Acorn House is a purpose-built residential care home based in the community of Carrington, Nottingham, that also specialises in dementia care. The spacious interiors and homely decorations complement the work of professional carers, and create a calming and homely atmosphere.

En-suite rooms and landscaped gardens delight residents and their families, who also have their own on-site cafe to enjoy. Health and wellbeing needs are very important and the Activities Coordinators work with residents and families to develop an exciting programme of activities and events that are tailored to personal interests.

Residents and staff go out into the community and the community are invited into the home, in order to build positive relationships and enable social inclusion for residents. They are also many intergenerational activities so that residents are able to engage with all age groups, from toddlers to college students.

All care is carried out in a bespoke fashion, with passion, empathy and enthusiasm at the centre of all decisions taken. Carers understand the importance of person-centred care, and the residents needs and preferences are placed at the centre of their care.

Choices at mealtimes are provided to all residents and they take great pride in the dining experience at Acorn House. Personal preferences and nutritional needs are taken into account and the kitchen team work hard to provide a wide range of healthy and tasty choices for residents.

My mum has been in Acorn House since September 23 and the care she has received has been just wonderful. The whole team are so kind, caring and absolutely professional. It has meant the world to our family to know that Mum is so well cared for and is happy and settled. She loves the staff at the home
as if they are family.

I visited four care homes before deciding Acorn House was the best option for my relative. I could see them living here. My relative has been at Acorn for five months now. The move has gone much better than I anticipated. They have settled into Acorn really well and are happy and content, looking after
my relative's needs. The care is person-centred. Any concerns or problems have been resolved or measures put in place for my relative's well-being.
There are daily activities for residents and Acorn House is well designed for people with dementia. Overall, I am really happy with Acorn, relieved that my relative is being well looked after.

My grandmother has had the best time at Acorn House. She needed to be around others and not isolate herself. The staff are attentive and caring, the home is clean and well presented. A lot of activities to keep the minds ticking. Wouldn't choose anywhere else.

If there were options to rate Acorn House Care Home more highly than excellent, I would be using them liberally. My mother-in-law took up residence after a fall and lived happily there for two years as her Alzheimer’s and Dementia progressed. At every point, Acorn House delivered on what it promised
and more often than not exceeded their own high standards. Sadly, my relative died very recently but the care, compassion and professionalism shown by all the staff to her and to the family was extraordinarily high and has left an indelibly favourable view on us of them all.
The Home seems to me to be values-driven and this shows at all levels and in all aspects of the provision.

Acorn House has cared for my mother with exceptional kindness, respect and compassion. Staff relationships with her have been genuinely warm and consistently ensure her dignity is maintained. As relatives we have experienced similarly outstanding care, respect and kindness from the whole staff team.
Staff have communicated regularly with us to review care plans and promptly when necessary. It is apparent that the staff work and communicate as a team, resulting in a coherent standard from front of house, office staff, the catering and cleaning teams, activity coordinators and carers. Meals have been appetising and varied with special requests met whenever possible. My mother's room has always been clean and well maintained and her clothes carefully laundered. The wide range of activities offered is outstanding. One example was that my mother’s wish on the wishing tree was to hear bagpipes. A few weeks later on Burns Night the chef carrying a haggis was piped in by a piper!

My mum was at the home for 2 years before passing away and we as a family cannot thank the care staff enough for the care my mum and us as a family received, I know my mum loved them all, she loved all the activities they used to do, got lots of memories and photos, just a big thank you to all the staff.

The management and staff at Acorn House have been wonderfully supportive during my dad's introduction into living in care. It was a tough decision to put Mum in a care home, however, we needn't have worried. The staff are amazing and got to know our Mum really well really quickly. She is content there and feels at home. They are brilliant in keeping in touch with families. She is cared for in the very best possible way

Welcome to Acorn House!


I have been working in the sector for the past 20 years following the death of my father in 2001. While he was receiving palliative care at home I have been looking after him. My passion was always in care and making a difference no matter how big or small it was. After spending 12 years in 24-hour nursing care, I decided to move to residential care.


I came to work for Acacia Care 7 years ago and I have held many positions within the company from Night Manager, Care Manager, Home Manager and Regional Support Manager to my now current role as General Manager. I feel very honoured and privileged to have been given this opportunity to manage Acorn House and I hope my work and the work of the team will make a difference in the lives of our residents and their families.
