Whilst it’s been very difficult not seeing my mum when I want to this past year, I have been consoled by the knowledge that she is in a wonderful home and being cared for 24-hours a day. Mum is thriving at St Brendans, and I cannot express my gratitude or give enough praise to the wonderful staff who
care for her every need. Despite being busy with the extra work they have had to cope with this year, they always have time when I call and get Mum to the phone to have a chat with me. Thank you.

My Mum has been a resident for over a year and seems very happy. It has been so good to see the anxiety of living on her own lifted from her. She can live as she did in her own home: reading, doing the crossword, watching the TV in her own room, without needing to worry about shopping, cleaning, and
cooking, etc. And there are always carers and other residents around and activities going on if she wants company. The person-centered approach of the staff makes for a very relaxed atmosphere and Mum is always chatting to them and sharing her stories. She has had a few medical issues, including a few days in hospital, and the staff have been very supportive in helping her back to health. They are also very good at communicating with us, her family.

Since moving to St Brendans care Home 15 months. I have been very happy. The overall standard of care etc being very good. I am however, I am rather disappointed with the food and menu, vegetables overcooked.
I would like to say that the breakfast meals are the best, the food is well cooked and enjoyable,
my favourite meal of the day.

Thank you for giving my mum and all the residents a lovely Christmas which I also enjoyed while visiting. I would also like to praise the chef for the quality of food produced. All the staff and management put so much effort into providing a "home from home" festivity. A big thank you to all the team
at St Brendans.

The staff, facilities, meals, rooms and the general feeling of wellbeing could not be bettered in many 5* hotels.
The staff were always pro-active and not re-active. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Every question or request was met first with a smile and then with an answer or a solution.
I
felt very comfortable in knowing that mum was being well cared for in a happy and positive environment.

I am very pleased that Mum is happy and is in a safe and secure environment. Only downside is that laundry goes astray even when marked.

The carers are totally dedicated and do a wonderful job but anybody considering placing an elderly relative with dementia at this care home should read on.

One should consider very carefully that if dementia care should start to get difficult for your loved one then perhaps St Brendan’s should not

be the home of choice.

After being a resident for 1 year we felt that St Brendan's seized upon Dad being hospitalised with a UTI as the opportunity to say then they could no longer accommodate his needs. Had the family been told from the outset that St Brendan’s only cater for limited dementia care then we would not have chosen this home for Dad's care. The decision to not welcome Dad back was taken whilst still undergoing antibiotic treatment for a UTI which can seriously change the behaviour of dementia patients.

We are now faced with moving Dad to a nursing home and disrupting his already confused and fragile life once again.

We find the staff very kind and caring. They look after my mother extremely well. St Brendans is very homely. All the residents are encouraged to join in all the activities and there are many.

I have been volunteering for about a year since just after St Brendans opened. It is a beautiful, well-equipped home in colourful well-kept grounds.
The staff are caring and helpful and work hard to provide the support that is needed, particularly with the dementia residents.
There are lots of different
activities provided, something every morning and afternoon, the daily film shows, trips and walks out and access to the bar that is open 3 times a week. Residents are happy and enjoy their home at St Brendans.

As a volunteer, I see a different perspective of the home. Residents generally seem happy with their surroundings and staff. Occasionally there are complaints re the quality of the food. The activities are varied and well attended. The home is warm and well equipped and if anything is not available
efforts are made to obtain what is required.

I specifically would like to highlight a certain staff member for going out of her way to support my grandmother who needed urgent transport for an infusion. This staff member travelled with my grandmother to the hospital after the 1st time she was sent home. Logistically, this was difficult but this
staff member reassured me that all would be good. On top of her great work I would also like to thank 3 other staff members for all their care, understadning and support of nan during her time. Thank you from all of us.

The care and attention that mum is receiving is, in my opinion, 2nd to none. The staff are attentive and caring. On a recent hospital admission, the consultant said the notes that were provided were excellent and the best she had seen. So a big thank you to all at St Brendans.

My mother moved into St Brendans in April 2018. I think the care is excellent. There is a stable team of carers and they really do seem to genuinely care. My mum has gone from strength to strength since being there. Her confidence has grown. The facilities are really good. I would highly recommend it.

I do not know about activities as my friend is unclear about them. I have not eaten a meal but enjoyed drinks and biscuits. My friend speaks well of the food. The building is new and outstanding. The staff are very helpful and encourage me to come. I have experienced seeing how well the residents are
treated and respected. My friend is very happy with St Brendans but obviously wishes that she has no dementia. She is not entirely unaware; the staff deal well with that. I do not know how much she pays.
This is not the easiest of jobs but I am grateful that you are taking care of people.

My mother's week here was not all satisfactory to her needs ie, no rise and fall chair which meant each time she needed the toilet, she had to ring the bell. Also, no leg rest, her legs have to be raised. The bed also was not adequate. She didn't like the food either. This lady is very easy going and
hardly complains but we feel that if you are going to offer respite, we feel the client's needs are catered for i.e, for instance, chairs, the correct chair would have given you more time to help others, she could have gone to the loo herself.

My husband was in your home for a short respite break and from my first contact with you, I was very impressed by the staff and their dedication to their work and the residents. The surroundings are relaxing and very welcoming, food was very good and we were both very happy with his stay. We would certainly
use again if available. I hope staff levels are maintained once the home is full.

The staff are all very caring and supportive of both residents and their family. All the staff know the names of the residents and try to develop a relationship with them, sharing pleasant exchanges and cheery comments. The staff have kept me informed of any health problems with my father and have tried
to improve things for his comfort.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.183)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.183) out of 10 for St Brendans Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.557 for St Brendans Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (84 Excellents x 5) + (23 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 115 Ratings = 4.557

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.626 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Brendans Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 62 registered maximum number of service users is 12.4. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 12.4 = 0.726

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
