Drovers House is located on the old Cattle Market in Rugby, benefiting from being close to local shops, markets, a theatre, cinema, library, train station and bus route.

To ensure an active lifestyle, Lifestyle Coaches plan a range of activities and trips out in the community. There is also a café, shop, luxury spa bath and a beauty salon offering unisex hairdressing and manicures.

Drovers House offers long-term and respite care for older people across six households, each benefiting from its own communal open-plan lounge, dining area and kitchen, where people can make their own snacks and drinks and staff are always on hand to prepare hot refreshments if requested. All rooms have ensuite wetrooms, a personalised front door, plenty of storage and the facility to install a TV or phone. For couples, a double apartment can be created with a bedroom and private lounge, or adjacent bedrooms are available.

The home uses a range of technology to enhance the health and wellbeing of residents, including circadian lighting in one household and the reception area, and acoustic night-time monitoring.

The open living area is a central hub for each household where people can get together and socialise with other residents, family and friends. The garden includes a specially designed cycle path for a side-by-side bicycle for two, outdoor gym equipment, summerhouse, a tool shed, raised beds and varied planting which residents and staff take care of.

My mum is currently a resident at Drovers House, having stayed there initially because of a bad fall at home. The staff have been so welcoming and friendly and it's been very easy for me to have conversations about Mum's care. Mum says that she feels so well looked after. What I like most about the
home is that they actively encourage as much independence in living as they can with every resident. They have some great plans for the Queen's Platinum Jubilee! The residential pets (cats and chickens), the garden, cafe and hair salon all add to the sense of belonging to a neighbourhood with friends and family. I can't imagine how hard it's been during the pandemic, but every staff member I've met on my visits just puts so much effort and passion into what they do.

Dad moved into Drovers House in March and is settling in. The staff have been very understanding and have supported us all during this transition to residential care. Communication is good and they respond quickly to any concerns or queries - they are vastly experienced and have given us excellent support
and advice to help Dad. Care staff are clearly happy and even at their busiest times are cheery and welcoming. The areas of the home are arranged as households, around a kitchen diner and living room - a great idea as it is homely and relaxed. We are so pleased that we chose Drovers House for Dad.

The staff have been hard working and going above and beyond during these difficult times. Their care for Mum has been excellent and she enjoys being here and the staff she classes as friends, and she enjoys her meals and treats too.

My nan became a resident of Drovers House at the height of the pandemic. This was a difficult decision for our family as we hadn’t long lost my pop and hadn’t considered the prospect of putting Nan into a home. We were unable to physically see the care home due to Covid rules, however, the staff welcomed
my nan with open arms and soon got her settled. Despite the circumstances surrounding Nan becoming a resident, I can not thank the managers and the fantastic team at Drovers. Not only have they given Nan all the care she needs, their approach to the pandemic and ensuring us as a family are kept informed has been second to none. Too many to mention but big thanks to the managers and the staff for all their help, support and care since Nan arrived.

Drovers is a lovely care home; kept very clean. My mother is looked after very well with all her needs catered for and beyond. Excellent entertainment; catering for all types. Her room is very cosy and well looked after. My mother has been very happy since moving into Drovers House loving every minute.
The staff are all lovely and caring. I would certainly recommend Drovers to anyone.

My mother has been a resident at Drovers House for four years. We are delighted.
The carers are first class, on so many occasions I’ve seen them go the extra mile to make sure residents are happy and feel cared for. They care passionately and are proud to help the residents.
Friends and relatives
are made very welcome (any time pre the pandemic and as much as is safely possible during Covid times). You can quickly become a member of the Drovers family, it’s so rewarding when you join in with activities; a game of bingo or dominoes is great fun. The kettle is always on and there’s plenty of biscuits on hand.
The home manager and her senior team will always find time to listen and help where they can. If you are worried or concerned in any way make the time to talk, work with the home team to fix the problem.
If you’ve not been to Drovers House I strongly recommend you go see it for yourself.

I have been very pleased with the care given to mum. The staff have been great throughout the last 12 months with video calls, sending photos and arranging visits. All of the staff go out of their way to make our visits to mum as special as possible.

My dear Auntie was a resident at Drovers House for 6 years and she passed away at the grand age of 102 years 4 weeks. During her time there she was very happy and well cared for. The care she received in her final days was exemplary and we are extremely grateful for all the love and care she received.

Mum was moved into Drovers for residential care several years ago due to dementia. As with all establishments, there are sometimes issues that can cause concern, once discussed with staff/management, issues are dealt with promptly and positively. Staff are always polite and helpful. Mum is cared for
in a loving, positive way and I believe her needs are well catered for. During “normal” times a religious group visits weekly providing a short service for those residents wishing to attend; a hairdresser visits to maintain appearances and the home has residential pets, giving the place a home from home feel. Drovers is very spacious, airy, and clean and everywhere is well maintained, including the gardens. Laundry is well managed and food is freshly prepared and served appropriately according to individual needs. During the testing time of the pandemic, video calls were made until safe visiting could resume and the Relatives Gateway provides daily care updates. Thank you all at Drovers.

I have been very impressed with Drovers during the pandemic. They have ensured that I have been able to see my Mum on a consistent basis whilst observing social distancing rules. The facilities at Drovers are very good, and on a whole, I am very pleased with the care my Mum receives. My Mum's key worker,
and many other members of staff, are very good carers.

Mum is very well looked after and is happy. All of the staff are invested in the job they do, and we can see that they are really fond of mum. Recently, mum had a fall and had to go into hospital for a week. The care home staff kept us fully informed and I am pleased to say that mum made a good recovery
and is back being treated like a queen! I would fully recommend this care home.

My mum came out of the hospital and was placed in drovers as an intermediate as it was not safe for her to go home. They have been good with communication and honest with situations. My mum is fully coherent and is looking great. She is fully trusting her carers and I am happy to visit weekly separated
but to see her makes me feel happy. Provided mum with mobile which the carers are good enough to help her to speak or FaceTime with me or my brother in Spain. Concerned with Covid cases but confident they will do everything to protect my mum.

My Aunt entered Drovers in March 2020 with severe Alzheimer's alongside my uncle who had terminal cancer. The staff seemed lovely and I was confident she was in the right place. My uncle died 2 weeks later. In June, my aunt was taken to hospital where she was found to be dehydrated and constipated.
We also discovered she had lost over 7kg in just 3 months. When she entered Drovers, we were perfectly clear that she was unable to feed herself and that food had to be pureed. Clearly, to have lost that much weight in so short a time, this was not being done. They promised they would weigh her every week but this was not done. She was already extremely frail, so what would have been a visible loss should have been of major concern for the staff at Drovers House. When my aunt was discharged from hospital, we placed her in a different home where she passed her last three months being properly cared for.


COVID-19 is not an excuse for lack of care.

Dad became part of the Drovers family in November 2019 and immediately settled in. The staff team made us all feel very welcome and part of the family, inviting us to join in with activities and visit whenever we wanted to. Dad was cared for by amazing compassionate people, right up to when he passed
recently in mid-October. During lockdown this year, as we were unable to have normal visits with Dad they did everything they could to help us keep contact with him - video calls, garden visits, waving from the window and phone chats from the balcony while we stood outside. It was so hard not to have the close contact with him we were used to but we knew he was being well cared for, loved even, by his amazing carers. As Dad declined, they all did everything they could to ensure they maintained his dignity. They showed him such loving care and compassion I cannot say enough about it. They genuinely cared. We believe we chose exactly the right home for Dad. Thank you, Drovers. You're amazing!

Very professional and polite. Drovers House is just what my mother needed, especially with her Alzheimer’s and her other medical problems. Also, it’s good for the home that they have a doctor's surgery opposite.

Fantastic home. The care they provide for my mum is amazing. My mum moved in March, just before the lockdown which meant I could only see her through the window. My mum settled in with the help and care she was given. I have lots of phone calls which is brilliant and my mum's room is very clean and
tidy. My mum is kept very clean and always dressed nicely, the staff are very friendly and approachable at all times.

I cannot recommend the care in this home highly enough. My mother-in-law was in residence from March 2020 - October 2020 during the lockdown, an incredibly challenging time and the staff team were incredibly supportive, treating my mother-in-law with respect and dignity. Visiting was limited due to
Covid, however, the deputy manager made sure we had communication with her and we were consulted and informed. As my mother-in-law's care declined, the deputy manager became our 'voice' with all of the services as well as offering us support and keeping us informed. During her last days, both the deputy manager and the team leader provided the most outstanding care and it was amazing to watch the trust that had built up between them and my mother-in-law. The gentle care and warmth they displayed remains with all of us, we were truly blown away by their professionalism, passion and commitment to their jobs. Those last days are incredibly precious memories and we will be eternally grateful to both of them.

My Mother was placed at Drovers House after a fall and hospital stay. Drovers House would have been my first choice, so I was happy with her placement. The staff exceeded my expectations, the facilities are modern, bright and clean and in Covid 19 times, the security and safety of staff and patients
was paramount. The latest temperature scan combined with a disinfectant mist on entry shows how committed the staff are to the safety of those in their care. I could fill the rest of this article with the names of those who went above and beyond to make my mother feel welcome and in her last days, sat with her on their short breaks, stayed behind to talk to medical staff and come in on days off to see her. I can't thank them all sufficiently, they are a credit to their profession.

My mum has been in Drovers House since September 2015 and is suffering from advanced Alzheimer's. Drovers House is a modern, bright, clean and spacious home with a nice garden and outside area for residents to enjoy. In my experience, staff are very caring, kind and understanding and all work very hard.
Mum is very comfortable there, has a rapport with the staff and seems settled. The Relatives Gateway is a very useful online tool which allows me to monitor Mum's activities, interaction and health on a daily basis. I would recommend this care home to others.

Stephanie McElhatton

Job Title: General Manager

Joined: 2003

I’m the General Manager at Drovers House and have been with WCS Care since 2003.


I started as a Carer at Dewar Close in Rugby and soon aspired to be a Home Manager. In my journey, I’ve worked in various roles such as Senior Carer, Care Manager and Deputy Home Manager in our Rugby homes, before becoming Home Manager at Drovers in 2020.


I love how I can make a difference in our residents’ lives and share my knowledge with my team to help them deliver high-quality care.


Outside of work, I love taking part in quiz games or watching them on TV (from The Chase to Family Fortunes), reading fiction and watching documentaries.
