My 95-year-old father arranged to spend two weeks at Bourne Wood Manor to discover whether he would enjoy the care home experience. Despite the immaculate surroundings and very good food, he did not enjoy his stay. He found a lack of congenial company made it a lonely time. The care staff, while
efficient, woke him very early (7 am) to administer his daily medication; when he asked for it to be given later he was told it was not convenient to them to do so. At no time did anyone give him any sort of indoctrination and he felt as though he had arrived and just been dumped in his room. He somewhat resented being spoken to very loudly and as though he had cognitive problems. He asked me to arrange for him to leave before the end of his two weeks, and at no point at that time, or indeed after his departure did anybody come to debrief him and ask about his stay, or to say goodbye. He was very disappointed all round and has told his family he does not wish ever to live in a care home.

I am somewhat surprised at the comments as I know that the effort and time spent by our team with your father during his stay is not reflective of what has been noted here. If you have the opportunity, do read the many other independent reviews of our Home, as they paint a very different picture of both long and short term stays with us. We often find that families hear distorted views from their loved ones where it is their wish to remain at home, perhaps understandably, as moving to a care home is mostly from necessity, not a personal choice. We wish your father the very best and hope that when life at the home returns to normal, post-pandemic, he might consider staying with us again so he may experience what so many other people have at Bourne Wood Manor. Mother was moved from another area. She has settled well and is always smiling. She seems content and clean and seems happy when I visit. She is suffering from vascular dementia and is none communicative now. She is well looked after and fed well and has put weight on since moving in September. Staff
very helpful and friendly.

Bourne Wood Manor bears no relation to the medias portrayal of care homes this year. It is so much better, I liken it to a static luxury cruise ship. The layout is like no other care home I have visited, you wouldn't know it was a care home unless told.
The decor is superb. They maintain excellent
standards in all areas of carer. The staff always look happy and are welcoming. Faultless in a very difficult time.

We have been extremely pleased with Bourne Wood and all of the staff. We were quite worried because mum had gone to the home straight from hospital and because of the Covid crisis we weren't able to settle her in and visit. However, we had nothing to worry about because the staff are fantastic and nothing
is too much trouble. They totally and effectively supported her transition from hospital at a very difficult time. Anything that we request is dealt with promptly and with grace and we know that our mum is happy. We knew from the minute we stepped in through the door that we liked Bourne Wood, it has such a lovely atmosphere and friendly faces. Nothing is ever too much trouble. We can't thank you enough, especially during this crisis!

From the day that we first went to visit Bourne Wood Manor Care Home, we were treated with kindness and respect. Considering we turned up unannounced, the time given by the Manager was wonderful and we were left feeling as though we were the only people she had to deal with. Notwithstanding the absolutely
beautiful decor and comfort of the rooms, the environment is overwhelmingly warm and welcoming.
Every single member of staff from the reception team and admin staff to the carers and nurses are kind and caring. The attention to detail is fantastic and it is clear that everyone genuinely cares about the residents and also, importantly, the relatives.
Communication is great and during these difficult Covid-19 days, we have been able to speak to Mum via I-Pad and Skype which is lovely as we can see her!
So, a massive thank you to the staff at Bourne Wood Manor for everything they do on the 'frontline' whilst still maintaining smiles and a sense of humour!!!

Having recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, mum moved into Bourne Wood Manor three months ago. She has settled in really well and we are both happy. She is looking forward to Christmas with her new friends. Bourne Wood Manor has a lovely atmosphere. Mum enjoys walking to the bistro and watching
films in the cinema. she very much disliked having carers forever in and out of her flat. Now she feels like she's permanently on holiday in a good hotel!.

Bourne Wood Manor stepped in when I needed them the most and were incredibly supportive and understanding. The staff are all amazing and are so good with my mother who appears to be very fond of them. Mum seems to have bloomed since moving in and is much happier than she was at home. There are laughs
in abundance here and much happiness. A wonderful place that gives much peace of mind.

At a time when my mother was no longer able to cope at home, Bourne Wood Manor was recommended as a place to look at. At the time I was a little sceptical of care homes and had already a picture in my head of what to expect. However, the minute I walked through the door and saw the modern, bright and
spacious environment my worries and concerns were dismissed. I only popped in for a brochure but within 45 minutes of my arrival I had been welcomed and shown around the facilities and shown how lovely it was.
From that time onwards BWM kept in regular contact and supported my mum's transition from hospital into her room. The support provided was excellent and they managed early difficulties brilliantly and with tact. My mum had to move from downstairs to the dementia floor as the nursing staff recognised early she was becoming isolated.
All in all I could not have wished for a better outcome. All the early days worries have gone.

Since moving to Bourne Wood Manor Care Home, my grandmother has become happy again. There is so much on offer of her, activity-wise, that she is starting to live again! The staff are professional and friendly and the home is beautifully decorated and cosy. We enjoy visiting here and do not hesitate
in bringing the children ad dogs with us. Thank you for looking after my grandmother so wonderfully.

The service and understanding we have received from a certain member of staff has blown us away. We have looked at a huge number of homes. By this staff member's understanding and empathy made us move our mother to Bourne Wood Manor.

I studied at Godalming College, where I completed A-levels in Sociology and Hospitality. Through my studies, I developed strong customer service skills and consistently achieved high targets. My educational background has given me a solid foundation in understanding people and meeting their needs effectively.


I started working in the care sector due to my personal experience of helping my family find care for my grandparents. This experience has been deeply impactful and has equipped me with the qualities needed to be a trustworthy and compassionate person to speak to. It has also fuelled my passion for providing the best possible care and support to residents and their families.


In my free time, I enjoy spending quality moments with my friends and family. We love going on new adventures, whether it is exploring new places, trying out new activities or simply enjoying each other's company. These experiences have enriched my life and have helped me to become a more empathetic and understanding person.

Hello, my name is Alison Darch, and I am the Activities and Wellbeing Lead here at Bourne Wood Manor Care Home.


I have been working in the care sector for 23 years, taking care of residents in other care homes and supporting seniors in a domiciliary environment. I have an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care, and I am currently on a leadership programme. I am also due to start a NAPA training course that focuses on person-centred activities and engagement in the new year.


I am a spiritual and creative individual, which I feel assists in my role. I am incredibly passionate about organising activities and events that enhance the day-to-day lives of our residents.
