I visit regularly, and I'm always more than satisfied with the standard of cleanliness and hygiene. The care home is an older building with a lot of character but is well maintained and has light and bright communal areas.
The management and staff work hard and genuinely do care about the residents.

My 96-year-old father was a St Judes' resident for three years. During that time, he suffered from Alzheimer's, which became progressively worse until he passed in March 2022. Throughout his time at St Jude's, my dad received excellent care. The staff are truly caring professionals who went out of their
way to make my dad a part of the St Judes family while ensuring that he received the medical and physical support he needed. Moreover, their empathy and professionalism did not waiver when my dad - who was a kind, widely loved man - became difficult owing to his condition. The wonderful support he received was especially valuable towards the end of my dad's life when his physical and mental condition deteriorated. He became extremely agitated when admitted to the hospital with pneumonia, but his mood transformed when he returned to St Jude, which he regarded as his home. My family and I will always be grateful to St Jude's for helping my dad to pass peacefully and painlessly.

My 96-year-old father was a resident for over 2 years, he was extremely happy and loved the staff, and he was extremely well cared for. St Jude had a real family feel and he always felt at home there. The food was always of a high standard. Until Covid-19 restrictions visiting was never a problem and
the staff were always welcoming. In the last couple of months of his life, I was able to spend a significant amount of time at his bedside and I was able to see firsthand just how caring and hardworking the carers were. I cannot fault St Jude Care Home and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for anyone requiring care during the final years of their life.

Myself and my family are astounded by the love, care, respect and compassion that the staff treated my Grandad with. Nothing was ever to much trouble and the care was second to none. The care my Grandad and other residents were 110%. I could not have asked for a better place for my Grandad to live out
the rest of his life. It was hard when it came to finding a home for our precious special Grandad but as soon as I set foot in the place I was greeted with such warmth and care and the cleanliness of the home I knew this was the place for him to be. Grandad spent 2 and a half happy years at the home and there was always something going on and knew how to make the residents feel special and happy. The food was always fresh and homemade (I always wanted to stay). Our family are forever grateful for St Jude and their staff and would recommend them to anyone and everyone. The staff here became like family to us and very well-loved by ourselves and my Grandad. What a wonderful place to live.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.692)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.692) out of 10 for Saint Jude Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.792 for Saint Jude Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (87 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.792

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Saint Jude Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 22 registered maximum number of service users is 4.4, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Jennifer took ownership of Saint Jude Care Home with her husband Greg in 2014. Since then they have extended the home from 17 to 22 bedrooms and built a reputation for delivering high standards of care.

Being a family-run business means Saint Jude's can offer a very personal service tailored not only to the residents but to their families too.

'We treat our residents as an extension of our own family and families feel reassured with this approach. Sometimes people are surprised to find us so involved with the business from hosting events, assisting with day-to-day running and admissions etc, but we wouldn't have it any other way. We like to get to know all of our families and friends on a personal level and that way we get to build their trust and enable them to feel they can approach us at any time. They soon become good friends and those lasting relationships are important to us.'

'We love to host events and that's when we really demonstrate our teamwork as a family. We all get involved in planning, decorating, entertainment and catering. Even our children help out running the raffles and our dog Monty loves to pop in too!'
