My mother has been at Hazelwell for approximately 18 months and has been well cared for during this time. All the staff treat the residents with care and attention and this was particularly evident to me during the final days of my mother's life. There was genuine emotion coupled with professionalism
during her final weeks and a real sense of teamwork.

My mother-in-law lived here for 18 months and was cared for very well and encouraged to retain her independence. However, in her last week of life when we were constantly in the home, we realised quite how caring and professional all the staff are. They could not have been more kind and helpful, both
to her and to us. They all had her best wishes at heart and we came to see what a happy family atmosphere there is there.

My mother has been a resident for 18 months and receives excellent care from all the staff. Unfortunately, she became terminally ill and passed away last week. During the vigil, the staff were excellent in their caring for my mother and emotional support for the family. My mother couldn't have had better
care. The staff were dedicated to their roles.

Having visited my friends 97-year-old mother on at least five occasions at different times of the day, during her two-week stay, I am rather disappointed with the lack of attention to the individual buzzer service. Each time I visited the buzzers and phones went unanswered for very long periods. I phoned
myself on four occasions only to be cut off twice and unanswered twice having left it to ring for thirty-five times!! This is an expensive home who should be providing enough staff to respond to the residents who require attention. They do provide plenty of activities and the food standard seemed good but the individual attention, in my opinion, was poor in many ways. The staff did seem friendly. I went there one afternoon and no-one had been in to make her bed, another of her visitors did it for her, not acceptable. I have only given satisfactory in some cases as I can't give a definite, honest answer....little things being neglected, maybe because of the lack of staff on duty.

I was not aware of these issues, so unfortunately not able to investigate them at the time. We have introduced a new cordless phone system so that the seniors and nurses have a phone on them at all times. This issue has also been raised with staff to make sure they are aware of the importance of answering calls. We do have enough staff, this is always a priority however, there are occasions when we are let down by last-minute sickness or the agencies not being able to cover. We also have times when one of our residents is unwell and their care is the priority. I am glad the activities and food where good this is important to us. As you can see from our reviews in general we get it right most of the time, and I am sorry on this occasion we did not meet expectations.

The atmosphere is always friendly and the staff are friendly and welcoming.
The meals are varied and good and are served either in the room or in the dining room. Everyone seems prepared to go the extra mile to make it a home from home.

Mum was admitted from hospital as a nursing resident following an infection that would not go away. She has been looked after with great sympathy and attention. The staff could not have been more caring or more helpful to her family. She has been made extremely comfortable and has wanted for nothing.
We are extremely grateful to The Hazelwell for all you have done.

You could not wish for a more genuine, caring and befitting place for your loved ones.
My father was there for 3 months following a horrendous 3-month ordeal in hospital.
During his stay, he regained his thirst for life, made many friends and completely defied the hospital by making sound medical
progress.
We definitely intend to use Hazelwell for respite in the future.

Having been failed with full-time care in the home, Hazelwell was our chosen place for a very vulnerable family friend.
The quality of service from all members from admin to carers and housekeeping is only a glimpse into this dedicated home for elderly people, wishing to be cared for with kindness
and dignity at all times.
The food and service of such are of the best quality.
Visitors are made welcome along with children and family pets. Activities and cinema room plus outings made this an amazing home to spend your twilight years.

The Hazelwell offers a home from home experience. The staff are professional, caring, respectful and provide the resident with a new family.
I couldn't ask for more for the care of my aunt.
The staff treat us as friends and allow us to behave as if it was my aunt's house. The dog and children are
allowed to visit and we can attend for lunches.
The place is truly remarkable and I hope that one day I will be in a position to stay myself for the next stage of my life.

Having fallen and cracked my spine and ribs, I was treated in the hospital and then transferred into first class care at Hazelwell for 4.5 weeks. My private bedroom with full services, TV, Radio and storage for personal goods and after several days Helped by kind and caring staff to explore and use
the facilities - library, cinema, tearooms, restaurant and sitting in the garden and my prepaid daily newspaper was delivered. The breakfast, lunch and dinner service was excellent as was the discreet personal health and hygiene services. My improved mobility was rewarded with local trips with staff, was my return home in the centre of Hazelwell.

2 weeks recuperation after 10 days hospital for bowel surgery. I have very much appreciated the quiet and the ability to sleep after the noise in hospital. The home is comfortable, well maintained and apart from over crowding in the dining room, particularly at lunch time, very satisfactory. The
plumbing is modern and rather confusing and should be explained to new residents.

My husband was admitted in December 2016 with terminal brain tumours, but only for two days respite. He deteriorated quickly and it was deemed in his best interest to remain until he passed away. The care my husband received involved administering medication, personal care, checking for complications,
changing as my husband's condition changed. The professional staff dealt with all the medical changes throughout, taking the stress away from the family. Throughout the twelve days, the staff treated my husband with the utmost care and respect. They dealt with all the intimacies, emotional and practical aspects of my husband's illness with great thoughtfulness and professionalism and I cannot recommend them enough.

Simon Paul

Job Title: Home Manager

Simon is the Home Manager at the Hazelwell Care Home and brings a wealth of experience having worked in healthcare for over twenty years having started as a Care Assistant in a nursing home. He then completed his nurse training and has worked across a variety of settings within the NHS for around 15 years; from surgical wards to intensive care, via theatre and then as a nurse specialist.

He then returned to care homes in 2019 and held roles of Deputy Manager and Home Manager before joining The Hazelwell. Simon is most passionate about delivering high-quality care whilst ensuring that the residents have an environment that is both homely and welcoming for their friends and families.
