Our family live in Australia so this was the first time we had been able to have a face-to-face visit and participate in all that Speedwell Court has to offer. We were welcomed and joined in with the activities with my father and other residents. The garden and the cafe were well utilised. The standard
of cleanliness high. The care in presentation as well as the genuine care and affection shown to the residents is outstanding. Now we know that Dad is well looked after it helps enormously with peace of mind. The quality of food and the use of vegetables from the garden was also witnessed. The security and safety precautions were very evident - and although Dad is not keen on this aspect - we are! Dealings with staff and management were professional and friendly.

Mum came in after a fall at home and had an operation on her hip. She has been here for a few weeks and has had a special time for her to gain her confidence and to be looked after. We would have no hesitation for her to return, either respite or full-time if needs be. Thank you all again for all your

What a lovely place Speedwell Court is, the staff have been absolutely fantastic with my mum, who was only with them for a short time. She needed palliative care at the end and was treated with such dignity and kindness. I was always kept up to date with Mum's condition and nothing was too much trouble.
I would highly recommend Speedwell Court.

She had the most wonderful care by lovely young carers, who made her family and friends feel welcomed and were very supportive during her last few days. My father received excellent care. He started coming once a week to take part in the activities provided. He always came home saying how wonderful the staff were and how he had enjoyed the food. He then spent 3 weeks at Speedwell Court, the care, compassion, and dignity he received was excellent. Sadly
he needed palliative care, but the staff were excellent till the end. They ensured Dad was comfortable and we were able to be with him and stay with him afterwards.

Generally a good experience but spoiled by the unreliable flushing of the toilet in the ensuite bathroom. When I mentioned this to the care staff, a maintenance man came and fiddled with the cistern which improved the performance for a short time. It then became unreliable again. All staff pleasant
and efficient and some (eg the activities manager) outstanding.

My stepfather moved into Speedwell Court in August last year. The staff were very reassuring, nothing was too much trouble, always helpful and attentive. He was not managing at home after the loss of his wife (my mum). He settled in really quickly and was soon calling it his new home. The staff have
got to know him well, he likes to spend most of the time in his room, but also likes to watch a film in the cinema room, enjoys gents club and the live entertainer.

My Mum stayed here for 2 weeks for respite care. The room and facilities were excellent, although my Mum was reluctant to join in with activities and social dining, preferring to stay in her room. The staff were excellent, although we did wonder if there was a shortage of staff, particularly in her
second week of stay, as she complained of no one answering the bell for long times. As the home was closed to visitors due to a Covid-19 outbreak, it is impossible to know if this was actually the case. We only got to know one member of staff as a member of the management staff, she was a lovely lady for which nothing was too much trouble.

I was a bit worried about putting my wife into a respite home but could not have chosen a better place. She has improved so much thanks to the excellent staff and such a lovely building and gardens etc. When I visit I almost feel like staying there myself.

Mum went into the care of Speedwell Court in a bit of a state. In the time she has been a resident she has gained weight, is more cheerful, and looks so much better. The care she has been shown by all your staff has resulted in such improvement. The activities are thoughtful and have kept mum smiling.

From the start of arranging a quick admission to Speedwell Court during covid, the vast majority of the staff I met with during the short time my father was resident in Speedwell were kind, thoughtful, helpful, professional, and courteous. He was generally well looked after until he passed away. My
thanks go to the members of staff who went out of their way to support me in his final days which was very much appreciated. My review reflects the positives from my experiences.

From initial contact with Speedwell to my father being admitted as a resident was less than a week! Speedwell is the full ticket. The home offers very comfortable accommodation, fabulous food choices with every meal, countless activities on offer, caring staff who are willing to talk and share moments
regarding my father's care daily if I wish. Knowing he is happy, and more importantly safe, is a weight off our mind. Love this place!

Hi I am Sam, Catering Manager. I’ve been working in a professional kitchen environment for the last 16 years having stared my catering career as soon as I left school.


I worked my way through the ranks starting from kitchen assistant, learning the skills and disciplines on all levels and have been fortunate to work with some excellent chefs.


After major surgery and spending almost a month in hospital in 2018, I saw first-hand the impact that care and food has on individuals. I realised food is a big part of peoples day when living within a residential setting and decided that I wanted to help make a difference to people during this time. That was when I made the change from commercial catering to care and I haven’t looked back since. I like caring for people and strive to provide food that residents look forward to and also enjoy getting to know them and interacting with them on a daily basis.


I relocated from Berkshire to Hampshire last year and was excited to be offered the role at Speedwell Court and join the amazing #AbbeyfieldSociety family.


My hobbies outside of work are fitness, enjoying all aspects of the outdoors and have a passion for photography which I share via my Instagram page.
