Hartford Court is a purpose-built care home set right in the heart of Portsmouth within the Guardian’s Gate housing development adjacent to St Mary’s hospital and has a team of dedicated, caring and loving staff who support residents and their individual needs.

Hartford Court is spread over two distinct floors that offer different yet complementary care to the people of Portsmouth and surrounding areas. The ground floor offers empowering residential care where every one of their residents have their independence championed and their individual preferences supported.

On the first floor the home has a highly positive dementia specialist floor which incorporates a range of cleverly hidden elements that make living with dementia as positive an experience as possible. Highly-trained and empathetic staff make sure that each and every day their residents are greeted with a smiling face and a respectful demeanour from every member of staff that they encounter. Activities have been designed to be interesting yet meaningful and so give the residents reason to get involved rather than just filling time.

All of the individually designed bedrooms are comfortable, beautifully furnished and complete with a large and spacious wet room. The first floor also enjoys a comfortable terrace from which the residents can enjoy continuous access to the fresh air for relaxation. All rooms come with a flat screen TV and for those residents that wish there is a direct dial telephone.

Residents can socialise in the communal areas or relax in the beautiful gardens along with enjoying all inclusive home cooked meals in the dining room. Hartford Court also benefits from a hairdressing salon, inclusive daily activity schedule including trips out, access to video calling and an all inclusive laundry service.

My mother had been active and independent until she fell ill in December. On discharge from hospital she went into a residential home which did not provide the correct environment for my mother. My mother moved into Hartford Court on 1st June to be nearer me. The ambiance and standard of care was a
breath of fresh air compared to the previous home. My mother was quite ill when she arrived at the home. The staff at Hartford ensured she received medical attention from the local GP and gave her wonderful care. Mom's demeanour has steadily improved. She is rediscovering herself because of the level of thoughtful care received. The place is spotless, has lovely gardens and rooms and the food is very good. Because it is a new home the programme of activities has not been established as yet.

New home. Bright and cheerful. Well appointed. Staff very mindful. Well stained, professional and caring. Time spent with each individual. Very hospitable and welcoming to residents and relatives.
Lovely fresh food served on a daily basis. Good choices displayed on menu. Clean linen tablecloths. Family
welcome to join for lunch or dinner - Sunday lunch excellent. Have seen great improvements in mums overall well-being thanks to the great care. Home from home at last.

Michelle Presdee

Hello and welcome to Hartford Court!


My name is Michelle Presdee and I became the General Manager of Hartford Court in August 2018.


During my career, I have always worked in adult social care. I started as a ‘tea girl’ and then an ‘auxiliary nurse’ in a nursing home. Following my degree and social work qualification, I worked for many years as a social worker, specialising in working with older people. This role involved supported people maintaining their independence, which at times meant supporting people to move into a care home. This gave me insight into how people can flourish, and their life be enhanced by moving into the right care home.

I have also spent twenty years working for the Care Quality Commission as an inspector. This has given me the skills and experience to know Hartford Court is a home which ensures residents are central and will be at the heart of all decisions made. Residents can be assured they will be treated with the core principles of dignity, privacy and respect at all times. All the staff team know and understand Hartford Court is the resident’s home and will ensure all they do encompasses the values people expect in their own home. Hartford Care has, at its heart, the core three values; Care, Comfort and Companionship.

Residents will be supported and encouraged to continue to follow their hobbies and dreams. We will do all we can to ensure residents are safe, comfortable and always have companionship.


I am delighted and proud to be managing Hartford Court. We have a beautiful environment both inside and outside and I look forward to welcoming you and your loved ones soon!
