Field Lodge is a purpose-built care home on the outskirts of St Ives in Cambridgeshire. The home offers a range of high-quality services from residential and nursing care, to respite and specialist dementia care.

Field Lodge boasts a range of amenities for residents to enjoy, no matter their likes and interests. From a tuck shop and contemporary café to an in-house cinema and hair salon and nail bar, there is always something on offer.

Each bedroom has been designed and decorated to offer ultimate comfort, they are spacious and complete with a widescreen TV and en-suite bathroom. Residents can also enjoy weekly activities in the lively home atmosphere.

At Field Lodge, there is a person-centred approach to care. The team takes time to get to know each resident before they move in to deliver individual care and lifestyle plans to suit their unique needs.

Field Lodge Care Home in st Ives has a friendly welcoming atmosphere. It stood out from other care homes as the place where Mum would feel most at home. The care team are kind and thoughtful and help to put mum at her ease. The covid pandemic brought lots of challenges but the protection measures were
second to none. Management team have been quick to address any day-to-day concerns. Overall, Mum is very happy there.

My husband only moved into Field Lodge eight months ago. The care he has received has been exemplary from the time he entered the home until he passed away. He has been treated with kindness, respect and dignity right to the end. I cannot thank the management and care staff enough.

Field Lodge is a friendly and caring environment with excellent staff and facilities. My father has been a resident for nearly three years. He has recently returned from a brief spell in hospital and was desperate to get back "home" as he now called Field Lodge. The staff have been magnificent with
his new and increased needs, all of which has been delivered despite the strain put on everybody by the Covid situation. That said, our experience with both the care and management team has always been good. The default is to help and support whenever they can, but more importantly, he is happy.

The staff are wonderful - extremely kind and caring. The home is clean, bright and has many facilities. Staff have been excellent in taking both mum and me through the process and settling in mum. Nothing has been too much trouble.

My husband was transferred to Field lodge in April, when he arrived he was unable to walk and talk very little as he had lost an extreme amount of weight due to infection. Since the move to Field Lodge, he is back up walking unaided and has found his voice along with his smile.
I can’t thank the staff
at Field Lodge enough for the care they have given my husband, to see him smiling and happy is the biggest gift they have given him and peace of mind for me.
Amazing place.
The staff and nursing team are just too good for words.

I have been extremely impressed with the way the managers and staff have handled the whole covid episode from March 2020. Unfortunately despite their very best efforts covid entered the home in February 202. However, strict guidelines and surveillance combined with regular testing are having positive
effects.

Efficiently run home with extremely good caring staff. The home is clean, does not smell and is always welcoming. Catering is well done and offers a nice variety of menus to suit everybody. Health care is good with professional medical people visiting when required. Entertainment and activities is well
organised and enjoyed by many. The hairdresser does a good job sometimes under difficult circumstances. During the current Covid scenario the home has been very well managed and strict rules and governance have been strictly enforced to protect the residents and staff. Well done on taking this stance. Communication and keeping relatives informed and updated is excellent. Reassuring to know that our relatives are safe and well looked after.

Mum is being cared for by such kind, caring, understanding and dedicated staff during these uncertain times of the pandemic. The last twelve months have been a challenging time for all of us, residents, staff and families. I can only say Field Lodge, its management and staff, have my great admiration for the wonderful work they have done to keep residents safe and well. We have all gone through a learning process in how to
deal with the effects of the pandemic, but the knowledge that my husband was in the same caring hands that I had placed him has helped me. At all times the manager has been on hand to discuss any problems and their solution, the staff have kept in touch with updates, and the Facebook content showing daily activities has cheered family and friends all over the world. The efforts to keep residents engaged and supported in their interests have been extraordinary, especially given that so few can do things together now. My husband's daily access to the garden to exercise has been crucial and he has continued to enjoy artwork, quizzes and some cinema. He uses the cafe daily to socialise.

Our Mum has been a resident at Field Lodge since Autumn 2017 and we have always been confident that the home is safe and very clean and has a very nice atmosphere. There is a programme of daily activities that cater for all residents and the staff always have a smile on their faces and are kind and
caring even in situations with residents with Dementia. During the Covid 19 situation and where visits have been allowed, the home has put many additional safeguards in place and we have felt safe when visiting mum. All of the staff work exceptionally hard but still manage to imbibe a sense of cheerfulness and warm welcome under what can only be immense pressure and anxiety for them in terms of both residents and their own well being. We can't thank the team enough and they all deserve recognition for the excellent work they do with our loved ones.

My father had a few respites stays with Field Lodge before we decided he should stay permanently, due to living on his own with dementia and needing more and more support. The first words he said when asked if he would like to stay was "I feel safe here". Staff have helped dad with a difficult journey
of adaptation to coping with his dementia, giving him support and reassurance when he needs it and helping him feel he still has independence. Covid-19 has made this past year extremely difficult for residents, families and staff at Field Lodge alike. I can honestly say I am SO grateful that dad is living in this amazing care home. I cannot have asked for more in terms of the care and support they give dad (and to me!) There's not one member of staff I've met I could not sing praises for, they know my dad so well and are SO kind and caring. They keep dad going with their positive happy attitudes, especially this past year. I can't thank them all enough for the wonderful job they do.

My mum has been a resident in Field Lodge for the last 4 and three quarter years. The care staff are amazing and always go the extra mile and beyond. They are an amazing team with an excellent management team. Everyone cares and helps. Throughout the pandemic they really stepped up even more. Keeping
us in touch with Mum and Mum with us, keeping Mum entertained and happy all within the guidance of Covid restrictions. Entertainers who would normally visit have entertained on Zoom but personally to each individual resident. When the hairdresser is not allowed, then members of the team stepped up and washed, styled and in some cases trimmed hair. We had relatives meetings on Zoom and were kept constantly updated on everything. We even had quiz’s on Zoom with relatives playing against a socially distanced group of residents. I cannot praise their care and dedication highly enough. They also kept the virus out of the home. Just amazing. Having Mum cared for took a huge worry away for me during pandemic.

Field Lodge has been absolutely first class in the care of my mother. The staff are so dedicated, efficient, but above all, they are so kind and caring. The home is very clean, comfortable and attractive. A proper home. My mother is very happy and settled. The family feel very thankful to have Mother

After being able to live independently with vascular dementia for several years my father had a fall and after a short spell in hospital he moved into Field Lodge for his safety. Having visited Field Lodge on an open day, before any residents arrived, and subsequently to visit friends who were living
here we knew he would be well looked after in lovely surroundings. Every member of staff has been kind, caring and compassionate to dad and have treated him with dignity. Having no short term memory it has been confusing for him but all staff have helped him and been very patient with him. He especially enjoys the meals, exercise classes and the cakes and coffee in the cafe and, despite the weather and time of year, walks in the garden. Any problems (as expected when getting to know to a new resident) have been addressed quickly and resolved. Any queries I have had have been answered efficiently and I have been kept informed of any health issues that have developed.

Linda Martinez

Joined: 2004

As a Home Manager, I am constantly striving to make the home a better place. At Field Lodge, we’ve been a part of several firsts for Care UK, which I’m really proud of. We were the first Care UK home to provide residents with Namaste care and the first to be awarded the ‘Care for VIPs’ accreditation from Worcester University.


I’m very passionate about supporting individuals living with dementia, both initiatives acknowledge a gold-tier level of care as well as heightening support for relatives thanks to a strong focus on person-centred care. From the levels of support and care, I have been shortlisted for ‘Dementia Care Manager of the Year’ at the National Care Awards 2023.


I am keen to create an inclusive environment for everyone, we celebrate all cultures and LGBTQ+ with a variety of activities. Field Lodge has a homely atmosphere, I’m incredibly proud of the whole team who make the home such a comfortable place for everyone.

Job Title: Lifestyle Coordinator & Dementia Care Coach

I love the family feel of our care home and enjoy getting to know the residents and their families. Knowing I’ve made a difference in the resident's lives, especially those living with dementia, is the highlight of my day.


I’m a trained namaste practitioner, as part of my day I run namaste sessions which include hand or foot massages, music therapy, and themed sensory and gentle movement sessions. I’m very passionate about namaste as it gives people living with advanced dementia a way to communicate, it brings dignity, connection, and comfort, embracing the essence of each individual within the environment of the home.


Field Lodge is like no other care home, I love working here, and I’ve been at the home since 2014.

Job Title: Lifestyle Lead

I put on a programme of activities every week, I love organising fun and exciting things for residents to do, whether that’s out in the minibus, or entertainment and activities in the home. Our location is a real treat as in a couple of minutes residents are in St Ives, where we can stop and get a coffee and feed the ducks.


But not everyone likes going out or group activities, I find it just as important to have a cup of tea and a natter, this can be about their life history or life at home, I always ensure activities are resident-led, to ensure maximum enjoyment and engagement.


I have worked at Care UK since 2014, it’s a fantastic organisation, everyone cares about delivering the highest quality care.

I have over 30 years’ experience in catering in hotels and restaurants, when I joined Field Lodge in 2020 it was my first experience of working in a care home.
