Worthington Lake is a new purpose-built, accredited Dementia care home in Wigan. Set within the beautiful Lancashire countryside, the home is tailored to state-of-the-art dementia care, both in design and culture.

Worthington Lake Care home encourages residents to retain independence through involvement in day to day activities. So, whether it’s access to the secure outdoor sensory spaces or supervised involvement in the kitchen facilities, where residents can prepare food, the staff ensure every resident is free to live life to its fullest.

The extensive range of features and services is what sets Worthington Lake apart. The open-plan central hub provides easy access to a number of areas, such as the tea room, dining room with terrace and private patios. And with hair salon visits, farmers' markets and gardening on the agenda, there is a wide range of activities for residents to enjoy.

Designed and built to offer bespoke and specialised dementia care the 32-bed home will offer dementia care that is truly bespoke. The care home’s layout and design has been guided by the most forward-thinking research in dementia care to allow individuals the freedom and confidence to use all abilities to the fullest extent in a safe, secure and enabling environment.

Key to the overall ethos is the home from home principle. In a layout specifically considered to help those with short-term memory loss, there are no out of bounds areas. Individuals are encouraged to follow a path and create own space - personal identity isn’t left at the front door, it’s encouraged to flourish.

My partner's mum came to stay at Worthington Lake Care Home at the end of May. Mum has suffered from Dementia for a few years and her husband died suddenly in July 2021, - since then the 3 siblings were taking turns to stay with her and look after her. With much angst and emotion after 12 months we
accepted that this was not sustainable and started to look for a Care Home. After viewing several, there simply was no second choice other than Worthington Lake Care Home. Amazing staff, smart welcoming hotel style living. Open plan kitchen areas, balcony and gardens etc. However, the thing that has continued to amaze us and make us feel so happy that there was a place for mum is the amount of daily interactions and trips out etc that are arranged by Worthington Lake Care Home. I particularly love the “make my day” and the fact that activities are tailored to each individual. Mum has had her hair cut and it suits her! The change in her has been amazing, she is bright and confident and has settled into her new home well.

Since becoming a resident at Worthington Lake Care Home my father’s health and general demeanour have improved dramatically. This is purely down to the care and attention he receives there, from the quality staff members across all of the disciplines. He compares it to a 5-star hotel and I couldn’t
agree more.

Good all round care, with good facilities, caring staff and dignity for residents. Extra activities and special days eg Jubilee are well thought out. Day trips that take place are in line with residents interests and are communicated via Facebook.

Cannot thank the staff enough, they are warm, friendly and caring with the residents and reassuring, friendly and informative with the residents' families.
Worthington Lake Care Home is immaculately clean and in a beautiful setting.
On a personal note, our dad is doing much better since he arrived
here, he has put on weight, his speech has improved and it is very reassuring he is in such a safe, well cared for and stimulating environment. It is the best decision we have made for him.

My mum came to live at Worthington Lake in August 2021. Her room is lovely and is always very clean and tidy when I visit.
The home is in a beautiful setting overlooking the lake and surrounded by trees.
The home is spotlessly clean and very modern, it is more like a hotel than a care home.
The staff
are all so nice and caring and treat the residents like their own family. I always feel very welcome when I visit.
My mum has settled in very well and enjoys doing all the activities with the other residents.
The food always looks very good when I see it being served at lunchtime.
I would definitely recommend Worthington Lake Care Home to family and friends.

Worthington Lake has been absolutely amazing with my mum since she moved there in April this year. There is a lovely family atmosphere and everybody is included in all aspects of care home life. The activities are fab, fun and centred around the residents. They have recently been able to go out on day
trips, which has been lovely to see. The staff work tirelessly to make sure Mum is safe and happy and this gives me great peace of mind.

We have only visited Auntie in her room, not experienced food or drink. We are always welcomed with a smile, the residents we have seen do seem relaxed and happy. Our care package shows us the staff do know and understand my auntie. We are very happy with her care.

The care provided in Worthington Lake is exceptional. The staff go out of their way to provide a home from home, in which I see my father is treated with respect and genuine affection. The management of the home communicates regularly with families, and even though we live too far away to visit regularly,
we feel connected to and informed about the life my father now leads.

Worthington Lakes Care Home is set in beautiful, peaceful surroundings with excellent, clean, modern and comfortable facilities, like that of a luxury hotel. The staff are very friendly, loving and caring to both residents and family members. Loved how we could just call in at any time, be made to feel
at home and make a brew. Hopefully, this will recommence once the current restrictions allow. Have to say that Mum's quality of life has certainly improved since becoming a resident.

Such care, understanding and respect for the residents with Dementia. Always thinking of how they can help and assist the residents settle into their new home. My mum suffered the loss of my dad whilst he too was in the home and with the care and support she has received she is now back to dancing and
joining in with the activities. She loves to help where she can and the staff encourage her with the tasks she wants to do. Having pets in the home is lovely as the residents get great pleasure seeing them. Interactions via the Facebook portal, being on Facebook is a comfort as you can see what is happening and what they've been up to on a very regular basis. The food is second to none with excellent chefs and cooks employed there. The home is beautiful, spotlessly clean, the surroundings of the gardens and Worthington lake itself are amazing and so peaceful and tranquil.

My mum suffered a major downturn in her health earlier this year, and the support, care and compassion I witnessed from all of the staff and carers, not just to her, but to myself was outstanding and helped us all through a very difficult period. My mum's health is much improved.

Mum has now been in Worthington Lake Care Home for 11-months. Over those months, her dementia condition has worsened. I have nothing but appreciation for how the staff, all staff, have supported mum and their care and patience is truly outstanding. I really feel mum is cared for as an individual with
her own idiosyncrasies. Mum loves singing and this has been well catered for. Mum is very independent and before it was necessary for 24-hour care. she resisted carers helping her in her own home and always knew they were carers by the uniforms. What is great at Worthington is that carers wear their own clothes no uniform. Just one thing the home do in responding to the issues of having dementia. It was one of the hardest decisions for me to make for mum needing a care home, but I have peace of mind in knowing she is happy and well cared for.

I have been pleased with the care and experience my dad has had since moving in last August. He always says the staff can't do enough for you which I think is great feedback. He has made friends and been able to join in lots of activities. I feel the staff treat him with care and respect and as a person

Both my parents moved to Worthington Lake in January 2021. They both suffer from Alzheimer's and Vascular dementia and independent living was getting very difficult. My father had become suicidal and we have later established this was because of the number of cold calls and scams he received by mail
or by phone call. My mum was becoming paranoid and difficult to help, spending all her time in bed watching TV. The home has given them a new lease of life. As a family, we have seen an improvement in their mood and social interaction, whilst we have the knowledge that they are being cared for and are safe. The house carers are just lovely and although we are not able to go into the home at this time we have witnessed them dealing with very difficult situations on facetime with kindness, skill and patience. During covid, entering a care home has been difficult for my parents as they have at times been cut off from family but the staff have more than bridged the gap. Thank you.

It was hard to choose a care home for mum last summer when we couldn't visit due to covid restrictions, but mum liked the photos of Worthington Lake on their website and Facebook. I'm sure my family and I made the right choice because mum settled in quickly and is happy living there.

My Father-in-Law is a resident of Worthington Lakes Care Home and the standard of care has been exceptional since he arrived. The staff have been friendly and supportive and have provided a wealth of information when needed. The Deputy Manager has been easily contactable and has answered any questions
the family have had, she has taken the time time to speak to all our family members, which is quite a large family as requested. She has also met family members on a regular basis when visiting and provided updates and reassurance, especially when family members have been concerned when ending the visit. The activities that are organised at Worthington Lakes has been both stimulating and entertaining for my Father-in-Law, who has been a willing participant. I would recommend Worthing Lakes Care Home to others as the staff have most definitely met my Father-in Law's needs and there is no doubt there has been an improvement in his well-being both mentally and physically.

Our mum was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in December 2020, lived alone and deteriorated rapidly. After looking at several homes we found Worthington Lake. The first two weeks were difficult as mum settled in but the home was very supportive and assured us mum would be okay. Fast forward a couple of months,
mum is eating properly, enjoying regular exercise and has made a lot of new friends. She is a lot more alert and bright in our conversations and is really happy at Worthington Lake. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending them. Thank you to everyone there for all you do.

Our parents received the devastating diagnosis of mixed dementia in March 2020. Despite excellent at-home care from another service, it became obvious that they needed not only practical care but interactive care, care that would enable them to live an enriched life. We found this in Worthington Lake.
The transition hasn't been easy due to their condition but the kindness and support of the staff and the social activities are amazing. Through Covid, we have been able to use the Retreat in order to visit and are just looking forward to the time when we can share a whole day with them and their new friends. Thank you for putting light and laughter back into their lives, freeing them from the worries of trying to maintain the daily struggle with life with mixed dementia and for us to see our parents living, loving and thriving. It is difficult to fully assess some of the questions below as we have yet to see their rooms. However, our parents tell us they are very happy and we can see that.

Mum has been at Worthington Lake Care Home for 8 months. Not a move we wanted to make so were very apprehensive and upset. Since her time in the home, Mum is no longer lonely and is encouraged to live as independently as she can in the home and garden setting. The staff who look after Mum are both kind
and caring towards her. Mum feels she has made positive relationships with the staff and it is nice to see her interacting with them when we go to visit. Mum feels comfortable and safe here. There are many varied activities - Mum's favourite being the Art and Craft sessions. During Covid, visiting restrictions meant that we could not go into the Care Home, however, the retreat facility or "Posh Shed" as we like to call it, which is a safe bubble environment, has been a blessing and allowed us to see Mum once a week. Thank you for looking after our Mum.
