We moved Mum into Winchcombe Place about three months ago. Right from the start, before Mum even moved in, all the staff we worked with were incredibly helpful, sympathetic and supportive to us and Mum.
The quality of care is really lovely, the carers really do seem to treat this as a vocation rather
than just a job. The chefs happily prepare special meals for Mum to provide her with nutritious meals to her liking.
The entertainment and stimulation from the very comprehensive programme of activities is fantastic. The various animal visitors and entertainers are always a joy.
It was an incredibly difficult decision to move Mum into a care home, but the staff at Winchcombe Place made the whole process very straightforward and much less stressful than it could have been. I'd have absolutely no hesitation in recommending

Excellent care, friendly compassionate staff, clean environment and well-managed. Our family would highly recommend this establishment.
Mother has been here for 6 years and has enjoyed excellent and healthy meals prepared by a talented chef. She is simulated by daily crafts, entertainment or well-supervised
field trips.

The home is first class. The staff were excellent and very caring. The set-up of the home gave the residents plenty of opportunity to get involved with day-to-day events. The home was clean which is important. I would certainly recommend this home to care for a family member. Many thanks to all the

My two sons described Winchcombe Place as homely and very friendly when they were searching for a Care Home in Newbury for their mum, and this is a great description. I have found the staff very friendly and deliver their services in a calm, kind manner with friendly engagement. They communicate with
patients very easily and make them feel at home. Security is well provided and allows patients freedom of movement within the building. Facilities, building layout etc., are very well provided and enable a comfortable calm environment for the patients. I have found the management very easy to deal with and they strive hard to meet customers needs. A very good Care Home and highly recommended.

Dad went in for a 2 week respite stay in May.
When we came to see him he said “I don’t want to leave!” At 94 that speaks for itself. However as a relative I see the care and attention the staff offer to all the residents.
They are caring, kind and very friendly. There are such varied activities
going in and as a family know that dad is safe, well cared for of respected.
It’s a home from home and I would highly recommend Winchcombe Place.

My mum is a new resident. The care home has made the move for her very easy. It has a very homely feel, the staff are all friendly and helpful to both myself and my mum. The facilities are excellent and the amount of activities on offer is great with plenty of choices. Her room is large with a lovely
personal outside space. I have been very impressed by all the staff I have met. The cafe is wonderful with a great cake selection. Nothing is too much trouble.

We have been so lucky that our dad has become a full-time resident at Winchcombe Place in Newbury. He has settled into his new home so well, he loves it there. We were encouraged to personalise his room to make him feel comfortable and have familiar belongings around him. We had lots of help from the
maintenance man hanging his pictures and his television, nothing was any trouble. Dad left a lovely two-bedroom flat with lovely views of the river, so it was a big change. However, he now refers to his room as his flat and tells us he likes it better here. He will say he is not lonely and sees people all the time, they bring him tea and care for him. The careers show him such warmth, kindness and respect there has never been a doubt in our families minds that Winchcombe is a safe, loving environment for him to live in. Although these are my words, our dad has told us all "I love it here, everyone is happy and kind to me." Thank you, Winchcombe for looking after our dad.

My mother, who is 93, has been a resident at Winchcombe Place for 10 months and is happily settled there after a warm welcome and kind and patient care by the staff. She enjoys the daily activities that she chooses to go to and has made new friends with other residents. With the supportive care of
the staff at all times we feel that she is well cared for and in a safe and happy place.

Mum has been at Winchcombe Place for almost 18 months now. She has dementia and it is so lovely knowing that she is in safe and capable hands. From being very anxious and frightened before she moved to Winchcombe, Mum is now happy and joins in with a variety of activities. The staff are amazing and
very caring, keeping me informed of how she is and ensuring she is happy and well cared for. Although she doesn't always remember what she has done it is lovely sharing the photographs with her that the staff have taken. She's always loved having her hair done so having a hairdresser on site is an added bonus! We often go out and about but always return for tea and cake at the wonderful coffee shop where the cakes are to die for! Thank you to you all at Winchcombe - you're amazing! Will certainly be booking my room when the time comes!!

Mum is on the second floor and there is always a warm and friendly atmosphere there when I visit.
All the carers do a fantastic job. Mum is very well cared for and I would have no hesitation in recommending Winchcombe Place.

My aunt has been a resident at Winchcombe Place for a year. Yesterday was her 94th birthday. I can't thank the team enough for their hard work in making it a very special day. A lovely birthday tea was laid on with a scrumptious spread of sandwiches and a magnificent cake made by the catering team,
which was so large that other residents could share and join in the fun! The lifestyle coordinator went out of her way to add some very special touches, specific to my aunt, which were very much appreciated by both my aunt and the family. We had a lovely afternoon, and some fabulous memories have been made. Thank you all so much.

Dad has been at Winchcombe Place Care Home for three weeks and his care is fantastic. Staff have made the transition into care far easier for us, as a family, by by so empathetic and caring.

I'm still speechless, I cannot believe what a wonderful day my mother had at the motorbike meet held here last Sunday. She actually had a ride on a trike and I've not seen her that happy for years, smiling, laughing and waving, just so happy. This is the lady that would be content with shutting herself

Mum has had a two-week stay and I have had such peace of mind. She has been well looked after. The staff here are amazing and can deal with any situation. The activities, cinema, coffee shop and food provided is excellent. I feel that my mum is safe and provided for at all times.

My sister has been a resident at Winchcombe Place since July 2016. She is now 90 and unfortunately can not leave her bed now. She is looked after by excellent carers who visit her every hour and make sure that she is comfortable. the meal menus offer a choice but other options are always available.
For residents who are mobile, there is a daily programme of activities which are well supported. The management and staff are very friendly which creates a nice atmosphere when you are visiting. I visit 2 or 3 times a week. This is an excellent care home.

My aunt was very poorly when she arrived due to the long journey. She was welcomed and treated with the greatest of care, since then she has received nothing but kindness, respect and care. Her personal care has been outstanding with regular showers, change of clothing and bedding (despite her rather
grubby way of life prior to coming to the home!) The staff have even managed to take her to the on-site hairdresser.
She has had communion from a local priest. Been to a quiz and a chair dance class. Even had a pony visit her room!
This care home is outstanding, as are all the staff.

Claire Cullen

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2024

I have 30 years of experience working in care homes, and I was keen to join Care UK because of Winchcombe Place’s great reputation within the local community.


Before this, I was working as a Home Manager of a nursing home for residents living with dementia who required nursing care.


As Home Manager of Winchcombe Place, it’s important that I’m empathetic, a good listener and have good leadership skills. I ensure I’m always open and transparent and show my own learning when needed.


My favourite part of the day is walking around the home and talking to residents, relatives and colleagues. By spending time with residents, I find out what else we can be doing to enhance their lives.


I’m proud of my achievements, including a career highlight of turning a home from ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Good’ within six months. But I also feel fulfilled when I see my team enhancing the lives of residents or progressing in their careers. Seeing the residents smile and having a great quality of life also makes everything we do worth it.


The most important part of my role is ensuring the safety of the residents and all those who visit Winchcombe Place. As both a manager and someone who has had a loved one live in a care home, I have valuable experience seeing care homes from both sides.


When I’m not at work, I enjoy family walks with my beautiful cockapoo Lottie, cooking and travelling.
