Royal Star & Garter offers compassionate, loving care to veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia.

The High Wycombe home opened in April 2019 and has been exclusively designed for the comfort and well-being of residents.

Specialist nursing and dementia care are offered in a relaxed, homely environment. Residents can enjoy the many activities in the spacious lounges, share the day with friends in the cafe-bar, or enjoy quiet time in the library or landscaped gardens.

With over 50 activities and outings every week, there is always something fun to do.

The in-house physiotherapy team offers regular physiotherapy sessions in a fully equipped studio.

Each resident has a large, en-suite bed-sitting room.

The care team works hard to ensure that life for residents in the High Wycombe home is comfortable, stimulating and fulfilling. Residents are supported to live a full and enjoyable life.

Truly an excellent home. The staff are wonderful and my dad is finally in a place he doesn’t want to escape from. He has been living there for nearly a year now and has been so much happier than his previous residence. 5 stars.

Every time that my wife and myself come to visit our uncle we have always been given first-class service, friendly and informative and very human. Our uncle can be a fussy person but since being here he has not complained once and when we telephone on the odd occasion to talk to him the staff are very
polite and helpful.
When we visit the areas are spotlessly clean and the home is fantastic in keeping us up to date with all the activities both with pictures and with emails.
A first-class home thank you.

The first time we came to view this care home, we knew it was perfect for my father. The measure in how fabulous this place is, is how happy and settled my father was from the minute he moved in. My mother lived here for four months; where there are unbelievably high standards of care with the utmost thought given to every detail.


A well designed, very comfortable building with dedicated staff who are excellently trained and chosen with a natural ability to look after residents in a most

personal and attentive way.
Patience, involvement in activities, encouragement and a real interest in the residents makes life so much better for them and is a joy to witness.


End of life care was superb and meticulously arranged which made the death of my mother seamlessly easier.


My sincerest gratitude goes to the whole wonderful organisation.

Please could a system be set up whereby when a relative puts a request in for lunch for the next day, a message is put in the residents handover notes so that the carers get the resident up and dressed, breakfasted and ready in time to greet the guest and is able to eat lunch with them i.e not given
a large breakfast late in the morning when lunch is at 1pm. Not left to sit around/in bed in pyjamas when not ill so keeps the guest waiting, also the resident misses out on the morning activities if in own room half the morning.

My husband went into the Royal Star & Garter on the 21st of May 2019. He fell on the 24th May fracturing his hip and shoulder. He had successful surgery on his hip in Stoke Manderville. He had two further falls one in June and one on the 29th August 2019 resulting in his death on the 29th August.
It
has been a traumatic time for all the family. There was an inquest on the 4th of December. I was very impressed by the nurses and carers their kindness, patience and care the facilities and the home itself.

The nurses and staff felt privileged to care for your husband and to provide you with support during such a difficult time. They were also honoured to be involved while he was in hospital and to be included in his funeral.
Your husband had been assessed by our team as being at a high risk of falling and we did everything we could to minimise this. Our Homes, staff, environment and systems are set up to closely monitor this as well as any associated medical conditions, but sometimes despite everything, incidents still happen. The Coroner concluded that this was a very sad case of an accidental death. You and your family remain in our thoughts and it was wonderful to welcome you back into the Home in December for our Starlight event.

We have found the whole experience to date with The Star & Garter to be excellent. From the initial enquiry, through the assessment to dad's arrival, they were thorough, attentive and extremely professional.
As a resident, dad is valued and cared for in a genuine and considerate manner. Staff have
taken the time to understand his interests and needs. The home itself is spotless and really well appointed. Dad's room is spacious with a view onto a beautiful garden and his own pictures on the wall. Dad feels safe and loved.

My twelve days of respite care have been some of the happiest ever. The multi-talented staff catered for every need and made me feel very special. It was as though I was a member of a happy family. My general health showed a rapid improvement with the help of the physio. Have no fear, I will return.

I have worked for the charity since 2009, becoming High Wycombe’s Home Manager in late 2020.


The things I love the most about my job are being able to create lovely moments and memories with the residents and being able to laugh and cry with them, comfort and reassure each other when we feel sad, and just being there as a friend and family. I also love that we are one family, there is no ‘them and us’.
