Asterbury Place in Ipswich is an ‘Outstanding’-rated care home (April 2019) dedicated to delivering the best care while ensuring residents get the most out of each day.

The skilled team provides residential, nursing and dementia care and support that is personalised to each resident’s needs, wishes and preferences. Each resident is involved in decisions about their care and lifestyle at Asterbury Place, and they choose how to spend the day and have a say in decisions about how the home is run.

The home itself has some fantastic facilities for residents to enjoy at their leisure, including a cinema, café, hair and beauty salon and lovely landscaped gardens. Every bedroom is beautifully decorated and furnished, with an en-suite wet-room.

I visit my Grandad regularly, it feels like home as soon as we arrive. all staff are friendly and welcoming. The coffee shop is a great place with a great atmosphere to interact with all staff and other residents. I feel Grandad is treated with the upmost respect and he is very happy here. Overall review

My wife moved into Asterbury Place at the end of June 2023, having spent a few weeks at another care home. The translation went very well, she settled quickly and now some four weeks later is very happy and safe. Every visit we have had is a very happy experience. Also, I think Asterbury Place go the
extra mile, not only are the staff caring. They are also very supportive and interested in my wife's and my well-being.

I visit my partner twice a week and have always found a very welcoming atmosphere from all staff. The building is clean and well looked after. The staff are efficient and very friendly. My partner is extremely happy staying in the care home.

Asterbury Place is an amazing care home. Mum has settled into her new home very quickly and this is down to the care she is receiving. From the point of arriving at the home, Mum was greeted with smiles and a warm welcome. Each member of staff goes far and beyond their duties. I feel assured my mum

Asterbury Place is a happy place to be due to some amazing staff who have always been happy, helpful and humorous! There is always a 'buzz' about the place with various activities going on including singers and drum fit. Dad enjoys the food, especially the desserts and snacks that are provided. He is
well looked after and the care calls I receive to say how he is getting on are very much appreciated. I would strongly recommend the home.

My Dad was a resident at this care home. He had symptoms of COVID and the team was supposed to monitor him every four-five hours for 72 hours and did not do so! They maybe checked him three times in this period, resulting in hospital admission on April 8th then passing on 10th April. The staff had PPE
but were not wearing it until the first death, which was my Dad. I also think the manager is very unsympathetic.

Thank you for your review of Asterbury Place. We understand that your concerns have since been investigated and a discussion has now taken place to address them. Care UK took the decision on the 16th March 2020 to restrict visiting to our homes, to all but essential visitors, in an attempt to reduce roots of transmission of the Covid-19 virus into our homes and save lives. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) was in use throughout Care UK, including Asterbury Place. However, advice and guidance to the adult social care sector at the time was that PPE only be worn where the resident presented as symptomatic or was known to be infected when delivering personal care. The Covid-19 pandemic has been a challenging and upsetting period and we understand for those who have lost loved ones, the impact has been hardest felt. Care UK has attempted, at every stage of the pandemic, to follow and adhere to the guidance provided nationally, adopting at the earliest opportunity changes in guidance and advice, in an attempt to safeguard the welfare and wellbeing of our residents. Thank you again for taking the time to write a review and we are sincerely sorry for the tragic loss of your father.

This care home has a wonderful atmosphere, from the time you first enter the reception, you are greeted by welcoming staff. Always happy to answer questions and always willing to help.
My Mum, a resident for over two years, has received a standard of care that has always been consistently high. The
food is fresh, and the meals are hastily consumed by residents; keen to get back to participate in organised activities. I would not wish for my Mum to be anywhere else, she is surrounded by genuine caring staff; set in carefully designed, and thought out surroundings.
The lounge area in the home feels calm and relaxed with a large TV screen, the dining area is spacious and clean. The cafe area often has featured entertainers, singers, performers, and the in-house activity staff are creative and ensure all residents have the opportunity to be involved. Whether it be Bingo, Tombola or impersonated singer's; its usually packed and the atmosphere encourages residents to join in and sing along.

Victoria Barber

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2024

Before joining Asterbury Place, I managed three care homes and worked as an operations manager of a hospice for two years.


Before that, I spent nearly 15 years in the NHS, including in cancer and palliative care and cancer service improvement. I’ve undertaken a variety of training and development throughout my career within the NHS, and I also qualified as a Coach and NLP Practitioner in 2018 and am registered with the National Council of Psychotherapists.


I’m a values-driven person, and I was keen to join Care UK because its core values of caring, passion and teamwork align with my own. In this role, you need to be dynamic, approachable and personable. As Home Manager, I’m there for everyone: residents, relatives and colleagues. It fills me with pride to lead a diverse team who strive to always do their best. My favourite part of each day is my drive home, when I spend time thinking about which resident, relative or colleague’s life I made a difference in that day.


Outside of work, I’m a keen gardener and walker. I like nothing more than walking down to the river wall with not a car in sight to watch the birds, wildlife and boats.
