Alban Manor is a family-owned nursing home, close to St. Albans town centre. Nursing staff are on site 24/7 and are supported by a team of skilled carers. The Windsor Suite, located on the ground floor, provides support for 37 people who need more help with everyday life, including help with physical care needs. The Balmoral Suite, on the first floor, provides support for 43 residents who may have a dementia type condition or other mental health needs.

All bedrooms are en-suite with a homely feel. Personal living space is important and residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms by bringing in small pieces of furniture, ornaments and pictures. All bedrooms have profiling hospital beds for comfort and ease of access.

At Alban Manor you will find a friendly community. There are beautiful communal lounges and dining spaces for residents to enjoy. These include the art deco film house and zen wellness centre. The activities team ensure there is plenty to fill the days. From yoga to bingo, gardening club, quizzes, music sessions and hairdressing and so much more. Plenty to join in or just to sit and watch, whatever mood takes you.

Food is nutritious and prepared on site by the chef and his team. Dietary requirements and special requests can be accommodated.

Care at Alban Manor is person-centred and residents, and their families, are actively involved in care planning. Here individual personalities are nurtured and respected.

My husband has been in Alban Manor since last June. I could not have wished for him to be in a better place. He's in a lovely room overlooking the garden and when the sun's shining he gets full sun, this is something he has always loved. He is very happy there and it's truly home to him. The food is
good varied and plentiful. The staff are absolutely lovely, they are caring, kind and attentive to his every need. Even though he can't communicate with them verbally he knows the different staff members and responds well to them with smiles and gestures. They do an amazing job and show huge compassion for those they care for. I have been so impressed at how friendly they are to me too, regardless of what time I visit. Everyone is so welcoming, whether they are office staff, front desk staff or carers, they always smile and take time to chat with me. I've got to know some of them really quite well over the past 9 months. I think the place is very well managed, it runs like clockwork.

My dad was admitted a few wks ago into Alban Manor for a period of 4 wks. It was an emergency admission, the nurse and carer on the night insured that the room was ready and the following day the admissions nurse was excellent in formulating a care plan and registering him with the local GP. His erratic
behaviour at the time of admission was quickly diagnosed by the GP practitioner and appropriate referrals were made in a timely and effective manner. I found my dad was happy and comfortable at all times with the staff who were able to see to his needs. He wanted to have beer with his meal, this was provided and he enjoyed his food especially fish and chips with dessert. The staff also allowed me to dine with my dad which was brilliant. The home is very clean and the staff looked happy and well-presented. Big thank you to everyone at Alban Manor.

Alban Manor came to our rescue when we needed emergency care for my mother due to a family death overseas and family illness here. Staff went above and beyond in enabling her to be admitted at short notice and I'll never forget their kindness at a hugely stressful time. My mother was so well looked
after there, and on the phone mentioned how kind the staff were. As she has short-term memory loss as a result of a stroke this is quite unusual for her. When I collected her, she looked relaxed, well, and well cared for. I could tell that she'd felt safe and secure. The staff were upbeat, energetic, kind and patient - the sort of skills that are vital for looking after elderly people and treating them with respect. I felt the home was tailoring its care to the individual rather than delivering a one size fits all service. The home itself was bright, welcoming, spotlessly clean, and with a nice sense of busy-ness about it. This atmosphere suggested to me that it is a well-led place.

I took my mum to Alban Manor, and I could not have asked for better care. The staff were attentive, kind and reliable. The matron was very organised, efficient and helpful when my mum was admitted. Leaving my mum in such capable hands made me feel confident that she was being cared for by the staff
like a family member. My mum really enjoyed the food which was nutritious and the menu was thoughtfully planned. There were morning and afternoon activities that my Mum was able to partake in. With my mum having a complicated medical history, I appreciated that the medication and specific dosing were accurately dispensed and hygiene was exemplary. Thank you for all your hard work.

My mum has Parkinson's and she recently stayed at Alban Manor for respite care - we cannot emphasise what a difference her stay made both to her health and how beneficial it was for the immediate family. Knowing Mum was receiving the best possible care for her condition and was in the safest hands,
meant we did not have to worry about anything. The Matron was extremely reassuring and nothing was too much trouble. All the staff have been extremely patient, caring and are knowledgeable of personal care needs - we had the most efficient check-in process where a detailed care plan was discussed. Any questions at all that arose during Mum's stay were dealt with swiftly and the care team were in touch with any updates as required. Mum thoroughly enjoyed all the delicious meals during her stay and especially loved all the activities that were on offer - she took part in everything and has returned home with Christmas decorations that she proudly painted for the grandkids!

My mum went to Alban Manor Nursing Home recently for two weeks of respite care following a stroke. The home manager could not have been more efficient and helpful in assisting us with this situation. The most prominent thing to me about the home was how very kind and caring all the staff were in helping
my mum at this difficult time. It is an extremely well-run, caring home - would highly recommend.

With all the stress and worry about my dad having to go into a nursing home, I'm very happy that we found Alban Manor and they had a vacancy. We looked at other nursing homes, including their CQC reports and it's quite shocking how some are run. I just wanted my dad to be safe, happy and looked after.
I noted Alban Manor's CQC result for management but wasn't concerned about that and in the months my dad has been there, I've seen no evidence of problems. In fact, we wanted my dad to go there because a relative had worked at another nursing home where the manager had worked and she was very impressed by her. All the staff are lovely. They are caring and patient, even when doing hard work for patients who can be difficult. They know how to handle dementia patients and are busy but not run off their feet. My dad sees them as friends and they talk cheerily to us relatives and clearly know my dad, despite the home being a big one. I've got more to say but not enough room...

After a fall, my dad was unable to stay at home. From the first phone call I made to Alban Manor, I felt we were in safe hands. Moving Dad into a nursing home was not something we had planned to do, but he soon settled in. The home has a happy feel about it - it's bright and airy, clean and very comfortable.
Dad's room had everything he needed, and he was encouraged to bring things from home to make it his own. Dad really enjoyed the home-cooked meals and cakes very much. All of the staff are very kind and caring, and always had time to have a little chat with Dad and always treated him with dignity. I have nothing but praise for all the staff at Alban Manor and have no trouble recommending it.

I cannot recommend Alban Manor Nursing Home highly enough! When my brother was in need of longer term care, we wanted to find somewhere that had a warm, caring and family-feel environment for him. We honestly feel incredibly lucky to have found such a gem of a home for him. The staff go above and beyond

My Mum, who has dementia, has been amazingly well looked after for the last two years by the Alban Manor team. At times, with her mood and anxiety, this has been very tricky to do, but the staff's professionalism and their ability to see past those times and see the person behind the illness, means
they see the Mum I know. When needed the team have been proactive for Mum or have taken time to just simply sit with her. Mum's needs have changed over the last two years and her care has reflected whatever she needs. I have peace of mind that Mum is well cared for. The question below about activities, is tricky to answer, as yes lots is put on for residents, but Mum isn't really able to partake of so much at this time.

My father was transferred for nursing care of his dementia and orthopaedic injuries in early 2019 to Alban Manor. The care he received throughout his stay was faultless up to when died in late June 2022. The pandemic and its cruel restrictions meant we had to trust the home at the most vulnerable time
of our father’s life, and they repaid our trust with overwhelming care and respect. I am finding it hard to express in words how much we owe the people at the home - the receptionists, the nurses and auxiliaries, cooks, cleaners, managers, and owners. Thank you all, from me, my family, and on behalf of my father.

My mother was transferred from Basildon Hospital to Alban Manor as she was terminally ill and edging towards the end of her life and could not return home after a fall. This was funded by the CCG as I lived locally to Alban Manor and this meant she could be near me and I could visit daily and I could
stay with her daily and evenings until she passed away, after 2 weeks and 2 days. The Manager, Nurses, the reception staff and all the carers, HCA's are all absolutely wonderful and so kind. My mother was treated and cared for with the utmost dignity and respect and this was so important to her and us, as a family. This move from hospital enabled other family members to visit and spend time with her in her last two weeks of life. The staff supported me also emotionally and nothing was too much trouble. It is a happy place and the atmosphere is warm and friendly and so caring. The garden is a lovely place to sit, and the food is amazing. My mother had the best care she could have had at the end of her life.

Our Mum moved into Alban Manor Nursing Home July 21, she was very poorly and could no longer live independently in her own home, she was 94. Over the months Alban Manor became Home, the staff treated her as family, her health stabilised and she enjoyed the company and support that living in a nursing
home offered her. For years Mum had “coped” at home with the help of carers, but after a short time of moving into Alban Manor she became relaxed and peaceful in the knowledge that she was being well looked after and there was always someone to help her if she needed it. I and my siblings were with our Mum as she passed away, we witnessed the love the carers gave Mum in her final hours. They were respectful and emotional as they said goodbye to her while offering us support too. I know that everyone thinks they don’t want to “end up in a home”, but for Mum it gave her 8 months of really happy times and allowed us to step back from caring for her and spend quality time with her as her children.

My Dad moved into Alban Manor in June 2021 as his Alzheimer’s had become too much for my Mum to cope with and he needed 24-hour supervision. Dad settled in really quickly and seems happy there (which isn’t easy - he’s not known for being easy to please!). He’s not very sociable either but often times
when I go to see him he is sitting in the TV lounge with the other residents. It’s so nice to see him that way. From my perspective all staff there, from management to reception, to nurses and carers, they are always polite and friendly and know be by name (which can’t be easy with all relatives wearing masks). That’s one of the reasons I enjoy my regular visits, it’s nice to have a little chat about my Dad with the people who see him most! I know Dad can be difficult to deal with but they have managed to look after him without any complaints from him. He tells me he likes it there, the staff are nice and the food is good. I love him dearly and I know he is being well cared for.

My elderly Mother has been in Alban Manor for two and a half years. During this time, her health has deteriorated significantly, but at each step along the way, the care my Mum has received has been modified to better suit her needs. This has been done in consultation with my family. The Management
team are always willing to listen and welcome feedback. The Matron really cares about all the residents and leads the way in ensuring her team show compassion, respect and care at all times. The care home demonstrates strong family values - from the moment you walk in the door, you are greeted with a friendly welcome from the receptionist, and all the staff, regardless of role, are hard-working and friendly. Alban Manor has done everything it can during the pandemic to rise to the additional challenges and have kept the families of residents informed at all times. The team are always lovely to my Mum, for which my family are truly grateful. I have no hesitation in recommending Alban Manor.
