Woodlands Lodge is Formby’s hidden gem! Located close to the heart of Formby, it is the ideal home setting with a welcoming team of care professionals. The Lodge provides a range of residential care and residential dementia care services to residents over the age of 65.

Arranged over two floors, Woodlands Lodge provides a community setting where members can benefit from high-quality care, tailored to their individual needs. It has been specially designed to improve residents’ quality of life, through mobility and experience.

Fully equipped with high-quality furnishings and fittings throughout; each bedroom comes with an adjustable profile bed, call bell system, flat-screen TV, telephone, wireless internet access and ensuite wet room. There is a range of facilities from comfortable lounges, dining rooms, health & beauty salon, resident’s kitchen and outdoor spaces that are perfect for visits with friends & family.

Woodlands Lodge understands the importance of a well-balanced and nutritious diet and therefore, a carefully selected team produces home-cooked meals onsite daily. The resident's preferences and cultural or dietary requirements are incorporating into the menu and guests are able to join residents at mealtimes if there have been prior arrangements.

The Lodge has their very own in-house lifestyle and wellbeing team who organise a full schedule of daily activities and outings. They are dedicated to making their residents’ home a happy, vibrant and fun place to live! With lots of daily in-house activities taking place in the communal lounges, there is always something fun going on around every corner.

The staff are all very friendly and caring. The food is very good. The room is very pleasant with a very comfortable bed. The home is clean and there is no smell! All in all, I find woodlands Lodge to be an excellent care home and what I would expect for the large amount we are paying.

Woodlands Lodge have been amazing.
I had to return to Australia and leave my mum in very capable hands following a horrendous accident when she was knocked down by a car and fractured both her arms.
The care and communication have been superb and the staff always go the extra mile.
Working in nursing
myself I'm so impressed at the standard of care and quality of the environment and facilities.

Fantastic care, professional staff. Woodlands is like your own home. We've had an excellent time being here and I know my grandma has been cared for very well. She is always happy, clean, very well looked after. I wouldn't consider any other homes other than the Athena Group.

The quality of care that my mother received at Woodlands Lodge appeared similar to the quality provided at other good local care homes.


The rooms are newer and bigger than many but the weekly rate which is £950 per week is much more than other homes providing similar quality services. The food, in

particular, was disappointing for the cost. It reminded me of food in institutions that use cheap ingredients, prepared in advance and kept warm. As a result, it is neither fresh nor appetising eg soggy fish, chips and frozen peas, plain sausage and mash twice in one week, and soup where it is impossible to identify the original ingredients. The evening meal is selected in the morning from two options and served at 16.00pm which appears to be to suit the staff, not the residents.


The caring side of the service is comparable with the best so no complaints in this area but for £135 per day my mother could also reasonably have expected a much better catering and domestic provision.

Sadly it appeared Woodlands was not for your mum. Staff and residents tried hard to make her feel welcome and to join in activities as planned but she refused.
Room was reallocated and mum seemed happier with this. I myself spent time with mum aware difficulty in settling in and time given to express concerns each time.
Food is prepared daily and from fresh ingredients and amended to meet special diet requirements. Meals have never been served at 16.00 and at a resident meeting, a documented request for 17.00 which has been in place since 12th November. Staff have always ensured that the comfort of Woodlands residents come first. Evidenced by the many positive comments received.

I arrived in extreme pain, with fractured wrists and an infection in my leg. I was given first class attention - pain relief, comfortable surroundings, immediate help when required.
Assistance was provided with showering, washing of clothes etc. I have difficulty swallowing food - my meals were pureed
and tasty and easy to swallow.
Events and outings were very interesting and access to the local church. Garden areas very pleasing.
Visitors are welcomed and I had a lovely surprise on my 80th birthday. A party was arranged to include family members. Hospital visits were arranged with transport.
A lovely, caring atmosphere in the home - staff very helpful with reassurance and encouragement.

Woodlands Lodge is a beautiful care home. My dad went in for a two-week trial on the 4th of September and already looks better in himself and we have peace of mind that he is safe and is being really well cared for. Woodlands was impeccably clean. The staff were excellent. Very kind and caring nothing too much trouble. The rooms were very large, modern, light and airy. Excellent en-suite wet room. I have found the standard of care to be excellent, whenever I have visited a resident. The person I visit rates the qualities of all the staff very highly. The staff appear to care for the residents in a sensitive. The holistic manner with the emphasis on dignity, empathy and respect.
The care home
is always immaculate and very clean.
There is always sufficient numbers of staff on duty and everyone is friendly, polite and professional.

Woodlands Lodge feels more like an assisted living establishment than a care home. The building is bright and exceptionally clean it offers easy access to dining room, garden etc for residents with compromised mobility. The staff were courteous and kind and I liked the fact that visitors could be taken
to a private comfortable room where we were offered tea and cake. I would recommend theWoodlands Lodge to anyone making the transition from their own home to a more secure and caring place to live.

Having worked in the care sector now for more than 15 years in various roles, the most fulfilling role has to be working with prospective residents, their family or their representatives. I find it most rewarding in helping to find the most suitable care home that will endeavour to meet the care needs of each new resident, along with show casing and promoting the many superb facilities each individual care home has to offer.


My main duty is just by being there every step of the way, helping to support families to take away some of the stress of trying to find the right care home for their loved one.


In my spare time I love nothing more than walking my cockapoo, travelling to different counties within the UK and visiting different countries to sample the different restaurants, sightseeing and experiencing different cultures, but most importantly spending quality time with family and friends.
