The home has beautiful views of St Mary’s lighthouse and the ever-changing North Sea coastline perfect for an afternoon spent by the sea. This lovely home offers residents a choice of sitting rooms, dining areas and quiet spots, as well as a salon and cosy tea rooms.

Community is an integral part of life at Eastbourne House, and the team works hard to support residents to build positive relationships in the Whitley Bay neighbourhood, regularly organising events with local schools, charities and businesses in the area.

We cannot thank the staff enough for the care and kindness shown to my mother-in-law and to the family since she moved from her own home to Eastbourne House after the death of her husband.
Care staff, catering staff, admin staff also respond to requests and provide the help needed to support all of
us at a very emotional time.

The staff have tome to chat to the residents which is very important for my dad. It's great that regular activities are organised, also the daily newssheet and themes.
My only criticism is that my dad sometimes has dirty clothes on 2 days in a row - is there any way his clothes could be checked at
night or morning? Also, he needs help putting denture adhesive on his teeth. 10/10 to staff - always positive, upbeat and helpful.

I am very pleased with the care my father receives. He now has problems with choking due to Parkinson's disease and the home have worked hard to ensure that his pureed food is still well presented and appetising. His room is always spotless and smells fresh and clean. But most importantly, the care
staff really do care. They are kind, pleasant and always helpful even on those days when they are under pressure.

My father has been a resident at Eastbourne House since October 2017. My greatest wish is for dad to be HAPPY. I also want him to be respected and well cared for. He was lonely at home so craves company. All my wishes for dad have been met. The staff, management right down to cleaning staff have been
friendly and brilliant with dad sho so much appreciates all they do for him, plus their friendship, He is HAPPY.

Recently my father, a resident in Eastbourne House, was having problems with his eyes. A doctor referred him to the eye clinic in Newcastle. The management had three options. 1, to call the doctor and ask him to arrange patient transport. 2, to call either myself or my sister and know/ask us to make
arrangements to get him transport. 3, to call a taxi service to take him. They chose option 3 and then proceeded to pass the expense of their decision on to my father. I and my siblings found this inappropriate.

We are very happy to hear that your Father is experiencing positive outcomes in many areas and your Father reports that he is happy in our home. With regard to your comment about transport; following GP advice is was necessary to take your father to hospital that day. It was too late to arrange patient transport as this requires booking in advance. We discussed with your father how he would like get to the hospital and he agreed a taxi would be a good idea.

It is a great relief to our family that Dad is now in a safe and comfortable environment. From our first visit, the front of house staff give everyone a warm welcome and are very friendly. My husband has recently spent a period of respite on Eastbourne House. I cannot praise the home enough for the care and attention my husband received throughout his stay. The staff from management to care staff and support workers were all extremely professional and helpful at all times. The home is
pleasant and well-maintained throughout and they do their best to provide a range of activities. I would recommend Eastbourne House to anyone.

It's a nice environment. Staff show interest in my mother and what I think about the care.
They encourage engagement in group activities. My mother seems to have a good rapport with the staff.


There have been occasional impatience from carers in relation to lack of mobility of my mother.
Some

communication issues between staff regarding the latest recommendation from the district nurse in relation to her pressure sore.

Staff work very hard. They listen to you and do their best to address any questions, comments and concerns as quickly as possible. Staff are extremely caring and kind to my relatives. They also value them as individuals and enjoy their company. The care home is of a very high standard, welcoming and

Both of my parents have been residents at Eastbourne House for about 2 years. In that time, they have been treated with kindness, respect and professionalism. I am welcome at any time and love the fact that I can help myself to tea or coffee. The staff always have the time to let me know how my parents
have been. Care is always tailored to their specific needs and they are treated as if in their own homes. A lovely place with lovely people.

Each home has its own dedicated catering team, who prepare all meals using fresh, raw, ingredients. All fresh meat and meat products are British Farm Assured.
Making sure Residents have a choice of their favourite foods is really important to us. We record individual preferences to make sure our fresh food menus are created around what they want most. We are delighted to welcome families and loved ones to share in mealtimes, and the Sunday roast is a special time at many of our homes.

Mam has lived here for the last 2 and a half years. I feel she is well cared for. Staff, on the whole, are friendly and supportive. The home is clean - nice décor. Mam is always well presented. My only criticism is when Mam become unwell, staff are slow on the uptake ie. taking antibiotics.

Staff members have been reduced and consequently, staff are always in a rush. The entertainment officer is occupied with caring duties and do does not have the time to do what she is meant to do. A trip this week was cancelled because we were told, the bus had broken down.
Despite this, the staff are
excellent. They treat me with dignity and respect, but they do appear overworked.

We endeavour to have a dedicated Wellbeing Co-ordinator at each home to ensure a range of engaging and enjoyable activities are provided for all Residents, based on their individual likes and preferences. We have also provided all homes with a minibus so that day trips can be arranged for Residents and we apologise that your trip had to be cancelled in this instance.


Sometimes, due to staff sickness or vacancies, we are unable to deliver the programme of activities we want to. Please be assured that in these situations we are working very hard to rectify the situation as quickly as possible. We apologise again for the inconvenience caused during these times.

The staff are good but overworked and can't respond to the demands of some of the residents promptly. During my stay (16 months) the number of staff changes was disturbing. I am of the opinion that seniors medically should have more nursing experience to cope with some residents needs - standards vary
depending on floor location.

What does ‘kindness’ mean to you?


“For me, kind care means showing empathy, dignity and diplomacy in everything we do.”
Debbie has gained over 25 years’ experience in providing care and support to older people, to enrich their lives. She is a knowledgeable and dedicated leader who is passionate about delivering the highest standards in care and quality of life for Residents.
Debbie closely shares HC-One’s vision in aiming to provide the kindest care for each and every Resident. She extends this caring approach to her colleagues and works closely with them to deliver care and support to Residents in a way that they gain the most benefit, in a warm and welcoming home.


She also works hard to arrange events and activities with nearby schools and clubs and is always keen to include the local community in life at Eastbourne House.


When asked what she enjoys most about her role, Debbie remarked: “The most rewarding part of my job is definitely having the opportunity to make a difference to our Residents’ lives.”
Away from work, Debbie enjoys spending time with her family, especially on their caravan holidays.
