Royal Star & Garter offers compassionate, loving care to veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia.

The High Wycombe home opened in April 2019 and has been exclusively designed for the comfort and well-being of residents.

Specialist nursing and dementia care are offered in a relaxed, homely environment. Residents can enjoy the many activities in the spacious lounges, share the day with friends in the cafe-bar, or enjoy quiet time in the library or landscaped gardens.

With over 50 activities and outings every week, there is always something fun to do.

The in-house physiotherapy team offers regular physiotherapy sessions in a fully equipped studio.

Each resident has a large, en-suite bed-sitting room.

The care team works hard to ensure that life for residents in the High Wycombe home is comfortable, stimulating and fulfilling. Residents are supported to live a full and enjoyable life.

My dad was a resident at the Royal Star & Garter for eighteen months in the dementia section. Care goes way beyond looking after the physical needs and the staff took the time and effort to connect with dad and become friends as well as carers. They excelled in this area and made dad's time as happy
as possible, sharing jokes and spending time engaging with dad in activities. I am very grateful to the staff for the effort that they put in this area.
The facilities are also second to none. It is a new purpose build, the accommodation for residents is first class as are the facilities for visitors and resident entertainment purposes.
Our whole family can highly recommend this care home - it is just such a great combination of staff, facilities and care management. Simply Gold Standard and a benchmark for the care sector.

After years of being bed-bound and cared for at home, the hard decision was made for my husband to be moved into the Royal Star & Garter - High Wycombe for end-of-life care. With the outstanding nursing care and the amazing love and attention from all the staff, he was able to fulfil a very happy and
comfortable year there. They went above and beyond and were even able to arrange for him to visit the garden and attend activities with the other residents. As a family, we cannot recommend the Star and Garter highly enough and we will always be grateful for the wonderful year that he had there.

Moving my mother into the Royal Star & Garter was the best decision I made. The care given to her is exceptional, and she has a very close bond with all the members of staff. The facilities are outstanding, and the activities and entertainment provided are wonderful. I cannot rate the home highly enough

When our mother’s dementia meant that she was in need of full-time care, we were delighted and relieved that she was able to move to the Royal Star and Garter, High Wycombe. The care and love she received was consistently outstanding and overwhelming. Her room felt like a great hotel, was well equipped
but nevertheless remained very personal with her own possessions very much in evidence. The corridors and communal spaces are very light and cheerful with aspects over the gardens. In the dementia unit, there were many visual stimulations to trigger memories and the staff are wonderful and patient in their conversations with the residents to bring back all those memories. Mum’s needs were always attended to with respect, dignity, cheerfulness and patience. Sadly we lost mum at the end of 2021 but again we were hugely relieved that the Rose Star and Garter were able to provide outstanding end of life care and we were left speechless at the level of love and care that she received at that time.

My mother moved to Royal Star and Garter from another local Care Home in the area mid December 2021. I have not regretted the move and find everything about the Royal Star and Garter to be first class. My mother is now back to how she was before she entered the previous care home and I am so thankful
to the staff at RS&G for everything they have done for her. The staff are so caring and always take the time to speak and update me on my mum. My only regret is not choosing the Royal Star & Garter in the first place and having to watch my mother suffer in a care home that was not suitable for her needs.

My dad moved to Royal Star and Garter in High Wycombe as he needed nursing care on discharge from hospital. His stay was only short-lived as he was in his final few weeks of life, and he sadly passed away five weeks later in November 2021.
Dad was not mobile, but the staff were able to move him around
the spacious room from bed or chair to bathroom with the ceiling hoists. He was able to have his electric reclining chair by the window, looking out over the garden, and we put pictures and photos up for him.


The staff were very friendly and caring, nothing was too much trouble, and Dad felt very happy and lucky to be there.


My family and I are very grateful that Dad was able to spend his final weeks being cared for by such lovely,warm, friendly, caring people who treated him with dignity and respect, and they are all truly amazing.


I would have no hesitation in recommending Royal Star and Garter, High Wycombe to anyone.

Mum was welcomed into the home in an instant. She was included as we all were and still are. The staff always have a smile on their faces and are happy to welcome us in when we visit. Mum is very well cared for, she’s clean, fed and has actually put a little weight back on.

The Star & Garter Homes have a great reputation and, in my experience, it is very well-earned.
The High Wycombe Home is bright and modern, comfortable and relaxing.
My Father moved to the Wycombe Home after a stay in hospital, and the contrast could not have been more marked.
In hospital, he was
not eating and was simply wasting away. In the comfort of the Home, with plenty of staff to monitor him, he has made a good recovery, gradually recovering his strength and settling nicely into a comfortable routine.
Now he has his strength back, he is also able to enjoy a more active life and is happy in the thought that he can remain well-looked after for the foreseeable future.
All the staff are professional, warm and caring - after the isolation of living alone during Covid, I think he really appreciates that human contact, as much as anything else.
I thoroughly recommend the Star & Garter.

We were delighted to discover that my father's Naval service back in the 1950s meant that my mother could become a resident at this truly wonderful establishment. It feels like a good quality hotel in many ways, but with superbly attentive, polite and cheerful staff on hand at all times. Despite Covid,
the whole process of settling Mum in has been made as easy and painless as possible, and we are truly grateful. Cannot recommend highly enough!

From the very first day, my friends joined the Royal Star & Garter the attention, care and love they have received has been simply exemplary. All of the staff have a very clear understanding of both of their different health and emotional needs and constantly respond to their individual requirements
to vastly improve their quality of life. They are both happier, healthier and much more fulfilled than prior to their residence with you.
The excellent response to and control of the Covid crisis is further clear evidence of the extremely high quality of staff and the standards of the whole organisation.
Our personal experience of the willing support and guidance we have received from management, nursing and care staff alike has been superb in a very difficult situation. Their ongoing communications and ready availability really makes a tremendous difference.
The quality of the environment and resources is terrific and we really can't think how it could be better.

My father moved to the Royal Star & Garter earlier this year after a period of living with me and at a difficult time due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic. He has vascular dementia and I was concerned that the move would be very confusing for him. I need not have worried! The staff have been
exemplary in helping him settle in and he now speaks of it as being his new home. There is a weekly programme of activities that give him lots of variety and choice - he's especially keen on the scenic tours in the home's minibus and enjoys playing pool with other residents. He tells me the food is excellent and I can see from his appearance that he's well cared for. I've also found communication with the staff excellent, which is very reassuring. I'd be very happy to recommend this care home to anyone seeking similar care.

It was a difficult decision as a family to entrust the care of our mother to a care home. However, from the moment that we first visited the home and organised a trial stay for our mother, it became very evident that the Star & Garter team were committed to providing a friendly, professional and high
level of care for all their residents. Our mother who suffers from Vascular Dementia has benefited from 24-hour care and has consequently become less anxious, gained weight and is sleeping better. She is less lonely and enjoys all the many varied activities available to residents. Through the pandemic, we have been so impressed by the team's hard work, dedication and good humour, and despite the challenges of visiting through this period, we have always been consulted with, kept in the loop and every effort has been made to cater for each resident/family's needs. When visiting we enjoy the fantastic environment, the community spirit where we are always welcomed and able to join in!

The staff at the Royal Star & Garter are absolutely wonderful and very caring towards my father. I would go so far as to say that they have saved his life after having transferred him here from another care home. They are always well staffed, offer lots of activities and the food is apparently delicious.
The accommodation is second to none and the gardens are lovely. What more can I say about this wonderful place!

I have worked for the charity since 2009, becoming High Wycombe’s Home Manager in late 2020.


The things I love the most about my job are being able to create lovely moments and memories with the residents and being able to laugh and cry with them, comfort and reassure each other when we feel sad, and just being there as a friend and family. I also love that we are one family, there is no ‘them and us’.
