views across to the Isle of Arran, and others overlooking the spectacular gardens. With a summer house and wheelchair friendly pathways, they are a beautiful spot to relax with loved ones, who are welcome to visit any time.

The team embrace the local community into the home, run by not-for-profit Sanctuary Care, helping their residents to truly feel part of life outside Glenfairn. As well as regular trips in the minibus, they love to welcome musicians and youngsters from local schools and colleges.

With a team dedicated to activities, there’s so much to do at Glenfairn House. From pamper sessions in the salon and animal visits, to music, garden games and barbecues.

I must start by saying that I have not visited Glenfairn because I live 400 miles away and it is too far for a 30 minute or 1-hour visit. I will visit when restrictions are eased. However, I talk to my mum by facetime every week and after a year or so, she seems to be well settled. Also my nice visits
every week and reports that the home is excellent and doing their very best for mum.

My Dad moved into Glenfairn in Sept 2020, following a fall at home. He suffers from vascular dementia, and this was the fall was the catalyst to move him into the home. The home has cared for Dad amazingly well and he is thriving now on the care and the company of other residents. The team at Glenfairn
has done an amazing job through the height of the COVID crisis. I would highly recommend this care home.

My aunt was a resident for 4 years and my mother-in-law has been a resident for 7 years. We have found the staff caring, patient and helpful throughout their time in Glenfairn House. Until Covid, we visited several times a week and became very familiar with the home, its staff and many of the residents.
It is a welcoming environment and we have always been kept well informed by nurses, carers, management and admin.

We have had no issues until recently! My mother-in-law has fallen out her chair several times, and once the doctor on call came out because of this. We were told that a suitable chair has been ordered for her and yet received another call saying she has come out of the new chair (which clearly wasn't
suited to her). I told a member of staff in a phone call that we would be willing to buy a chair for her and was told there was no need as the home would provide one. We have had no issues other than this.

In these trying times with serious concerns over the spread of the 'virus' especially for friends and family in care homes can I say that my experience of several garden visits has been excellent. The facility was weather protected and staff made sure I was as well.
Well done to all at Glenfairn House

My wife was admitted to Glenfairn House in November 2015 as it was not safe or possible for me to continue, after some 10 years, to care for her with a progressing Alzheimer's condition. Personal care and incontinence will defeat the carer. Glenfairn House has been excellent for us both. They have handled
this virus very well, with little help from outside services.

My Dad has been a resident here since March 2017. We have been very happy with his care and the consistency of that care. He settled quickly and enjoys the company and interaction with staff and other residents. His room is spotless and the corridors, lounges and public areas are kept to a high standard.
We, as a family have received a high level of support from the staff over the past year +. I cannot recommend Glenfairn House highly enough.

Probably the best care home in Ayr and extremely pleased with the care of my father until his death. They always kept you informed of any problems and discussed any changes with his care. Relatives was also kept informed of anything going on in the home and encouraged to participate. They organised
trips for residents along with bringing entertainment in ranging from musicians to a theatre company in to perform a pantomime. The gardens are kept immaculate and are secure.

Glenfairn House provided wonderful care for my mum during her final days. Her stay was brief (3 months) but as she declined in health she received excellent nursing care and was well taken care of in all regards. From the owners through management/administration to the nurses and carers both she and
us as her family were treated with kindness, openness and respect. There is a very nice culture at the home based on our experience and it meant a lot to us to leave someone we loved very much with people we felt we could trust. They showed patience and gentleness in all their dealings with my mum. In addition, her room was very nice indeed; bright and sunny and the grounds of the home are also simply beautiful. I would have no hesitation in recommending Glenfairn as a care facility to consider for someone you love.

John, it was a pleasure getting to know mum, yourself and your family. I feel we went on a journey together and learned from each other. Thank you for your kind words and I will pass your message on to the staff who deserve to hear your very positive comments! I wish you and your family well for the future and you know you are welcome at Glenfairn anytime if you happen to be passing! Kindest regards.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.685)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.685) out of 10 for Glenfairn House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.800 for Glenfairn House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (50 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 60 Ratings = 4.8

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.885 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Glenfairn House Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 65 registered maximum number of service users is 13. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 13 = 0.385

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
