Dad moved into Abney Hall three weeks ago and he is very comfortable in his lovely ensuite room. We had worried about him for a long time and to have the peace of mind we now have is a great relief. Like most of us, as we get older and really need help, it’s very hard to accept the loss of independence,
so Dad had fought to stay in his home. Finally after frequent hospital admissions he needed 24 hour nursing care. Abney Court is an absolute gem as the staff, the hotel style decor and attention to detail make it a care home with the icing on the cake. Speaking of which fresh cakes and quality hot drinks are available all day to residents and visitors. Sadly Dad is not well enough to take advantage of all the facilities and entertainment which is offered, but many residents are. I met a very chirpy lady today who was looking forward to getting her hair done in the salon today. If you’re looking for a special care home this will probably tick all the boxes.

My mother has lived independently until she was almost 100. She's found it very difficult to accept that she needs support and a care environment that gives her that support. We've been very lucky to find Abney Court and have found all the staff to be understanding and very supportive of my mother's
needs. This is despite the fact that she can be difficult and still think she could manage to live independently. The whole of our family cannot think of a better place for her to live comfortably for the rest of the time she has. It would be wonderful if, over time, she comes to accept her position.

My mother has now been a resident at Abney Court for over two years. The whole environment - her room, food and activities are of the highest standard I've come across anywhere. The special events are great fun for residents, families, friends and staff and are much appreciated. The staff know my mum
well, treat her with great dignity and respect her independence - encouraging her to make her own choices. They're very vigilant in regards to her health and show genuine care for her. The staff see Abney Court as my mum's home now and are very willing to go the extra mile to help her feel this to be so.

A safe and friendly environment. The building is modern, warm and welcoming and set in the beautiful grounds of Abney Hall. The rooms are comfortable and can be made more homely with the addition of photos, paintings and well loved furniture. The ensuite bathroom and shower facilities are excellent.
There are plenty of activities for those who want to take part and there is a social cafe where residents can meet, and guests can get coffee and cake.
The staff are friendly and genuinely know the residents. They can answer any concerns relatives may have and take the well being of residents very seriously.

Abney Court is a highly professional Care Home for the elderly.


It is clearly run very professionally, with a focus on the Well Being of the residents. The Staff are welcoming, helpful and try to accommodate the needs of the Residents / Family Members. I have been particularly impressed with how

they have access/regular visits by Doctor/GP to ensure that any issues are identified and/or addressed as needed.


The Staff are friendly and responsive to Residents needs.

I was looking for somewhere really nice and also closer to my home to place my female cousin, who lived some 65 miles away.
I had visited several homes, which were either of a very poor quality or only mediocre at best.
I then visited Abney Court, and from the first moment that I walked through the
door, I just knew that it was exactly the kind of place that I had been searching for.
It is a very nice purpose built place in a lovely setting, but what really makes it is its super staff, who really go that extra mile.
It is a home that is professionally run and whilst it is not the cheapest home, it is worth every penny.
My wife and I always love to visit, as this home really would take some beating.
I would highly recommend this home and is a credit to the staff who work extremely hard, to make it the lovely place that it is.

The care provided to my family member has been to a high standard. The room is extremely comfortable and well maintained and the activities are enjoyed and appreciated. There is a good variety of food and it is to a good standard.

From the moment of entering there is a welcoming atmosphere. The home is beautifully decorated and furnished. There is never a staff shortage. All grades of staff know the residents by name. I am impressed with the daily activity schedule, carefully planned to meet the differing needs of residents.
Residents are treated with respect, kindness and understanding. The daily menu is so impressive. Full marks to the chef and team. Staff "go that extra mile" to help residents.

I really appreciate that the staff arrange for me to have lunch with my dad on our own when I visit. It is small touches like this which are so important. The only issue is that items get lots very easily - it would be great if the home could find a way to support with this.

We always find that it’s the smallest things that make the biggest difference. We are sorry to hear that your dad’s items get lost. On the dementia suite, we encourage residents to have the freedom to walk around which is when items can be misplaced. We try our utmost to prevent this from happening by labelling laundry and observing where residents are walking about. Excellent care home. Staff extremely caring. They go out of their way to treat my mum as an individual with kindness and dignity. They all appear to be very fond of my mum and she, in turn, seems fond of them.

My mother has been in the care home for almost a year now.
She is very well looked after and cared for, which gives the family a lot of reassurance.
It is a welcoming environment that makes people want to come and visit as they can sit in the cafe or the garden, and enjoy the wonderful homemade cakes,
rather than sitting with mum in her bedroom or a communal lounge.
The carers are wonderful with mum, always showing care and compassion.

I cannot fault Abney Court and the care my elderly mother receives. From first stepping into the home, I knew that my mum would be content here even though she'd always rejected any mention of "care". The atmosphere is more like a five-star hotel, very modern and "boutique" but managing to remain "homely"
and welcoming at the same time. The building is full of light and is very well designed. My mum has a downstairs room with a lovely patio overlooking the landscaped gardens and she loves to sit and sunbathe on sunny days. To quote my mother, "The staff are all lovely and I've only ever met nice people here." Mum is treated with dignity and respect at all times and everyone knows her name. The Care Team are amazing and always have a laugh and a joke with her when they pass and the Activity Team work so hard to create a fun and stimulating environment for all the residents. My mum has made some lovely friends here and she loves socialising with them over meals and sharing some banter!

Abney Court is a lovely care home, my Mother has been made to feel very comfortable there. The general feeling is more of a luxury hotel than a care facility. The staff are friendly and engaging and very polite. Her room is bright and welcoming with doors onto her own little patio. The food is excellent,
as I have eaten there with my Mother as a guest. It is a pleasure to visit her and I always leave happy that I know she is in the best place.

It is always a difficult choice finding somewhere for a parent to live when they cannot look after themselves safely any more. All the staff at Abney Court are caring, compassionate and unfailingly cheerful. They offer support to both my mother and us, the family, and provide excellent care - emotional,

Job Title: Home Manager

I have 14 years of experience in adult social care and children's services.


I’ve worked hard through the years to gain skills and knowledge in many areas of health and social care for adults and children, and I have progressed through numerous roles over the years. Most recently, I achieved a registered manager’s role.


In this role, my focus is on ensuring we provide quality care and that residents and their families are happy. You need to have patience, good communication and listening skills and empathy. I love communicating with residents, their families and my colleagues. Every day I feel inspired to work alongside my team to provide good standards of care.


Knowing that we provide a positive environment and good quality of life for residents makes me proud in my role.
