Movilla House Nursing Home is purpose-built and is situated in woodland gardens and lawns in the town of Newtownards, Co. Down.

Movilla House has a friendly atmosphere providing specialised nursing care for elderly and has an enviable reputation for high quality care. Staff are trained to the highest standards and chosen for their warm, friendly and caring attitude.

The philosophy is to provide residents with a clean, secure and relaxed atmosphere where each individual will consider Movilla House their home. They promote the core values of privacy, dignity, freedom of choice, independence and fulfilment.

I came to Movilla House in November last year after I had 2 strokes, and I have found everything really good. Care, nursing and caring staff are very good, kind, helpful and very loving. The home is very clean, well cleaned each day. Food is so good choice of 3 dinners and if it's not what anyone likes,
we can have sandwiches or something different. The chef is so good and kind too. I enjoy different activities there is quite a good variety of things to do. In the morning we get a little bowl of fruit with morning tea or coffee.

When my mum moved into Movilla House, the activity coordinators have gone the extra mile to keep us in contact with her via Skype calls. I cannot thank them enough as we are too distant for regular visits. They enable us to see Mum, and her us, and share photos of her extended family.

From the moment she arrived at Movilla House after a fall in January, Mum has been so well looked after. She has gained ground lost after the fall and is so well cared for. Early on we were asked by staff what they could do to provide the best service for her and they have followed up on our suggestions.
The staff go out of their way to allow us regular contact with her via Skype as we live far away. She gets so much from this and the sharing online of photos of family and home that she no longer sees face to face. Communication is very good between us and the home, nothing seems to be too much trouble. There appear to be plenty of activities and Mum herself expresses how well cared-for she is. So glad Mum is well looked after and happily settled here.

I cannot praise Movilla House highly enough. The home is spotlessly clean and all needs catered for. Now, what can I say about the staff? They are totally amazing, nothing is too much trouble and they treat all residents with care and respect. I have told my husband if the day comes that I have to go
into care this is where he definitely has to put me.

My lovely nanny has been a resident of Movilla House care home for several months now. She has not been herself in quite some time and in and out of hospital. Now that she has settled into Movilla House she is so much happier. The staff are so sweet and caring with her and she really has got a new spring
in her step. She loves all the entertainment and activities that go on in the home and it has really brought her out of her shell again. Our family are so happy to see her like this and to know she is getting looked after so well. We are delighted we got a place for her in Movilla House and hope she can enjoy it for a long time. Thank you to all the staff for making our wee nanny feel so loved and so at home.

My elderly parents have just recently moved to Movilla House. A decision which we as a family found very hard. We have found Movilla House to be a home from home. The staff have been very caring and professional. Their every need is catered for and the staff have been very kind and compassionate. The
daily activities and interaction with other residents and staff have been invaluable for their mental health, and Mum enjoys her pamper sessions each week visiting the hairdresser and having her nails done. Thank you Movilla House for taking the strain off our family and the reassurance that they are in good hands.

My mum has been a resident at Movilla House for over 3 years. I cannot speak highly enough about the care provided and the staff at Movilla House. Every member of staff regardless of their position goes out of their way to create a warm, friendly and caring environment within the home. All staff do
whatever they can for Mum and nothing is ever too much for them. They always have time for a chat with either Mum or me. Movilla House is truly a home away from home. Since moving into Movilla House my mum's condition has slowed down and this has been credited by her consultant to the caring and supportive environment within the home. My mother has been a resident for over 3 and a half years and during this time has received excellent care on a daily basis from a very dedicated workforce for whom nothing is too much trouble. They have coped with the covid pandemic admirably and continue even today working in sometimes trying circumstances
wearing PPE. When visiting was not permitted contact with my mother was maintained through the use of video calls and special thanks are due to the activities staff who facilitated this. Movilla House is home to my mother and she is treated with love and respect all the time. The standard of hygiene and cleanliness in the home is very high, the food is nutritious and the choice of menus is varied. Staff are friendly and very approachable. I would have no hesitation in recommending Movilla House to anyone looking for care for their loved ones.

My father has been very professionally cared for. He recently had covid and was able to stay at the home with oxygen and antibiotics. Immediate next of kin (my brother and I) have had good visiting access. We have been happy with the precautions to avoid bringing covid into the home. His personal care
is good and clothes clean. The staff of all grades are friendly and interact with him very well.

My mum has been in Movilla House since 26th August 2019 and throughout that period until now the care has been tremendous indeed. Management and staff are truly professional in all aspects of care for my mum from morning to night and all night. Right from the beginning of the pandemic their professionalism
has been amazing and has kept morale in the home extremely good. The natural ability and keen interest in my Mum’s care in all categories is excellent. Having the Skype calls and currently, the visits in the bubble are invaluable for sure.

I've selected that my review relates to December but in fact, it's about the whole of last year. My experience is that the Movilla House staff and management have excelled under very trying, exhausting, frustrating, upsetting and extraordinary circumstances. My mother-in-law has continued to receive
care and attention to their highest standard. Despite lockdown, their lines of communication have remained excellent and always open. It's been fantastic to see so many residents taking part in the activities that have continued throughout. The provision of Skype calls has been a fabulous way of keeping in touch. Hats off to everyone at Movilla House, management, staff and residents.

My aunt came here in January 2020 for a few weeks. After being here it was noted that she would be unable to return to her own house. From the minute she arrived here she was very happy and she decided that she would like to stay.
The home is very clean and the staff are 1st class. They made her feel
as if it was her own home.
She celebrated her 90th birthday here during lockdown but they done everything they could to make her day special. Nothing is any trouble for the staff. They have kept the residents entertained, happy and well-fed. They have also kept the family informed of everything that is happening.
All the staff are excellent from the cleaners who do a great job to maintenance keeping the place in great order. The care assistants and nurses that have kept residents safe and entertained. To the sisters and home manager for letting us speak to my aunt on several occasions.
You all should be proud of what you do. On behalf of the rest of our family a great big THANK YOU!

My elderly grandfather was admitted for palliative care. He only lived one week following his admission. Every single member of staff treated him like he was one of their own, showing care and willingness to hi, and my family in particular to my grandmother who was admitted a few days prior. The support

We were just introduced to Movilla House almost two years ago when my sister suffered a massive stroke and became a resident there. From the very beginning, the staff were extra warm and welcoming and we just knew this was the right place for her to be. I can honestly say that every member of staff
from nurses, carers, domestic and kitchen staff are extremely dedicated and genuinely care about the residents and work hard to make them feel at home. Movilla House has a lovely family atmosphere and the staff just make us all feel like we are part of that family. Nothing is ever too much to ask for and they all deserve the highest of praise.

Since mum moved into Movilla Nursing home last March she has been very well looked after. The staff are very courteous nothings too much as they are an immense help to mum. The activities are very good and despite mum's very bad eyesight she's encouraged to get involved in loads of activities like art
and craft making, armchair bowls etc. She is very settled and comfortable in her lovely room. The food is excellent and she enjoys a bowl of fruit in the mornings. I would highly recommend the nursing home. Mum has made it her home and she has got a new life for the better with new friends too. Our family is content in the knowledge that she's happy and safe which is very important to us.

Michaela started her career as a Nursing Auxiliary on an acute adult ward and it was there that she decided she wanted to pursue a career in nursing.


Whilst studying for her Diploma in Nursing Studies she worked as a part time Community Care Worker providing home care to disabled and elderly people.


When she completed her Diploma in Nursing Studies at Queen’s University of Belfast, in 2000, she joined the South Eastern Trust and worked in care of the elderly for 16 years.


Michaela joined Movilla House Nursing Home as a Sister in 2016. She has been an integral part of the management team at Movilla House for 5 years. As Sister she has ensured a stimulating and caring environment is maintained at all times.
