My mother has been so happy here and been treated with such kindness at all times. Although these times have been very difficult; my mother has been constantly been monitored for her health and well being. I thank all the staff for everything they have done in keeping my mother well and happy - beyond
their jobs.

Reply from Deborah Yadev, Interim Marketing Manager at Dukeminster Court

Good afternoon and thank you for the review, we are happy to know we are able to support your mother during these times. I will extend the kind comments to the team, have a lovely day!

I regularly visit my sister-in-law every 2 weeks and find her well cared for, clean and tidy and alert. The staff, have without exception, been polite and helpful; they are kind in their care of residents and understanding their needs. I have been visiting for the past 4 years and am now known and welcomed.
Refreshments (tea/coffee) are always available. My sister-in-law seems content, she is unable to communicate much to other residents because of her hearing/sight problems but appreciates company at meals, the care she receives and monthly church services.

Although difficult seeing Mum through a screen, one visit was well organised. PPE available and staff were available to support Mum.

The care given to my mother has been excellent. My mother is nearly deaf, nearly blind and has advanced Alzheimer's. Staff are very kind and patient with her. She is always clean and as happy as she can be given her circumstances. The home has been open for garden visits during the lockdown, and staff
help me to try and communicate with her (although she has never acknowledged my presence)! I look forward to being able to hold her hand and kiss her once more!

Season's greetings to yourself, your mother and the family. Thank you for the lovely review, we are very proud of all of our care homes and the wonderful staff. There has been lots of above and beyond during this period to ensure our residents remain safe and well looked after. Patience is a trait not many hold but as a specialist dementia home, the staff here are trained to support persons living with dementia. Your mother is a lovely woman and we continue to enjoy our daily interactions with her. Have a lovely day.

Mum is unable to help herself nowadays, but she is cared for well even though she makes life difficult for the carers. They treated her with dignity and patience even though she rarely shows signs of being grateful. I am phoned and kept in the loop with any problems, although, I am unable to do much
to assist. At lockdown visits, a carer often sits with her to pass on my conversations. Due to her poor sight and hearing and that fact that she often refuses to wear hearing aids, meetings are very difficult.

Reply from Deborah Yadev, Interim Marketing Manager at Dukeminster Court

Thank you for the honest feedback, we are trying our best to ensure your mother enjoys the highest quality of life given her setbacks, she is a lovely woman and the care team enjoy their time with her. These are of course unprecedented times and we understand your upset of not always meeting her as often as you would like but, we are all hoping for better times ahead. Thank you once again and take care.

Brilliant help from all of the team. One member of staff is always so accommodating in our garden visits, remember everyone's drinks and is so gentle and personable with the resident. Pleased to see all the Xmas decorations go up to try and keep spirits high in the grim current climate. Extra special
shout-out to two other members of staff who always go above and beyond to make her life as lovely as possible.

A wonderful home.
Staff go above and beyond their normal duties.
This year has been a real test for all staff, but they have excelled in everything they have had to do.

From the time of my visit to the time of leaving from seeing my brother in the care home, every member of staff that I encounter have a friendly attitude and courteous behaviour. My brother is looked after very well, although he can be somewhat cantankerous at times, but this does not put his carers
off for one moment.
His room is kept very clean at all times and the food provided is varied and of good quality.
There are various forms of entertainment to keep the residents occupied, including participation games.

The care and compassion my mother received before her death in May 2018 as exceptional.
Even our family who visited were treated so thoughtfully and caring. It helped make mum's final days a calming and much more accepting experience.
I couldn't recommend Dukeminster more highly, having seen three
years of excellent care given to our mum.

The care that my Mum receives is great and as a family, my brother and I feel fully involved with Mum's care. The only problem is staffing at times. I feel sorry for the carers as they are often stretched especially in the mornings. Saying that they always do their best.

Dukeminster Court and its carers were a life saver. Not only have they given my dad a safe environment to call home, I know that all his needs are being met with great understanding and he is an individual. There is a feeling of warmth and live not only for dad and all the residents but for us relatives
too.

Dukeminster Court was a place of kindness, caring, empathy and the most wonderful members of staff. They were always ready to listen to any comments I made, and any minor problems we may have had were taken care of very quickly. My mother-in-law was in the home for very different reasons to which most
people are there, as she had been suffering from very severe depression for 3 years, two of which required hospitalisation. She went to Dukeminster on the advice of her Consultant, and the staff there have helped her to recover enough to be able to go and visit her daughter in New Zealand, and begin to live an independent life again. I cannot recommend them and thank them enough for everything they did. She had a hip replacement whilst a resident at Dukeminster, and their care for her thereafter was fantastic.

Current Review Score: 8.5 (8.500)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.5 (8.500) out of 10 for Dukeminster Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.2 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.333 for Dukeminster Court is calculated as follows: ( (48 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.333

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.167 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Dukeminster Court is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 75 registered maximum number of service users is 15. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 15 = 0.467

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
