Celebration of a 60th diamond wedding anniversary for my uncle and aunt. All staff are amazing and could not be more helpful. They all go out of their way to take great care of my uncle. They made a wonderful day for my aunt and uncle's 60th wedding anniversary and for friends and family to celebrate
their special day. Truly wonderful home and staff.

Smyth Lidge has been our saviour. My dad came here for two weeks of respite care. We could not have asked for better. The care, staff, activities and desserts are outstanding. The staff have gone above and beyond for my dad, and I'm extremely grateful. My dad has been very happy here, and the staff

It wasn't easy making the decision to put Mum into a care facility, but now that we have, we've realised it was definitely the best thing to do. The staff are all amazing and are taking great care of her. She has done more in the past three weeks than she has in the past year and has constant stimulation
and people to talk to, reassure her and care for her.

We cannot recommend Smyth Lodge Care Home enough. Our Mum went into the home for respite care after two nasty falls and was so happy and well cared for she has not returned home. The carers were excellent at keeping in contact with the family and let us know how Mum was settling in. Our Mum continually
tells us how lovely and kind the staff are and how happy she is in her new home. It was not an easy decision to move Mum into care, and Smyth Lodge helped both Mum and all of us as a family. Mum is happy and safe, and we can ask no more. Thank you to everyone at Smyth Lodge.

Although my father was at Smyth Lodge for a brief period, the level of care and professionalism was greatly appreciated by myself and my brother. Unfortunately, he recently passed, but it was made a lot easier to bear just knowing that he had someone with him at the very end and was always made comfortable
and out of pain. The level of nursing care he received made his last days a lot more comfortable, and as I don’t live near, I was always made aware of every stage. I have no hesitation in recommending this home to anyone looking for a suitable place for a member of their family. All members of staff are helpful, even in these trying times, and are always available for any problems which may arise. My dad, due to his frailness, did not join in a lot of the daily activities, but they are there if anyone wants to participate, and the staff really do go the extra mile to make sure residents have plenty to do.

My father, who has dementia, is a resident at Smyth Lodge, and from the first instant, they have treated him with care and respect. Since Covid begun, it has been difficult for everyone, and Smyth Lodge has handled the situation very well, ensuring the residents are occupied and cared for whilst lockdown
is in place.
Every member of staff that I have met have been friendly, and I know that my father is being well cared for. The activities that my father joins in with allows him to socialise with the other residents, which is so important for his mental health.
When my father appeared to be unwell they took the decision of calling an ambulance (as a precaution), and I am so very grateful that they did as whilst the ambulance crew were in attendance, my father had a heart attack and without them being there, I very much doubt my father would still be here.
A big thank you to all the other staff who are caring for my father.

My mother has been at Smyth Lodge since September 2019. She settled in well and has been very well cared for. It was just five months later that Covid struck and lockdown happened. This meant that we were unable to visit, but we felt that Mother was being well looked after, and we were able to continue
communicating by phone and WhatsApp. The staff had to put in a lot of extra work to cater for the needs that relatives could no longer take care of. An activities team was set up, which has been wonderful in providing a variety of creative ideas to keep the residents entertained and occupied. My mother was particularly sorry that she could no longer go to Church, but the Church has provided recordings of the services, and the carers have made sure that she is able to see them on the big screen. When there are problems, the staff communicate them promptly and are very helpful in sorting things out. I am very happy with all aspects of the care provided by the home.

My mother has been in Smyth Lodge since 1st September 2021, and I have nothing but praise for the excellent care she has received. The staff are very caring, and as my mum has dementia, we are very grateful that her carers keep us informed about how Mum is getting on. Her room is bright and well kept,
as is the whole Lodge, Mum constantly praises the food. The whole home is coping well during the pandemic.

All the staff that we have dealt with at Smyth Lodge have been helpful, courteous and generous with their time, particularly in helping arrange the transfer of our mother from a local hospital to the care home. First impressions of the home with regard to maintenance and cleanliness are excellent. There

Smyth Lodge continues to offer great care with patient and kind staff. My sister is looked after extremely well, and I have peace of mind when I leave after a visit, knowing that she is safe and well cared for.
Staff are always friendly, happy to say hello, even though I know they have a difficult
job to do.
The activities are amazing and bring joy to the residents and the families who see them on Facebook. (Especially good for the members of the families who live abroad).
It is lovely that we can now go into the home to visit, the staff have managed the Covid crisis very well, and my family and I are very grateful that they have been kept safe.
The atmosphere in the home is warm and caring.

My mother has been in Smyth Lodge since the 7th of August this year. As soon as we viewed Smyth Lodge, we knew mum would be comfortable. Her room is lovely with her own little patio. The staff are all very caring, when I visit I am made to feel welcome. She has her own en-suite and a carer will help
her to shower and dress. Mum enjoys her meals and has gained some much-needed weight. The activities are varied, mum has joined in most of them and she enjoys having her hair done, also a pedicure. She has people to talk to or privacy.

Mum moved into Smyth Lodge at the end of January after a spell in hospital. Everything was done to make Mum feel settled and after the initial adjustment period, Mum has settled well. The staff have all been great. Mum suffers from dementia and knowing she is safe and well cared for in every way gives
us real peace of mind. It is difficult in these Covid times which makes it hard for us to spend as much time with her as we would like, but she is doing lots of activities and looks healthy and happy.

Mum has been looked after so well at Smyth. She is comfortable and feels she is pampered every day. Unfortunately, Mum suffers from dementia and has mobility problems, but her needs are catered for on a daily basis, and a variety of suitable activities are in place to keep her motivated. Just a few
recent activities have included ‘crufts’, ‘world book day’, ‘60’s afternoon’ alongside games and physical activities on a daily basis.

Tracey Cheeseman

Job Title: Home Manager

I’m a qualified general nurse and I’ve worked in nursing since the 1980s. I worked in emergency nursing for 20 years before moving into social care, first managing a small home and then managing larger homes. Before joining the Smyth Lodge team I was managing a 120-bed home.


I feel strongly that I and my team are here to help residents to live their best life. It’s important to see them as holistic people. They’re a husband or wife, brother or sister, a mum or dad or a best friend. There’s a lot we can learn from them.


I love hearing residents and colleagues laughing together. Humour is so important. I enjoy engaging with my team, with the people we care for and with their loved ones. I enjoy combining my nursing skills with being a leader. I believe that being a nurse – and a home manager – is an honour.
