Walton House is a luxury care home set in the heart of the seaside town of Leven, Fife. The newly converted building has been thoughtfully re-configured to create a stunning nursing home opened by Kingdom Homes Ltd in the Spring of 2018.

Providing nursing care for 40 older people, Walton House is ideally situated close to local shops, the library and Post Office. The home is a short walk from Leven’s bus station and main shopping area.

Bedrooms are tastefully decorated and furnished, however residents can individualise their rooms with their favourite pieces of furniture, ornaments and photographs.

Walton House combines a home from home atmosphere whilst meeting all the latest safety requirements and regulations.

Each of the two floors, which are served by a lift, have their own lounge and dining room. The upper floor also has a separate "quiet" lounge and a hairdressing salon.

Residents can choose to join in a variety of daily activities ranging from gentle exercise classes to music therapies, reminiscence sessions, crafts and games.

Professional entertainers are also a regular feature in the events calendar, with concerts in the home at least once every month. Pet Therapy visitors are also popular with Kingdom Homes residents.

Walton House has regular use of minibuses which are accessible to wheelchair users and residents can visit nearby towns for a bit of shopping or for coffee. Walton House is an ideal starting point for a drive through the famous East Neuk fishing villages.

In summer months, they may venture further afield for longer trips to destinations like Blair Drummond Safari Park, the barge on the Union Canal at Ratho or the Kelpies sculptures near Falkirk.

I was very impressed by the care and attention he received, whilst in there.
The staff were amazing, the room was spotless.
The food was excellent and I was made to feel very welcome, even was allowed to bring my dog. Accommodated to all our needs. Thank you.

My husband was a resident at the Walton Care Home for 6 months. Because of a number of incidents and the general level of care, he has now moved to a different home.
1. His wheelchair was lost by the home and to date no arrangements for replacement or compensation have been made.
2. My husband was
left sitting up in a chair all night as against being transferred to his bed.
3. He had bruising and bleeding on one knee. This wasn't brought to my attention and when I asked staff about it no explanation could be given.
4. He received inappropriate food resulting in weight loss.
5. Decisions in his change of diet weren't agreed with me.
6. Inadequate support at mealtimes and with liquids.
7. His medication was administered irregularly or missed out.
8. His personal hygiene was inadequate. No baths or showers, rarely shaved or teeth brushed.
9. General cleanliness was poor especially in his room, with spills being left and surfaces not cleaned.
10. With the exemption of a few staff were unfriendly.

I am very sorry that you feel that your husband had such a poor experience. Some of what you raised had been managed through our complaints process and through meetings to discuss. However, in order to address fully what you have raised now we will look into and report back to you further as part of our commitment to good quality care and as part of lessons learnt.

My father-in-law has quite severe dementia and can have very challenging behaviour. The staff are wonderful about recognising when he is having a bad day and adapt their care/approach to him as required. All staff are pleasant and attentive and treat Dad with dignity.

It took two weeks for her belongings to be moved from her original room to a smaller and colder room. I eventually moved them, some were not moved and when they were, they were left leaning against the wall waiting to be hung up.
Clothing is clean but can take time to come back.
Shortage of pillows
- there one day and then gone.
Has now been in the room for four weeks, asked for a bath but was only given a bed bath.
Complaints of being hungry.

My mother-in-law was in here for just under 6 weeks before her passing. Most of the staff were good at what they did but lack of leadership sadly let them down. On her arrival from hospital, her room wasn’t ready and the family had to help tidy it. My mother-in-law was often left unwashed or dressed
for hours. Despite speaking to the house manager nothing seemed to change. The staff were always friendly and obliging but it didn’t seem right that the family always had to ask and sometimes help rather than care that should have been provided. As an amputee, she required a hoist to help her in and out of bed/chair and several times we were told the hoist wasn’t working due to the battery being out of charge which left her in bed for long periods of time. Not all staff were identifiable due to lack of uniform or name badges, in general this care home needs a big shake-up in my opinion.

It's quite difficult to fill in some ratings as some of the carers are excellent and some are poor. Information is not passed onto other carers (important). The approach to my mum could be a lot better, she does have mild dementia and this is often ignored when she refuses to wake up for food and personal
care. The approach by some carers is not appropriate. The manager listens and promises change but it doesn't happen or it happens but doesn't last.

Mum came to Walton House in October from the hospital and I have to say the care she has received is 100%. Care and support from all the staff and management. Mum is paraplegic and has lost her speech and the girls (as we call them) all make her laugh and smile. They always keep me informed of any issues,
of which there have not been many, and are always happy to answer any questions I have. The atmosphere here is so relaxed and Mum feels very much at home. Her time here so far has been happy under difficult circumstances and a massive life change for her.

Having to put a partner into a nursing home is not a nice experience. However, realising that it would be impossible to care for my partner at home, we looked at a number of local care homes. We are very pleased with our choice as it is a light, bright environment and the management and staff are really
caring and supportive. My husband has been in the home for over two years now and throughout lockdown the management and staff were as flexible as guidance permitted. Very satisfied.

Current Review Score: 6.9 (6.854)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 6.9 (6.854) out of 10 for Walton House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 3.5 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 3.479 for Walton House is calculated as follows: ( (20 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (10 Poors x 2) + (7 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 3.479

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.375 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Walton House is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.25

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
