The carers and nurses wear the same colours, everyone is equal. All staff have time and kindness in abundance. including management.
I sleep at night. priceless.
And the place never smells.
My only wish is the carers were paid more, they do an amazing job.
Food sometimes not good (I have offered to cook) but mostly ok.
The food gripe is tiny when compared to all the pluses.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. Knowing families feel safe in the knowledge that their loved one is being cared for is the highest compliment we can possibly receive. It is great to know that we are being recognised as the caring and safe home we set out to be.
In a recent survey we conducted, 97% of our residents and relatives agreed that they are satisfied with the range and choice of meals provided at our home. We are however, always looking for ways to improve the services we offer, therefore we welcome your feedback about the food. We have a Food Tasting Group comprising of residents and relatives where ideas are regularly discussed and improvements to the dining experience at Penylan House are made. We will be in touch to invite you to join the group should it be of interest to you.

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback. It is lovely to know that we are succeeding in most of what we hope is seen as a caring and safe place for your mother to live.
I am always seeking ways to improve our service and look forward to meeting up with you to discuss how we can do just that whilst meeting your mother's dietary requirements. Thank you very much for the suggestions, we do our best to provide variety and choice, so new ideas are always welcome.
Our care staff numbers remain constant across the 7 day week with no reduction at weekends. There will be times when due to unforeseen circumstances (staff calling in sick), we may have less than normal. Having said that, I am sure you will appreciate our staff ratio is well above the norm and we are always more than adequately staffed.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. Firstly I would like to assure you that we are investing heavily in the recruitment and retention of staff. All our staff have a full week of induction along with ongoing training and support. Our staff turnover has significantly reduced and this is something we are constantly monitoring. We plan activities for the weekend however if you have any other ideas you would like to share with us, please let us know and we will do our best to arrange.

My previous profession in Zimbabwe was a camera operator. To be a healthcare professional was never in my mind, however, I have always had attributes of caring nature, giving time to listen, and offering respect to any human being. This led to one of my friends, years ago, to suggest that l should consider a support work role whilst in the UK. At that time, I was very reluctant and assumed that l would only be driving people around for social activities etc., This proved to be a game changer in my life, as l found working with people with mental health issues and learning difficulties in the community rewarding and fulfilling. At this point l noticed that it was not just a job but a ‘’calling’’. I then started my training from level 3 NVQ going through access to nursing then completing BSC 1st class degree in Mental Health Nursing.
I joined Penylan House in January 2020 with the intention of getting a short break from a high-intensity work environment. I have worked in different mental health hospitals, from older adults to mental health intensive care units. I decided to explore my experience in working with older adults which was the driving force for me to join Penylan House Nursing Home as a short-term measure. However, this proved me wrong as l fell in love with working with older adults. I am committed in providing high-quality care in a safe environment like Penylan Nursing Home. I am a passionate, motivated and resident-focused Nurse or Registered Manager possessing an in-depth knowledge of the principles, methods and procedures for diagnosis and treatment. In addition, a responsible self-starter with good interpersonal and communication skills be it in a leadership setting or working collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team. As the Manager of Penylan House, l solemnly promise that l will foster respecting residents autonomy and dignity while treating residents as customers exercising choices.

Until 2014 I worked as a community volunteer, which included helping my elderly neighbours out. One of them came to Penylan House and I used to visit them there. I was very impressed with the home and applied for a job here, so I started in 2014 as a part-time night care assistant. As well as having NVQ levels 2 and 3 in social care, I studied fine arts in Mexico, where I was born, and I’ve always had a passion for art and painting, I apply my skills supporting residents with meaningful activities, which I’ve been doing since 2016. I received a silver award in the promoting fulfilled lives category, from Wales Care Awards 2022.

I originally worked at Linc’s Nursing Home in Newport, Capel Grange, but transferred to Penylan House as the shift times were more suitable for my personal commitments. The home has a good reputation for providing excellent care and the standards are really high. The home is friendly and welcoming, and the team I work with is great.
We are like one big family! Staff and residents get along really well. We all support and help one another to the best of our ability. Knowing you have had a positive effect on them is a great feeling, and making sure the residents are happy and content makes the staff happy too.
