My mother has been at Milford Lodge for the past 5 months and I have been delighted with the care she has received. The staff made the transition from her flat as easy as possible, as they have allowed her wherever possible to carry on the routines she was used to at home.
In particular, their support
for her and contact with us during the lockdown has been excellent. She speaks of 'her lovely carers' and they have become friends to us too. It is a relief to know that during such difficult times she is at Milford Lodge.

My mother is resident at Milford Lodge for 4 years now. In my opinion, the management and staff continually demonstrate they are wholly committed to her safety and well being. I have found a great team working there; they are caring and friendly whilst remaining proactive to any emerging problems.
I am confident that standards at this home are consistently high and this reassures me that my having chosen Milford Lodge for Mum has been a good call.

My father was accepted into Milford Lodge in March this year, two weeks before lockdown. Although we have not been able to visit Dad in his room we are able to see him in the garden at a social distance, with visitors wearing masks.
To see Dad settled under such circumstances has been a comfort.
He has told us he is well cared for and he is very well fed. He has been encouraged to walk rather rely on his wheelchair and he is happy with his surroundings.
We have been kept very well informed of what the care home is doing to protect the residents from covid19 and are reassured by their commitment to their safety.
The regular newsletters and emails have been a godsend.
I would highly recommend Milford Lodge and therefore have rated all areas excellent. The recommencement of more social activities will be beneficial to all.

For a while Milford Lodge has been short of staff. If the bell rings from one of the residents it's not always answered. Sometimes it has taken over an hour (especially night time) and the resident has been left on the floor waiting for help. Also, dining tables are often dirty and not cleaned after
breakfast.

My mother sadly passed away this month, having been at Milford Lodge for some 4 years 9 months. Initially, with my father, we have seen the home from its newest opening state to the home it has become today.
At times the management has struggled to get to grips with the myriad of issues surrounding
dementia and other forms of care required, but these are firmly in the past, as the current manager and her fellow colleagues have developed a home that is now not only fit for purpose but one that we would absolutely recommend.
My mother came out of hospital a couple of months ago, and it was obvious that she would not have long. Her condition, as with a number of dementia patients was trying, but the home and the staff on Sycamore were fantastic. Thank you so much to the team, and we will miss you and the friends we have got to know there.

My mum was only at Milford Lodge for a short time before she passed away but I have to say what a lovely place it is.

I cannot praise the carers there enough. They were wonderful not only towards my lovely mum but towards the family.

The care and compassion they gave to my mum were amazing! Every

elderly person should end their days in a place like Milford Lodge Hitchin. I can't fault them on anything!

My mum was a resident at Milford Lodge from the day it opened. When she moved in she was mobile and independent and was allowed to live her life how she chose to. The last two years she became bed bound and suffered with Dementia. She became totally dependent on the staff for all her needs. The staff
gave my mum such excellent care. They were her friends, her support and her life. They enabled her to feel that she was loved and respected. They laughed and cried with her, chatted and listened to her. Sadly my mum passed away last week but she was able to end her life in the care home in the room she had lived in for 4 years. She had family, staff and all her familiar belongings around her.

I cannot thank the staff enough for all the support and love given to her over the years and during the end. They were my support too and I will never forget their kindness and compassion. I would recommend Milford to anyone and will forever be in their debt. Thank you, Milford Lodge Care Home.

This residential home offers high levels of personalised care. My mother-in-law has lived here for 3 years. As a retired GP, I have extensive experience of all kinds of care home and this is one of the best I have experienced. The staff are superb and the same staff keep working here which to me is
an indication of an excellent, supportive working environment.

I would be happy to recommend Milford Lodge and indeed I have done.

Dad has been in Milford for 2 years now and I have nothing but praise for the care and support that he receives. It has improved dad's quality of life and we have great peace of mind knowing that he is safe and well, well fed and warm as winter approaches.

Milford Lodge is a happy place. There are plenty of activities for those who wish to participate. Residents have a choice of areas to sit in, including a light and airy orangery. The staff have bent over backwards to meet my sisters emotional, physical, social and dietary needs.

Care Homes have been getting a bad press of late but I have nothing but praise for Milford Lodge and their staff. My mother has been suffering from dementia for a while and she was living on her own but the time had come after several falls at home to find a care home for her. We visited several homes
in the Hitchin area but most of them seemed pretty depressing. As soon as we stepped into Milford Lodge we knew this was the one. It is clean and secure and the staff are very friendly. I know looking after people with dementia can’t be easy but Mum had a happy 18 months before she passed away and I’m glad she was in their hands.

Milford Lodge is generally well managed and the staff are approachable and friendly. The home is always spotlessly clean and smells nice and fresh.

Generally, the carers are kind and helpful, although they can be a little stressed at night when staff numbers are lower and demands from the residents

can, sometimes, be more demanding.
The food is satisfactory but the menu could be more varied and the overall quality could be improved.

My father in law moved here 3 months ago and we cannot believe how well he has settled in. He is extremely happy. The staff are wonderful and he hasn't got a bad word to say about anyone or anything at the home. He gets involved in activities and goes on the planned trips. We could not be happier with
how this home has transformed his life.

My dad arrived here very confused and disorientated. The staff have been amazing, he is quite grumpy at times but they always deal with him with care and compassion. The home is pretty and homely and the food is excellent and home cooked. Friends that have visited my dad with me have said it's not like
a home, it's more like you are popping into actual person's house. I would definitely recommend Milford Lodge.

My mother went to Milford Lodge respite care until she permanently moved into the home last July 2015. Prior to being in Milford Lodge my mother was in sheltered housing with myself as her primary carer. She (my mother) suffers from severe anxiety and every day was an uphill struggle for both her and
me. Being in Milford Lodge has removed this issue and life is so much better for her and me and my brother and sister. The staff understand mum and they look after her so well and everything is done with dignity, respect and humour. I cannot think of a better place for my mother at this point in her life.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.906)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.906) out of 10 for Milford Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.806 for Milford Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (59 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.806

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.1 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Milford Lodge is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 60 registered maximum number of service users is 12. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 12 = 0.5

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
