My brother,aged 81,with cerebral palsy and several complex needs,was a resident at Hazelwell for nearly two years.He sadly died ,in Feb, from an internal bleed.
I,and the family,were so pleased that we found Hazelwell for him for his final years.
The care he has had,both for his health and wellbeing,has
been excellent.
The Carers have been so good with him, providing care, support and friendship. Also,many activities which he has enjoyed - games,talks,music etc.
The food has been excellent,lots of tea breaks,too,in between mealtimes!
All the staff have been lovely-both to my brother,and always to me,and to family and friends, when we visited.We have been made to feel welcome and involved with staff and other residents.
Hazelwell has a warm and homely atmosphere generally.I would recommend it to anyone who requires a secure and loving environment for a loved one.

Very nice place, residents look well taken care off. The environment is welcoming, homely and very clean.
Residents are engaged and active. I am very reassured to know my aunt is staying here. Staff is helpful and kind.

The staff team and Management have been excellent with my mother and made her last days/weeks with end of life comfortable ensuring respect, care and consideration. I couldn't have asked for more, a home from home. The co-ordination of the team is commendable, especially in our time of need for all
the family. I would not hesitate to recommend Hazelwell as a home for their care and compassion. Although a resident for a short time this made a world of difference in her last weeks.

Don't go here for nursing care. A very disappointing respite experience, poor care and inadequate staffing. Management had been reassuring in advance, confident that they could meet my relative's nursing needs, but the reality was very different. We had hoped for rehab support during respite, but a
poor standard of nursing left her immobile, unable to even move in bed - and the nurses seemed to think this was fine. If it had not needed an ambulance to move her, she would have left after 2 days. She came out in much worse condition than she went in, had caught a UTI, and lost a lot of weight. The home's decisions around handling some acute symptoms seemed to surprise both paramedics and a GP. Care was often patronising, nursing seemed disorganised (e.g. missed meds until mum asked about them), and long waits (sometimes hours) for support were common. She wasn't offered any activities. On the plus side, a few of the care staff were friendly and competent. The Wi-Fi was fine.

When my Aunt ( a widow with no children) needed more and more support with her dementia/Alzheimer's and the combined help of family and care workers wasn't enough, it was time to look at 24-hour care. We visited other homes but this one felt so inviting and offered everything she needed. After a respite
visit, she was happy to move in full-time. She is sociable and thoroughly enjoys the activities programme. The staff are friendly, approachable, respectful and caring. The meals and wine are good and another opportunity to socialise. Auntie has lived in Hazelwell for over a year now and is very happy there which is hugely reassuring for us. In fact, her sister and myself only hope when our time comes that we will be able to spend our last days in Hazelwell too.

Throughout the month of December, the Care Home team have been very busy with the organisation of events and there has been a full timetable. The residents have all been entertained by a number of visiting local groups and performances and the Care Home has been beautifully decorated for Christmas.
There has been a warm and friendly Christmas atmosphere and the candlelit Christmas carols evening in particular, was a very special event. The Care Staff have had a lot of events that may have compromised their routines but they have all been wonderful.
Also the December Saturday 'chat' groups have all been about Christmas traditions past and present and the residents have been able to chat about and share memories of past Christmases A lot of work and research goes into putting together the chatterday group meetings and they have been very successful throughout the year in bringing together residents to talk, to share their experiences and to reminisce.

My dad was admitted in June 2024 for nursing care, initially for 3 weeks respite care during a house move. This then became permanent when his health deteriorated, a condition that the nursing team identified almost straight after admittance (after having at-home care for 6 months). We had no hesitation
in making Hazelwell our permanent choice when the need became permanent. The standard of nursing care is excellent and the staff are all superb - including the support, management and kitchen staff. All are so supportive, friendly, respectful and compassionate. This means so much to us as Dad's family. For him. And for us. There is always someone on hand to attend his needs, day and night, which is very comforting for us. They are very proactive about introducing other medical professionals as and when they identify a need. We are all allowed to spend as much time as we want with Dad, day or night, even having Xmas dinner with him in his room. I cannot recommend Hazelwell enough.

My mum is a resident at The Hazelwell and she receives excellent care from all members of the management and staff. She is treated "as a person" with dignity and respect. My mum has a lovely room overlooking the garden and she is very happy there. The staff have become more like friends to Mum and our
family. The menu is varied and Mum very much enjoys her meals. The entertainment programme is fantastic and Mum joins in with most things, mainly due to the staff taking the time to collect her from her room. There is a hairdresser on site and Mum has her hair done every week (looks great). Again, the hairdresser treats Mum with dignity and respect and has become a friend. I would like to thank the management, all the staff and hairdresser for the care and kindness they have shown towards Mum. I would have no hesitation in recommending Hazelwell to anyone looking into residential care.

Caring staff. Good range of activities planned daily for Christmas period to include relatives. Staff always friendly and welcoming to relatives. Residents treated with kindness and respect.
Downside is low staff numbers can mean residents left sitting in wheelchairs for extended periods of time which
cause discomfort.

Poor care and lack of dignity shown to our relative. Hazelwell states "Our elderly care services include Residential Care, Nursing Care, Dementia Care, Respite Care, and Palliative Care, and are always enhanced with a daily wellbeing programme tailored to our resident's interests and preferences so
that each resident gets the care and support they deserve." At best Hazelwell provide residential and minimal nursing care. Inadequate staffing levels to provide proper care and support. If you requires nursing care, this is not the home for you.

My mum was a resident at Hazelwell receiving end-of-life care. The staff are tremendous, always polite, always cheerful and nothing was ever too much trouble for them. The compassion and warmth shown to Mum's family during regular visits and at the end of her life was exceptional.
The home is absolutely
immaculately maintained and is a most friendly, welcoming place.
I cannot recommend Hazelwell highly enough, they are what should be the benchmark of care/nursing homes.

My mother passed away at The Hazelwell Care Home in March of this year.
The care and compassion shown to my mum in the final stages of her life was exemplary. A similar level of care and support was shown to my mum's family that were present with her in the final stage of her life.

Dad went to Hazelwell for 3 weeks of respite in November 2023, he was determined to come out, but the respite served its purpose - we wanted him to realise that care homes aren’t the terrible places that he had in his mind, therefore when - after Christmas his dementia deteriorated substantially, he
wasn’t fearful about returning to Hazelwell on a permanent basis. He was fairly immobile by now, and was using walking aids, so this did restrict his movement around the home that he found rather frustrating having been a very active man. From January to April of this year, he was looked after with the utmost kindness and respect. The management team are extremely approachable and are quick to respond to queries or concerns that we - as relatives may have. There are too many people to name individually, but every single staff member at Hazwellwell plays their part without exception. Sadly Dad passed and we couldn’t have asked for a better place for him to live out his last months. Thank you.

After my mother passed away, my sister and I 'inherited' a 97-year-old grandmother who was fiercely independent. She had had previous respite stays at two other local care homes but really didn't like the experiences. As such, my sister and I struggled trying to convince her that as her frailty increased,
having extra support immediately on hand was a positive step. Following a hospital admission, Gran took a three-week respite stay at The Hazelwell Care Home and never left. The staff were great, care for Gran first-class and she never stopped saying how good the food was. Visitors were made to feel so very welcome and I could speak to the care staff 24 hours a day with any concerns over Gran's health. Gran was reluctant to join in with some of the activity sessions but we caught her having a jolly giggle in them on quite a few occasions. I can't speak highly enough of how good the year of Gran's stay was for her, from care, food, entertainment, privacy, respect and communication.

In the eight months, or so, that Dad was a resident in The Hazelwell Care Home, both he and the family were treated with respect. His care, even as his health failed, was second to none. The staff and management were exceptional and the atmosphere in the care home was always warm and friendly. Sadly,
Dad passed away, rather unexpectedly in hospital after a short illness, aged 94 years, on 19th December. Even now, The Hazelwell Care Home continue to support.

My father spent ten months at The Hazelwell Care Home and clearly enjoyed the experience and he considered it comparable to a luxury hotel. Dad’s room had views of Wales and outdoor spaces were available on each floor, which he made full use of. He also took full advantage of the numerous activities
and events and of course, the wonderful food. The staff were very supportive to both my father and the wider family as his illness progressed; we are very grateful for their care.

Simon

Simon Paul

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2022

Simon is the Home Manager at the Hazelwell Care Home and brings a wealth of experience having worked in healthcare for over twenty years having started as a Care Assistant in a nursing home. He then completed his nurse training and has worked across a variety of settings within the NHS for around 15 years; from surgical wards to intensive care, via theatre and then as a nurse specialist.


He then returned to care homes in 2019 and held roles of Deputy Manager and Home Manager before joining The Hazelwell. Simon is most passionate about delivering high-quality care whilst ensuring that the residents have an environment that is both homely and welcoming for their friends and families.

Theo Anum

Job Title: Clinical Lead

Joined: 2023

Theo is an enthusiastic and dedicated Acting Clinical Lead who has recently re-joined the team at The Hazelwell after a period of time working in a large care home in Liverpool.


Having started his nursing home career at The Hazelwell, Theo was keen to return to the home in a senior capacity and help shape the development of the home.

Kiya Malcolm

Job Title: Home Aministrator

Joined: 2022

Kiya is our Home Administrator and is the point of contact for all administrative tasks at the home.


She joined the home with a wealth of experience in business admin and started as our receptionist before being promoted within the home to Home Admin.

Helen Barrington

Job Title: Home Trainer and Senior Care Assistant

Joined: 2017

Helen has been with The Hazelwell since 2017, Helen works as a Senior Care Assistant and the Home Trainer role. Helen is responsible for inducting new team members into The Hazelwell and ensuring our team are trained and competent. Helen can be relied on to implement new training sessions and the staff really enjoy her training. During her spare time, Helen loves to spend time with her family and relaxing.

Graham Clarke

Job Title: Maintenance Manager

Joined: 2016

Graham has been our maintenance manager since 2016, Graham is responsible for all the maintenance within the home, ensuring our compliance and maintaining our lovely home for our residents. Graham goes over and above to make a difference to our residents’ homecoming on his days off and getting called out during the evening if things need fixing. Graham enjoys when he does have days off to get away in his caravan.

Job Title: Head Chef

Joined: 2022

I have been a chef for over 25 years, I started out as a trainee chef in a large hotel in the lake district working my way up to head chef and running the kitchen for 10 years before relocating to the Wirral where I worked at the devon doorway for 6 years working my way up to head chef for the last 12 months.


In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my wife and young daughter and I also enjoy fishing and walking!
