Moyness Nursing Home is situated in a secluded area of Broughty Ferry.

Broughty Ferry is a regional holiday destination and is a pleasant waterfront suburb of Dundee, the centre of which is about two miles away. The home stands in its own substantial grounds in a residential area it is conveniently close to local services and the local community. Moyness is an attractive property, originally constructed in 1876, now benefiting from a modern extension added around fifteen years ago.

After operating independently for 20 years, Moyness Care Home became part of the Group in 2007. The facilities have been expertly updated in order to provide residents with a spacious, relaxing and comfortable environment in which they feel safe, secure and most importantly, at home.

The care home aptly reflects its surroundings with extensive and well-kept landscaped lawns and a walled garden which features a summer house where residents can relax.

Experienced and well trained staff provide nursing care to a maximum of 33 residents. Accommodation is offered in mainly single rooms, all of which are with en-suite facilities - there are three double rooms available.

My mum has lived here for 2/3 years. She took a little time to settle, which is normal, I suppose. But now she seems content and spends most of her days in the social areas.

She loves the food and has a really friendly relationship with most of the staff and some of the residents. She likes the old

movies, quizzes and sing-alongs.

Overall, since refurbishment, it is a really smart, welcoming care home.

More outings needed a mini bus would be the answer for local picnic etc. (Shared at Dundee Homes). But in all Moyness is a very good home e.g Food is very good. Care is good. Now started activities which was badly needed! All in all outings are the main concern. Flowers in every room would be great!!

My wife was admitted to the care Home in April 2013 after five years of being cared for at home without no outside help whatsoever. She suffers from Lewy Bodies Disease, a form of dementia, and eventually, I could no longer cope with the physical and mental stress of 24/7 caring and eventually accepted
that there was no alternative to long-term care in a nursing home. With hindsight, it was the best decision in both our interests, albeit the most difficult decision of my life. After a few weeks apprehension, worrying how she was affected and how she was being treated, I was completely reassured that all was well and I now have every confidence in the nursing and caring staff. I am updated on every aspect of her care, however minor and on changes in her overall situation. Most of the staff are very good, the others are excellent. All are extremely competent and professional, yet very friendly and approachable.
I visit on a daily basis, with no time restrictions, other than meal times and on occasion I am invited to stay for a meal. Overall, I can only express complete satisfaction and would certainly commend this particular care home to anyone finding themselves in a similar situation to mine.

Current Review Score: 8.7 (8.667)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.7 (8.667) out of 10 for Moyness Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.917 for Moyness Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (33 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 4.917

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Moyness Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 6 = 0.5

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
