My Dad is a resident at Sutton Grange. He has many needs which are met so very well by all the staff who care for him. I live 4 hours drive away and I can't visit as often as I would like, but I feel confident that my Dad is being looked after really well. If he has to be in residential care, and he
does, I couldn't imagine a better place for him to live.
My thanks go to everyone involved in my Dad's care.

We moved my elderly father into Sutton Grange in August 2020 between lockdowns as he needed 24-hour nursing care. Sutton Grange collected him and the few belongings he was taking with him in the wheelchair adapted minibus. We were worried about his loss of home and independence but we needn’t have worried.
It was absolutely the right thing to do. He has adapted well and we now have peace of mind that he has the care he needs and is in the right place. We were able to ensure he had his daily paper and his own Sky tv and phone, all of which are his main source of entertainment. The food is excellent and there is an entertainment programme provided. During lockdowns, the home has set up zoom calls and distanced meetings very efficiently. The nursing staff cope well with his needs and the sister in charge is always happy to ring you back if you need clarification or to discuss concerns. The nursing manager is pleasant and helpful.

The manager is a very compassionate, knowledgeable, experienced nurse manager. He leads and develops the whole caring team. The qualified nurses are really experienced and the carers worked so hard to help my father settle in. He moved from Sussex to Lancashire.
I cannot recommend this care home highly
enough the hygiene standards, the care from all staff including Housekeeping and Catering was outstanding. My father was profoundly deaf and the activities coordinator was an expert with hearing aids. I have many happy memories of visiting my dad he was always happy and settled. He really loved the food too! I am so pleased I choose Sutton Grange, part of the Barchester group. They have very high standards of care, Thank you to all the staff, for helping and supporting me too!

Thank you for your supportive and positive review. It is with the support and trust of family and friends, that we can ensure our care is totally focussed on the people who choose Sutton Grange as their home. My mother was a resident of Sutton Grange for approx 2 years until her death. Suffering from Alzheimer's she could be uncooperative and challenging. The staff were extremely sympathetic to her condition and very caring. During the recent lockdown when we were unable to visit I was confident that she
was well cared for within the constraints imposed by the virus. In her last days, the staff were extremely caring and made sure that the family were kept informed and we felt she was treated with dignity right up to the end.

Three weeks ago our brother, who has Alzheimer’s disease, moved into Sutton Grange care home. When viewing Sutton Grange, we were impressed with the clean and modern facilities, beautiful gardens and kind and knowledgeable staff. Over the past three weeks, we have been really impressed with Sutton Grange.
It is a warm, welcoming home with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The staff that we have met have been caring, helpful, supportive and approachable. They have gone above and beyond to support our brother’s individual and medical needs during this time. The activity coordinators have provided a wonderful programme of entertainment for him. They have really supported our brother and they have regularly updated us with news, photographs, Facetime calls and garden visits. We would like to thank Sutton Grange for the care, help and support that they have given us all so far and also for the wonderful communication which has really helped us during this very difficult period.

My mother moved into the care home in October 2015. Previously she lived alone before a spell in hospital. She was diagnosed with dementia and it was deemed unsafe for her to return home. I felt awful about taking her there. In hindsight, it was the best thing I ever did. Her quality of life improved
massively! The environment, facilities, and staff were fantastic. I cannot thank the staff enough.

I have nothing but pure gratitude and admiration for the staff at Sutton Grange and I personally can't thank everyone enough for the care and dedication in looking after my Mum and all the residents during the lockdown. Not being able to visit my Mum, she is now forgetting who I am, but its helping
enormously having video chats, for me anyway, with the guilt and sadness I feel. Thank you to the activities coordinator for organising this.

Reply from Bennett Mott, GM at Barchester Sutton Grange Care Home

Thank you for your review and the encouragement and support you have always given the team. These are difficult times for all of us, but mostly, as I know personally, for loved ones kept away from their parents. Your presents, letters and surprises left at the door for your mum always brighten her day. Keep safe this will pass.

Not having been to visit my friend in Sutton Grange home before, I was very impressed by the welcome I received, the cleanliness of the whole home, the loving care of the staff towards the residents and the hard work of the cleaner to keep everything clean. The meals provided looked delicious (I had
two sandwiches which were delicious) and well presented. Well done to the chef and kitchen staff.

We would wholeheartedly recommend Sutton Grange Care Home.
Mum received the highest quality personalised care throughout her stay, which was also extended to family members when visiting. The whole team, from Manager, Deputy Manager, Nurses and Carers took the important time to get to know our Mum,
her life story, her likes and dislikes and we felt confident her wishes were made possible for her.
Sutton Grange has amazing facilities, beautiful, spacious rooms, lounge/dining areas, gardens and garden patio that we enjoyed as a family on many different occasions. There was always something being celebrated to enhance the lives of residents and their families, we particularly enjoyed the gardens and a Mother's Day family party in the home. The chef's shortbread biscuits are now a thing of legend in our family.
At end of life, Mum and family were wrapped in sensitive, patient loving care and we are deeply grateful for this special time we were enabled to have with her.
Thank you.

The recent move to Sutton Grange has been a fantastic experience for my elderly dad who has dementia. Management and staff all worked together to quickly settle him in and make him feel secure and valued. Dad is sociable by nature and despite his Dementia, all the staff have taken the time and trouble
to get to know his ways and make him feel part of the family. Dad has responded so well to the caring, relaxed and inclusive environment. There is a genuine warmth about the place. The facilities are lovely but it is the staff who make Sutton Grange such an oasis. Well Done and a big thank you from all the family.

When we arrived at Sutton Grange we had a wonderful greeting. So friendly, kind and very polite. It's such a fabulous care home, spotless. Nothing is too much trouble. The staff are so very helpful, you don't feel like you're in a care home, more like being in a 5-star hotel. Just what you want for
your special gentle people. Wonderful.

My mum has been in Sutton Grange for coming up to 2 years. During this time I can only go by what I have seen and experienced, and this has been caring, kindness, compassion, shown to her by all the staff from top to bottom.
I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking to place relatives or
a loved one in Sutton Grange. The home has been through a rough time over the last 12 months, but thankfully they have turned the corner, for the better.
Long may this continue.

My sister moved 200 miles to Sutton Grange. When we arrived, the staff all came together to welcome her and help unload cars of her belongings. The staff are very attentive and encouraging.
The management is very professional but also friendly and helpful.
This undoubtedly is the best care that she
could expect to receive and also a lovely room with a garden outlook.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.179)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.179) out of 10 for Barchester Sutton Grange Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.636 for Barchester Sutton Grange Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (72 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.636

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.543 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Barchester Sutton Grange Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 70 registered maximum number of service users is 14. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 14 = 0.643

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
