Acorn House is a purpose-built residential care home based in the community of Carrington, Nottingham, that also specialises in dementia care. The spacious interiors and homely decorations complement the work of professional carers, and create a calming and homely atmosphere.

En-suite rooms and landscaped gardens delight residents and their families, who also have their own on-site cafe to enjoy. Health and wellbeing needs are very important and the Activities Coordinators work with residents and families to develop an exciting programme of activities and events that are tailored to personal interests.

Residents and staff go out into the community and the community are invited into the home, in order to build positive relationships and enable social inclusion for residents. They are also many intergenerational activities so that residents are able to engage with all age groups, from toddlers to college students.

All care is carried out in a bespoke fashion, with passion, empathy and enthusiasm at the centre of all decisions taken. Carers understand the importance of person-centred care, and the residents needs and preferences are placed at the centre of their care.

Choices at mealtimes are provided to all residents and they take great pride in the dining experience at Acorn House. Personal preferences and nutritional needs are taken into account and the kitchen team work hard to provide a wide range of healthy and tasty choices for residents.

Staff very nice, willing to help you with anything. If they don't know, they will find out. My dad seems to have settled in well. He looks very good in his appearance. During Covid, the staff have kept me informed with changes, safe visits and FaceTime phone calls. I and my family are very happy with

My lovely nana stayed at Acorn House for some respite care following a hospital admission after a fall which knocked her confidence greatly. Acorn House staff were very professional from start to finish while we were sorting out her admission. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming from the
start and looked after my nana with great care and attention to which she regained her confidence and was looking better than ever and this was all thanks to the staff team. I was also able to book a visit to see nana through the booking system and again all current and relevant guidance followed and having to have a covid test beforehand I was put at ease and it made the experience much better. I would like to thank all the staff for making my nana's stay a good experience.

Over the COVID situation, the home acted very promptly and closed doors. No cases at all. The staff very friendly and helpful. When visitors were allowed it was all handled well with good protocols in place to make things safe for all. Over last week when Mother was in her last days - again good process
in place for me to visit. Lovely staff, good care and very happy with care received.

I really appreciate Acorn House and every one of their staff. I am extremely grateful for the way that they have looked after my mum during her 15-month stay with them, but especially during the recent coronavirus lockdown. They have followed all guidelines to the letter, and this had paid off. Although
it has been difficult not seeing my mum, we have all enjoyed following the Facebook page, and seeing the many activities that have been taking place throughout the home. To one of the activity coordinators, keep up the good work, my mum loves your smiley face.

This home is a prime example of all that is wrong with dementia care in Nottingham. The whole building is woefully understaffed and blighted by management desperate to keep their dysfunctional system intact at the expense of the people they profess to care for. Do not let anyone you love live the last
of their days within the clutches of this uncaring organisation.

I wanted to take this time to thank everyone at Acorn House for their level of professionalism, care and love during an unprecedented time with the coronavirus.
How the care givers, and all the staff kept the virus out of the home is only due to their endless commitment to their residents and the families.
I live in the US and my calls that turned into Skype calls, where the management would use their own personal computers to allow me to see my mum, was so kind that it leaves me lost for words. They really understood what the scare of the coronavirus was doing to the family, and friends that were no longer able to visit. I have built special relationships with the staff, during this time they shared new procedures, policy changes and any issues. They are a team, and my family is a part of that team to have the very best care for my mum. I will be forever grateful to everyone at Acorn for not only taking care of my mum but also all the other residents. We are truly blessed.

My mum spent her last two weeks of life at Acorn House. It was a special and difficult time, and everyone at the care home did all they could to ensure she was well cared for and had everything she needed.
In the final 36-hours, I was there all the time, and the staff made me really welcome, fed me
and cared for me also.
The ethos of this care home is fabulous - people are treated as individuals and as if they and their lives really matter. Everyone, from management, through care staff to cleaners are thoughtful, kind and professional. The staff genuinely seem to enjoy working there, which is exceptional in today's overstretched and under-resourced care system. We also received excellent support from the local GP team who visit the care home weekly.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this care home to anyone looking.

My grandmother has been at Acorn House for nearly 4 years. In the last year she has rapidly deteriorated. When floor 2 was mentioned, as a family we were dubious, but I looked around, spoke to the manager and staff and decided with the advice given to move her. It has been a strain as she has mainly
been on bed rest since her admittance but the management and staff have been extremely helpful and reassuring. Both my mum and I would not want her anywhere else. So thankful to you all.

My nan moved to this home in the early part of 2019. She had been in another home previously but we were not happy with the care that had been provided and decided to move her. As a family were extremely anxious, however, we did not need to be, the staff team from managers to carers, to domestic and
activities was like one big family. The communication was first class any issues or concerns the home would call and keep us up to date.
Sadly my nan recently passed away, the compassion and empathy that was shown to us was outstanding, the end of life care was outstanding and the support we received was second to none. The manager even attended my nans funeral and again supported us on this extremely sad day.
All I can say is that anyone that is looking for a care home for their loved one needs to view this home. Our only regret is she didn't come here first.
I highly recommend this home and I thank the staff for the love and support shown to us all.

My Aunt stayed here on respite care while my mum went and had a break. My aunt has dementia and can no longer recognise family which is very upsetting. The staff made us all feel welcome when we brought my aunt for her stay and nothing was too much trouble. The staff deserve a medal looking after people
like my aunt, they are all fantastic we will definitely be bringing her back again in the near future.

Welcome to Acorn House!


I have been working in the sector for the past 20 years following the death of my father in 2001. While he was receiving palliative care at home I have been looking after him. My passion was always in care and making a difference no matter how big or small it was. After spending 12 years in 24-hour nursing care, I decided to move to residential care.


I came to work for Acacia Care 7 years ago and I have held many positions within the company from Night Manager, Care Manager, Home Manager and Regional Support Manager to my now current role as General Manager. I feel very honoured and privileged to have been given this opportunity to manage Acorn House and I hope my work and the work of the team will make a difference in the lives of our residents and their families.
