The entire Cavell 'team', both care and administration, have worked both sensitively and professionally in helping my father to settle into his new situation and surroundings. At the same time, they have remained respectful of and flexible towards the feelings of his close family and friends. Supportive
all round, I'd say.

This home is first class, more like a top hotel. My friend's room was large, bright and well furnished, including a large TV, and an excellent en-suite which is the norm for all the rooms. There are telephone points in all the rooms which enable residents to have their own landline if they wish
which is especially useful.
The dining room is lovely with well-set tables and the menu is excellent.
The lounge has comfy sofas and armchairs. But one of the nicest facilities is the coffee lounge, where residents and visitors can help themselves to a variety of teas and coffees or soft drinks and freshly made cakes. This is a lovely place to meet with friends, family or other residents or just read the newspapers which are supplied.
Finally and most importantly are the friendly, caring staff who go out of their way to make residents happy and well cared for and the nursing assistants are great. I visited several homes, but Cavell Court was by far the best.

My aunt was in this care home for five weeks for 'End of Life Care'. My main issue with my aunt's care was that about 10 days before her passing we, as a family, were told not to give my Aunt any fluids as her reflux had stopped working and therefore any fluid intake would go straight into her lung.
I found that there is a fluid thickening agent that can be added to any fluid it then bypasses the lung. When asking the manager he replied, "never heard of such a thing"! This agent is listed on the sheets the carers fill in daily and on my aunt's sheets it was marked 'none given'. This is appalling that patients are being denied this in the last weeks of their life.


On the day my aunt passed away we rang to ask if she had been certified by a GP, the Manager replied "I don't know" but then went on to say that ''she had left the building". What a flippant attitude to take, he could have at least worded the situation better by at least saying that the undertakers had been to collect her body.

The staff are extremely caring and helpful, clean, bright rooms, good choice and quality of food, a variety of entertainment and individuality considered at all times.
Administration staff very approachable and knowledgeable. Highly recommended for a care and nursing home.
I applied for end of
life care for my sick father, the administration staff could not have been more helpful, unfortunately dad passed away before he could be moved but I had chosen Cavell Court on the recommendation from a residents son. My survey is written on experiences shared by him and from my visits to his mother. I am sure I would have felt confident that dad would have been cared for with respect in his final days at Cavell Court, should it have been possible.

We are spending a pleasant time here for respite care. We are very comfortable and well looked after by caring, patient and kind staff who are very willing and helpful. I, personally, am enjoying the break from the routine of caring for my husband who has dementia, and am already beginning to feel
more relaxed and rested. It is good just being lazy and knowing my husband is being taken care of.

As an old nurse from the 1940s (there are no more, more critical than they!) I found my 10-day stay at Cavell Court was excellent. I could not find one fault!
The care shown brought much happiness to residents and their friends.
This beautiful new building is a good place to be in.

My mother suffered a major stroke in May 2011 which left her in a wheelchair and unable to communicate. She can often get frustrated and can easily become very distressed if her needs are not attended to promptly. In November 2016, I felt unable to cope with her sadly deteriorating health, so made the
difficult decision to move her into full-time care. The home is beautifully decorated, but the most compelling reason for her coming to live here is the wonderful staff who make her feel special and loved. I have no concerns leaving my precious mother in their loving care. All staff are kind, friendly and approachable and always make time to talk and take on board any concerns I may have. She is on the nursing floor due to her high dependency and I commend the team there for their compassion, professionalism and cheerfulness despite the many challenges that come with caring for the most disabled and end of life residents who live there. It is a calm and happy place to visit.

My ex-husband was suffering from bipolar, diabetes and vascular dementia. He had a fear of spending his last few years in care, so the family managed to support him in his own home lately with 24 hour care.
By the middle of February 2017 after innumerable short stays in hospital, we arranged for him
to become a resident at Cavell Court.
From the initial enquiry, the whole process was conducted with courteous professionalism. The transfer from hospital to Cavell Court, at least on Cavell Court's part, was efficient and considerate. The staff made every effort to make the process comfortable and stress free.
His fears and ours were immediately dispelled as he settled into his tastefully decorated room.
The staff were professional, caring and obliging. His comforts were fully met in terms of food, attention and consideration.
Our confidence in the provisions made grew with each visit. If only we had made the change earlier, he would have fully enjoyed this lovely environment.

Our cousin has dementia and when she was diagnosed 18 months or so ago, she made the choice to move into a home.
We are very happy with the home and the way things have been dealt with.
She came from hospital after breaking her arm with her watch but it has since gone missing. They also had to cut
off a ring from her finger, but we have that in our possession.
Our cousin likes to keep to herself and doesn't socialise that much, although the staff do try their best to get her to mix with other residents on occasions.

My Father resided in Cavell Court for 6 weeks before he sadly passed away in March. The opinion of Cavell Court is very mixed. Firstly it's incredibly expensive for what is effectively a Travelodge with 24-hour care. Some of the individual staff were very pleasant and very caring, but the concept of
ABC (Activity Based Care) was not apparent at all. Sure there was the occasional activity in the afternoon, but residents were not exactly encouraged to take part. The coffee shop is novel, but often the cakes had run out by lunchtime (often eaten by the staff). There are hardly any seats in the café, and on one visit a member of staff was spread out across one table for four and didn't offer to make space for our family. The food looks average to poor. When my Father died, not one member of staff came to the funeral and the Care home did not even send a card. This is POOR! Cavell Court felt more like a factory than a home which really cared. A caveat though: some staff really were lovely!!!

Although we also understand that you have some concerns and would like to assure you that we take these very seriously. The café at Cavell Court is a busy and vibrant place, where residents, family and friends and visitors from the community can come together. We have seating for approximately 24 people, which at most times of the day is ample for those using the facilities. We encourage companionship amongst the team and residents, and you can often find them enjoying the space together. We try to ensure that refreshments are replenished frequently throughout the day, but there may indeed be busier times. With regards to activities within the home, the team support residents to continue with their own hobbies and interests, with both group and individual activities. Our lifestyle team strive to provide a variety of daily activities that everyone can enjoy and they are always keen for feedback or requests. Where possible and when management are made aware of any resident’s funeral arrangements, a member of our team will attend on behalf of Cavell Court and we apologise that in this instance there has been a miscommunication. The home manager will be in contact with you to address this and any further comments you may have.

Job Title: Home Manager

I qualified as a Nurse in Portugal in 2010, and my first care job in the UK was for Care UK.


I left after five years to progress my career, but I decided to return because I believe in Care UK’s values and commitment to caring for residents.


Care UK is the best place I have ever worked. The support provided to colleagues is fantastic. Providing care is about being passionate and committed. As Home Manager, I believe it’s important to listen to and support residents, relatives and colleagues in the home on a day-to-day basis. I work hard to make a difference in their lives.


The safety and wellbeing of the residents living at Cavell Court of the utmost importance to me, and ensuring all procedures are followed is an important part of my role. My favourite part of the day is walking around the home every morning to talk to each resident and team member.


When I’m not working, I love to spend time with my family. I enjoy time in the garden and do DIY at home.
