The home and staff have made mum feel extremely welcome and they are all very helpful. The home manager is very lovely and explains everything in relation to mum's care in depth and is very helpful and approachable.

We made a great choice when selecting Pear Tree Court. The carers and nursing staff are wonderful and kind to my Mum. All of the staff, from the front desk to maintenance and the cleaning crew, are helpful and supportive. Couldn't ask for better!

Even before Dad was admitted the level of service and attention to detail in talking us through what to expect was extremely beneficial especially as we were in the middle of Covid lockdown. Every staff member we spoke to showed empathy, compassion, professionalism and more importantly, genuine care
and understanding.
Covid has affected everyone so to see remote control temperature scanning from the front door was really impressive and reassuring.
Although we could only view Pear Tree Court from the entrance it looks more like an upmarket hotel and the staff were good enough to take many pictures to help us decide if this was the new home for Dad.
Getting Dad settled in was not straight forward, two weeks of quarantine for him, change of his routine, surroundings, bed, in fact, a massive upheaval for him made even more difficult because we couldn’t go in and help, yet everyone without exception has been fantastic and accommodating.
Many thanks to all the staff.

My Mother became a resident of the care home right at the beginning of lockdown, she was made very welcome by all the staff at a very difficult time for them and her. She has just celebrated her Birthday in the care home, and she was overjoyed with the cake and balloons she received. She enjoys the
chats she has with the lovely volunteers that come in regularly.

I think that Pear Tree Court is an amazing care home. My mother has been a resident for 2 years and is very happy there.
Before COVID 19 whenever I visited I was made welcome, able to make drinks, there were cakes or biscuits for visitors. My mum has come on so well living there, it is so nice to see
her happy. The only thing I am a bit worried about is that there has to be a nominated person in the family to see my mum, myself and my sister do not talk to each other and this makes it hard to communicate with her. If she becomes the nominated person I will then have to be ok with a Skype call.
Mum loves the singing, and the games that they play - it makes her think and use her brain again.
The staff at the home are so lovely if I ring with a concern they put me at ease straight away. Even the residents are sweet and pre COVID I would spend a couple of hours on each visit.

My experience of Pear Tree is based on being a volunteer but also having my mum as a resident there.
My mum initially came in for a four-week respite break after being in hospital for a period of time.
She had a warm welcome and soon settled in. After extending the respite care for a further four
weeks, she then decided she wanted to stay permanently.
As a family, we were surprised to hear her decision, as she had previously always said she did not want to end up in a care home.
The good care and friendly staff at Pear Tree all contributed to a difficult decision being made a far easier one.
As a family, we feel content that she is in a secure and safe place, where she is well looked after.
My role as a volunteer has enabled me to spend valuable time with the majority of the residents.
I enjoy one to one time in their rooms, chatting or reading to them.
I also get involved in the lovely group activities and see the residents being stimulated and having fun.

In this very difficult situation we all find ourselves in, I feel confident my mother is in very safe, caring hands here at Pear Tree. I really appreciate the updates my the manager by email most weeks and especially appreciate the updates by phone from two members of staff who are always so pleasant
to talk to. Nothing is too much trouble and they and the rest of the staff here do such a fantastic job. I and the rest of my family would like the send our sincere thanks for all you do and taking such good care of our mum/grandma/great-grandma. You are all stars and I hope when this awful virus is over, the government will actually pay you the salary you so deserve, because currently it’s a disgrace!

The home is clean and safe for my mum to live in. The staff are welcoming at reception and all carers are friendly and helpful. My mum has a warm room with ensuite which gives her privacy as she needs personal care by the carers several times a day. Recently they have nursed her back to better mobility
and health following some falls in her own house before she moved here in September. She enjoys seeing her visitors at any time and then she can see them in the coffee shop or the family room if needed.

When home help could not sustain my mother's needs, Pear Tree Court offered a dignified care package that instantly made my mother safe in their wonderful care, and in turn knowing that she is safe I felt a great burden of responsibility being lifted, that in her final chapter the care package would
be the best that could be offered in our area close to where her friends could visit and family members could come and go when they pleased. All the staff including importantly, the nursing staff, treated my mother with ultimate respect which unlike a hospital is truly humbling to witness. I would give thanks to the fact that nothing had been a problem during her stay especially when family members at times need as much comfort as those suffering, all of which was given with compassion in spades. They are a credit to our area which other homes strive to achieve the same level. Thank you to all the staff at Pear Tree Court - Horndean.

Pear Tree Court is a clean and welcoming home. Management make time to talk to residents/family and answer any questions they may have the staff through to maintenance are very pleasant and helpful, cannot fault the food and welfare of the residents. My partner has been in Pear Tree Court for 18 months
now. There is a variety of activities of which he enjoys when able also have entertainment come to the home most weeks. I would definitely recommend Pear Tree Court to family/friends.

The immediate and lasting feeling given is of a comfortable well-established country hotel. It has a very welcoming atmosphere. Pear Tree court impressed me as a well organised and well-run care home. My room had a French window opening onto the garden, with en-suite, well designed and very comfortable,
except that I should have preferred a slightly softer mattress. Public rooms are spacious and brightly and tastefully decorated. They give an immediately warm, positive and very welcoming impression. The staff are first class - warm, friendly and cheerful and know their jobs which they do quietly and efficiently. Food was good. Red wine (my favourite). Service was bad. The wine itself was good, but on several occasions there was none available (and I am told this failure was not unusual), culminating with none available on each of my last three evenings.

My mother moved to Pear Tree Court after a trial month in a, supposed rated, care home in north Kent. In Kent, it was found that my mother was frequently abandoned for hours on end, even when trying to achieve basic levels of care. In immediate contrast, my mother settled in very quickly into the Pear
Tree Court and we were both pleased with the care and attention she received from every member of the staff. It was appreciated that an instant response could not be made for every request/call as, obviously, the staff had other residents to look after. It was noted that the manager had previously been employed in the turn around of under-performing care homes. Encouragingly this meant that the manager was able to identify quickly any perceived shortfalls in performance, and importantly, what to do to ensure full rectification. We found the Pear Tree Court to be well led with the staff fully motivated and cheerfully trying to do a good job as possible for all the residents. The standard of cooking was excellent and much appreciated.
On arrival and having being alerted by a well-respected survey magazine, I expressed concern that should a resident die in the Pear Tree Court, then an excessive two-week charge of fees would be made after the date of death. This I considered to be unreasonable but was assured by both the manager and deputy that this company policy was under review. On that basis the contract was signed, the 2-week fee still remaining contractually binding. On the passing of my mother, I discovered that Care UK had changed this part of its policy to only a 3-day fee. This revision was subsequently honoured in full in my case, even though importantly I had not been invited to re-endorse a new contract. This action was impressive and reflects well on the integrity of Care UK. My family and I wish to thank all of the Pear Tree Court staff for all their efforts to make my mother as comfortable as possible during her final days.

We revised our policy on charging for rooms last year in anticipation of new guidance from the CMA. As you correctly said, we now only charge for three days after a resident passes away unless a family wishes to keep the room for a little longer.

I’m a qualified Registered General Nurse with 15 years of experience in both NHS hospitals and private care nursing homes. I was keen to join Pear Tree Court because of Care UK’s very good reputation and the development opportunities that are available. I was looking for a service to manage on a long-term basis.


Previously, I was an Interim General Manager and Clinical Quality Assurance Manager for a provider that supports residents with complex care needs. I also have experience working as a turnaround manager, where I supported a nursing home to move from ‘Inadequate’ to ‘Good’ in six months by building an entirely new team. I have a passion for nurturing colleagues, and it makes me proud to see my team shine.


As a Home Manager, I believe it’s important to have a fair but firm approach, a willingness to listen and a supportive and reassuring management style. You need to have an open door for colleagues and compassion for residents. Supporting my team to ensure excellent care is provided to keep residents and their loved ones safe and happy is the most important part of my role.


My favourite part of being a Home Manager is caring for residents on a long-term basis. This means I have the opportunity to really get to know them and their families and understand how to support them to live fulfilling lives.


When I’m not working, I enjoy taking trips with my family, showing my two daughters different cultures and areas of the world.
