The home has a very caring feel to it, carers seem to be mostly enjoying their work. They interact and know residents very well. New decorations and set up is fabulous, homely feel.

Have been a resident in Northfields for the last 16 months within which time the business has been bought out by the Wood Group, who are slowly transforming the home for the better. The food and interior alterations are exceptional with more improvements to come. As a resident I look forward to the
future here and highly recommend.

I feel bedding was not changed regularly, hygiene was not up to standard, staff on a evening was very limited. After my uncle passed away phoned to ask for personal belongings. December 2023 picked up, photographs missing. I have phoned nearly every week from December 2023 and feel I have been fobbed
off. No one has ever returned my calls regarding this and told when handed over photographs these would be put into a safe place so they could show my uncle. Now in April 2024 being told they cannot find them. I find this disgusting.

Reply from Paula Newbert, Group Operations and Clinical Director at Northfield Care Centre

I was very saddened to read your review. Meeting hygiene needs is always difficult for residents who will not accept assistance and when staff give unwanted assistance it causes the resident distress. We have often had to support your uncle with washes rather than a shower to minimise the level of distress he experienced. Items do go missing as the residents often can not recall what belongs to whom or where it has been left. Your uncle came to Northfield in March 2020 and due to his changing needs moved 3 times around the home onto different units, I am sure this contributed to losing the photographs and we are sincerely sorry we were unable to find these for you. I accept our communication should have been better. I hope you can take some comfort in knowing that your uncle was a part of our Northfield family, and is remembered fondly. I can remember his first day at Northfield and have been with him throughout his illness progression, he was a truly remarkable man.

On arrival to the home, the receptionist is very welcoming and friendly. The rooms are very spacious and the building is modern, with it only being around seven years old. There is a courtyard in the centre of the building, which with some care would be a lovely feature, but at present is a bit run-down.
The food looks nice, but overall the whole building looks like it needs some redecoration and TLC. Making the communal areas more homely would be nice.

Reply from Paula Newbert, Group Operations and Clinical Director at Northfield Care Centre

Thank you for your feedback. We do have a service plan for redecoration and have our own maintenance team who are currently working on this. We have plans to include a sensory room and are working on giving our communal areas a more homely feel. Some of our lovely residents enjoy gardening and have been working on the garden, supported by staff. I do agree, more work to create a feature in the courtyard would be lovely and we will action this. I will pass on your lovely comments to our receptionist.

I find that a lot of people find the food too bland when I ate in the room, the food came in cold. Not enough choice of food. I think that takeaway should be added or offered to order - to save money they should pay for it themselves. We should have a 'piggy bank' in the dining room to raise money for
Christmas presents - each person makes a donation to just one other resident for a gift. I think we should have a starter introduced to the meals.

Reply from Paula Newbert, Group Operations and Clinical Director at Northfield Care Centre

Thank you very much for your review. At the last residents meeting on the 23.05.23 we took feedback from 14 residents and takeaway food has been added to the menu, this will be provided by the home for you to enjoy. We are looking forward to some themed evenings with some exciting food choices and I hope that you really enjoy this. There is a starter menu available and we will laminate one for you to keep in your bedroom, please let us know if you wish for anything special to be included in the menu and we will ensure that it is available for you. At Christmas time we do accept donations from local business, families and friends and the home go out and purchase a present for each resident from the staff.

My husband moved into Northfield Care Centre just over a year ago due to a decline in his dementia. During his time there he has been cared for with great care and dignity from all the staff and we will always be grateful to them for that. His room was lovely, with en suite, always clean. As a family,
we were always treated with care and always made welcome on visiting.
My husband has now sadly passed away, and Northfield were so caring and helpful during this very difficult time.
I would not hesitate to recommend Northfield to anyone looking for care for a loved one. I thank them so much.

As times have grown much more difficult and stressful with the progression of the dementia and the ongoing peaks and troughs of covid, I would like to thank each and every member of the team at Northfield. They have been exemplary in their care, showing devotion to duty going over and above on many
occasions. They have been extremely thoughtful and kind and have done everything in their power to help. An amazing care team in an amazing care home.

My mum came into the home after having a stroke, she was there for a number of years., unable to speak and also paralysed. I cannot fault the care she received from past and present staff. I wouldn't have had her stay anywhere else. My mum died recently and the staff were brilliant with her care and
their care towards our family.

Reply from Thomas Ogden, Director at Northfield Care Centre

The care provided to our mum was exceptional. She was well cared for and made to feel loved. The care, compassion, love and respect given by staff, not only to our mum but to us in her final hours helped enormously.
On the practical side, her room was bright, warm and cosy and the furnishings were
spotless and new.

Overall very good caring.
A noticeable improvement of care on certain days when certain staff are working.
Extremely likely would be ticked once the caring becomes consistent.

My next-door neighbour has now been in the home for three weeks and she is much more alert. The staff here are all wonderful and give all their time and care to the residents. Everything about this care centre is exceptional and I cannot fault it at all. The staff all need recognition for the work they
do. Thank you.

My dad was a resident in Northfield for approximately 16 months until he sadly passed away in November 2019. When he was initially put into care, the whole family was distraught as he was very precious to us and I cannot say that everything ran smoothly. However, when the new manager was put in post
earlier this year, she made a huge difference and if we had an issue with any of Dad’s care, we were listened to and action was taken. If anyone is looking to have care for their family they need look no further than Northfield. The home itself is clean and tidy, the food is of excellent quality and nothing is too much trouble. All the staff, including laundry, kitchen staff, cleaners, carers, nurses, caretaker, admin staff and volunteers are excellent at what they do. This is not just a “job” to them, it is a “vocation.” I cannot praise the staff enough and highly recommend them to care for our precious family members. They became a second family to my dad and the rest of the family.

My partner was looked after in a most dignified way. This home was by far the best she has been in everything about it is to be commended. The treatment she received was of the highest standard. I will be recommending this home to all of our friends, should they be in need of care.

I've got both parents in care at Northfield, one on residential and the other is on dementia care.
The care staff are excellent, very friendly, bright and helpful. There are ample activities including a knitting group, the only problem we have had is with missing clothes. We don't like the doctor's
attitude but that's not the care homes fault.

I have stayed here for the third time for respite. The staff are marvellous, nothing is too much trouble for them. Rooms are clean and spacious with comfortable beds. Food is ample and varied and staff will offer you alternatives if you don't like the menu.
There are weekly activities when the entertainment
lady is at work. I thought it was lovely that Northfield allowed my dog in to see me.

My wife, who has dementia, has been a resident at Northfield Care Centre for two months now. I can't praise the wonderful staff highly enough. Always friendly and caring, nothing is too much trouble for them, they always go the extra mile.

The lounges, dining rooms, and bedrooms (all en-suite) are

decorated to a high standard, and are kept very clean.

If I ever have to go into a care home it will be Northfield. Can't give a higher recommendation than that!

My sister has been a resident at Northfield Care Centre for 5 months and we are so happy with the care that she receives. All the staff at the care home are fantastic and cannot do enough to help. They take the worry away as I know she is in great hands. The home is beautiful and kept to an extremely
high standard. I cannot recommend this home enough.

My mum has been in respite for three weeks at North Fields. I can't praise the staff enough for the care that they have given my mum. Her room was an en-suite and was very clean as was all the home.
Family and friends were welcome to visit and could even book to stay for dinner.
All the staff are
a credit to the home and I would highly recommend North Fields Care Centre. My mum would not hesitate to go back in the future. The food was fresh and hot and my mum who is 90 has put weight on during her stay.
In the future, should my mum need permanent care I would not go anywhere else.

Current Review Score: 7.1 (7.063)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.1 (7.063) out of 10 for Northfield Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.6 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.625 for Northfield Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (26 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (20 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (9 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 3.625

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.438 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Northfield Care Centre is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 80 registered maximum number of service users is 16. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 16 = 0.188

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
