Fleetwood Heights Care Home is situated in Greetland, within the metropolitan borough of Calderdale, West Yorkshire. The origins of Greetland may trace back to a Roman settlement, potentially named Cambodunum. This stems from the discovery of a Roman alter stone dating back to 208AD, found in 1597 at Top Bank in Greenland. There are a number of landmarks, including Clay House and Calderdale Way to be found in Greetland.

This beautiful home is purpose-built to provide the very best of everything, from the outstanding care, to the beautiful accommodation and delightful gardens, to the high quality, delicious food and enjoyable lifestyle activities.

The dedicated team at Fleetwood Heights is experienced and compassionate, they see each resident as a unique individual, reflecting this throughout their person-centred care. The care team has access to the latest care plan technology and will take time to get to know you, your family and all of your favourite things.

My mum has been a resident at Calderdale Retreat for three years.
It is an excellent modern building with much more space and facilities than I found at any of the other care homes that I have visited.
More importantly, though, the manager and staff are excellent. They are always caring and cheerful
in their dealings with the residents. In order to protect them from covid-19, the manager and several of the staff have even moved into the home.
Thank you to everyone at Calderdale Retreat for looking after my mum so well.

My mother has been a resident for just coming up to a year now. The Manageress and Care Staff at Calderdale Retreat deserve nothing but praise for their care and dedication to all the residents during these challenging last few months. I am updated regularly with mums progress and all the activities
that she is involved in and I have weekly video calls - it really is the most wonderful Care Home with staff who genuinely enjoy what they do.
I would also like to extend my thanks to the Reception Team, Housekeeping Team, Chef’s and Maintenance Team - all of whom are truly dedicated to their work.
I would like to add that I have always been impressed with Calderdale Retreat and would highly recommend this Care Home to anyone looking for the best possible care for their loved one.

I am delighted to have found Calderdale Retreat for my partner and couldn't think of a better place for him to be.
Everybody has been so understanding, supportive and friendly, making us both feel at home and part of 'the family'.
As my partner has Young Onset of Alzheimer's he is still physically
very fit and active. If not engaged, his mind can take him into paranoia and anxiety.
All the staff has embraced this challenge creatively and is involving him in meaningful and uplifting activities and interactions.
I haven't seen my partner as able, happy and content for a long time. He has even found his sense of humour and playfulness again.
The environment is lovingly set up with all the homely touches and offers possibilities for relaxation and activities.
The home provides the highest standards of care, meets all my partner's needs, including his diet and encourages his independence.
The manager's vision has been put into action by the whole team.

My aunt was admitted as an emergency the weekend before Christmas. She was so weak and very confused. Within 6 weeks of good care and good food, she is now walking around unaided, joining in activities and tells me she is very happy.

Met with the deputy manager for the review and update for Dad's care. This was explained very well. I'm very happy with Dad's care at this time.

Mine and my grandad's friend was a resident here a couple of months ago. What a lovely home it is, the staff are so supportive, the atmosphere is very good, the cleanliness is perfect and the bedrooms are set out perfectly. The whole place is just fantastic, he loved it.

I can’t recommend Calderdale Retreat enough, the place, the staff and the manager first class. My Dad was down south when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer and Alzheimer’s and taken into full-time care. I looked into moving him to Yorkshire, I arranged to visit on the 30.11.2018 and I was blown
away by the lovely attitude of the manager and all the staff I met. On speaking to the manager and explaining our complex needs, not only were they more than happy to take Dad but helped in getting Dad moved up and settled in before Christmas, allowing him to be able to spend what could be his last Christmas with his family. Dad has settled in so well, it is a modern nicely decorated furnished home with all the mod cons. The staff are friendly, approachable nice people. The food is lovely freshly cooked food. It’s clean warm and comfortable; they have lots of activities for the residents, Calderdale Retreat is a first class home that treats its residents and their family’s first class. Thanks.

We are pleased that Mum has settled in so well at The Retreat.
The staff are kind and considerate Mum enjoys the chef's meals that are home cooked. The activities are well thought out to include every ability. Nothing has been too much trouble for any of the staff.
The Retreat has an open door policy
to the management.

My grandad just moved in and loves it.
The manager is so nice and helpful and eased the pressure we were under. We all live 120 miles away and this has been a stressful time for us. But everyone at Calderdale Retreat has been brilliant, it's modern and bright, food is good, my grandad likes his food
and has managed to put a bit of weight on.
Grandad has only been here a couple of weeks and looks better already.
Thank you Calderdale Retreat, keep up the good work.

My father moved in very recently and as I live in Birmingham my experiences, up to now, have been difficult. The manager here is fantastic, very professional, he is a good listener and explains things in detail. I feel happy and content knowing my father is receiving such good care. (The manager made
me feel like part of an extended family). The home is very clean and modern, serves good, nutritional food, also lots of different activities my father can take part in.
The receptionist is very helpful and all staff have a lovely smile. The teamwork shows and everyone has time for any questions. My father loves it here so this makes the decision easier. 100% happy.

On our first visit, we found the manager and receptionist to be very helpful with information on how everything was run. We had a tour of the building and was very impressed indeed. The living quarters were spot on! The whole building itself was very clean and well run with different rooms offering
lots of different relaxation i.e. Beach Room, Jimmy's Bar, Hairdressers, etc. Great place, great choice.

My mum, who has dementia, has been a resident since August 2017. I cannot express strongly enough the positive turn-around that has taken place since the manager has started in post at the beginning of 2018. All levels of staff now receive ongoing training to develop their skills and are achieving a
high level of resident orientated individual care, including mental and physical stimulation in the form of varied activities.
Nutritionally the home-cooked meals are plentiful and of a high standard which has encouraged Mum to regain her appetite and enjoy her food again. Calderdale Retreat is a warm, friendly and welcoming care home. It is reassuring for us as a family to know Mum is being well cared for in a safe environment in lovely surroundings by a well lead, kind and caring team of staff.

1) The home itself is relatively new and as such has all the modern facilities. At the same time residents are encouraged to add their own personal possessions to their rooms to make their accommodation homely, and with the bedroom furniture being modern there is a really nice ambience to the rooms
along with the importance of an en-suite bathroom, which provides that all-important requirement of privacy and dignity.

2) The staff are very caring and huge steps have been taken by the management of the care home to continue the development of its staff to meet the ever increasing and constantly changing standards of nursing care required in today's social care environment. I have found the general manager to have a hands-on approach to both the management of the home and staff, and whenever there has been the need to bring something to her attention - a positive response has always been obtained.

My husband has been in this home for the past 10months, the first six months wasn't good. We had five managers in this period. We have a new manager now who is improving the home she has been in six weeks and there is a vast improvement in all aspects of the home and with the patients and last I can
say I am pleased with the home, may it continue.

There has been a remarkable change in the home, and a very positive attitude has been created. The management is now very hands on and this is shown in the new eagerness of the staff, who seem to be enjoying the job more. There is a definite 'buzz' about the place, which I am sure will be taken in by
the residents and relations. Very pleasing and uplifting! Thank you.

I visited my aunt recently at Calderdale Retreat, I was pleasantly surprised to find such a lovely calm atmosphere compared to my last visit. It seemed very obvious the new manager has already had a very positive impact on the home in such a short time.

It was a pleasure being in the home. All the

residents seemed happy and looked clean and presentable. My aunt said she is very happy and had nothing but praise for the new manager.

The new manager introduced herself, she was very friendly and obviously very experienced in her role. I felt very at ease when I left my aunt today knowing she is being well cared for.

I would highly recommend a visit to Calderdale Retreat if you are wanting a home for your loved one.

Current Review Score: 6.3 (6.286)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 6.3 (6.286) out of 10 for Fleetwood Heights Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.2 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.217 for Fleetwood Heights Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) + (9 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 23 Ratings = 3.217

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.069 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Fleetwood Heights Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 72 registered maximum number of service users is 14.4. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 14.4 = 0.069

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
