My Nan was not cared for adequately at this home. On 2 occasions whilst I was there she was given food she was intolerant to, despite this being listed on her notes. When Nan was in there for 3 weeks staff were surprised to learn that Nan had terminal cancer, and was registered blind. The manager explained
these details were on her notes but she couldn't make the staff read them. As a result Nans needs weren't met. Staff rarely switched her telly on and we'd regularly find her sat in bed with the door closed and no tv on. Any activities the home had never included those that were bed bound. Pet visits, singers or entertainment were never extended to anyone who couldn't get out of bed. I asked a carer if they could change nans bed as it was soiled, but I was told no as she was bed bound. This was rectified once we complained and other staff sorted it. On my visits it was clear that nans needs weren't being met. My mum & aunt had regular meetings with the manager, but not much changed.

The staff, care levels, and attention to learning who we children are in relation to our mum is exceptional. From the first visit, I understood the comments of all the staff. I came into Fernley Court for respite after major surgery so that I could recover enough to look after my disabled husband. Not knowing what to expect, after two weeks it is now my absolute pleasure to write a review on Fernley Court as a "tick box" would never do this beautiful care home justice!
The
building itself would rival any five-star hotel..the decor is so subtle and so tasteful.
The food is delicious, beautifully presented with lots of choice and always served with a smile.
Most importantly every single member of staff gives us 100% of their caring attention. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about Fernley Court only a very big heartfelt thank you from the bottom of my heart to a particular member of staff and all the team.

If you're ever worried about whether you're making the right decision about putting a loved one in a home, try not to be. Fernleigh Court has changed my views on care homes, as this is a lovely setting. All of the staff at Fernleigh Court Care Home took such good care of my mum in her final few days.
Although
she didn't know where she was, they treated her with the utmost care and respect. I also cannot thank them enough for every smile, hello, or wave I received during my visits to, this meant so much to me.
No matter what section of the home staff work in, I will never forget their kindness, they were all wonderful. It's a beautiful care home that they can be very proud of.
My mum's only wish in life was to not be put in a home, but sadly due to her circumstances, this couldn't be avoided towards the end. However, I couldn't have picked a nicer place for her and I'm sure if she had known, she would have been happy with her placement.

As a family, we feel privileged to have mum being so well looked after at Fernleigh Court. Mum is currently enjoying 6 weeks of respite care. She is very well looked after for all her many health needs. All her needs are met including consideration of her mental health and emotional wellbeing. The environment
is more like a nice hotel than a nursing home and the meals are superb. The rooms are lovely and have everything she needs. The team gently ensure that she eats her meals in the dining room, rather than staying in her room all day, and that she gets the opportunity to enjoy a variety of social events. We really are very grateful for the love and support given to our mum. As relatives, the team are considerate of our feelings too and always find time to answer our questions and put our minds at rest about how she is. We would definitely recommend Fernleigh Court to anyone considering residential care. Thank you Fernleigh Court.

It is the first time my wife has been in a care home, and what a surprise. With the willingness of the staff and the comfort she receives from them, she soon was quite at home and amount friends. My mum arrived at Fernleigh Court on 21st May and was already at the end of life. The staff took great care of her. I could not find fault in their care, commitment and friendliness. The place itself was very modern, clean and welcoming. Mum didn't eat any food whilst there so I can't comment on that.
If ever I need a care home myself I will seriously consider Fernleigh. Thank your whole team.

Although my mum was only at the home for six days, we were very happy that she came to you. Her care was first-class, and we are so thankful she passed away in such a lovely place!

My mother was a resident at Fernleigh Court for just over a year. She was very frail with dementia. She was bedridden. Her behaviour was very challenging at times. During my visits, I always found the staff welcoming, approachable and willing to discuss mothers' care. They showed my mother great understanding
and kindness also respect. The staff were exemplary to my mother and my family at her end of life.

My mum was a resident at Fernleight Court for just over a year. She had dementia and other health issues. From the moment she became a resident the care she received was exemplary. Every member of staff treated her with respect and care. Despite being nursed in bed she did not have bed sores and she
was always clean and well-dressed and all her needs were met. In her final days at Fernleigh before she passed away my sister, brother and I was with her, and we also received care and compassion from the staff who arranged a guest room for us to use, offered food and drinks and showed genuine concern. We felt that our mum was not only cared for but loved by the staff. Thank you.

The standard of food has gone down with dishes often being inedible as the pasta is hard/cold or meat too tough. There are many wonderful staff but the night staff aren't as good and it's taken a lot of asking to get simple things done like hearing aids charged and put in first thing. Mum was often
still without them at 10-11 o clock. It's a basic need for her and I wish I hadn't had to keep asking... it made it very stressful for me at a time when things were hard enough. I can't sing the praises highly enough for some of the staff... they're kind and compassionate. Just a little more effort could make this home a great one rather than adequate.

This review is negative, it is based on documentary evidence obtained from a number of sources via Access to Health Records Act 1990. My findings demonstrate what goes on behind the scenes of a ‘posh’ nursing home. This review is published in the public interest. Nurses failed to register my mother
with a GP or complete temporary GP registration. My mother was not administered with pain relief even though pain relief medication was supplied on transfer & booked in (MAR). Nurses ran out of prescribed medication, MAR details a raft of incompetence. MAR details a GP that retired 7 years previously & not registered with GMC. Baycroft obtained JIC medication on day 6 later despite my mother's repeated complaints of nausea & vomiting from day 1. My mother had a 1:1 carer. She was left unattended & discovered with her leg wedged through the bed rail, no apparent injury. Baycroft nurses failed to seek professional palliative care (Mother was on the palliative care register) The list goes on.

We respectfully request readers of the review take into account the change in ownership and management of Fernleigh Court. Since taking over the home just over a month ago, Country Court has been working diligently towards maintaining the high standards that the company is renowned for, as evidenced by our award-winning status. Our group currently operates over 40 care and nursing homes throughout the country that are registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC). Due to the size of our Group, we fall within a CQC group called market oversight, where we are ranked highest for compliance. Taking care of our residents is our number one priority. We firmly believe it is unfair to attribute past issues to our current management, and the resultant negative impact on our reputation will not accurately reflect the current status of affairs.

Mum has settled in well. Good quality of care, accommodation and staff. Activities team work hard and residents are encouraged to introduce new ideas to the schedule. I find the monthly meetings for family members of benefit.

My name is Tendai Matore-Konzvo and I am the General Manager at Fernleigh Court. Previously, I was the Clinical Deputy Manager and prior, worked as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse and Registered General Nurse for a combined 16 years.


Fernleigh Court is a warm and friendly home where everyone is made to feel loved, safe and comfortable which we extended to resident’s friends and families. All staff give care that is bespoke to each resident. Activities of daily living, likes and preferences are tailored around individual needs.


As General Manager of our home, I strive to do the best for residents, their families/friends and my dedicated colleagues. I aim to make Fernleigh Court a home from home, so our residents are stimulated, and all their healthcare needs are met by giving a high standard of care whilst staying with us.

I have been a Head Chef for 25 years and am lucky enough to have worked in kitchens across the world including Sydney, Australia and Phuket, Thailand. I have cooked for several high-profile celebrities including Sir Elton John and Princess Diana.

My versatility has been an asset throughout my career and I have adapted to different environments having worked in hotels, gastropubs, high-end restaurants and now Fernleigh Court. I even spent 6 months cooking at Yarlswood Detention Centre!


I have mentored students from various local colleges and won a national purple umbrella award with my last apprentice. I also earned and retained a rosette for 3 years whilst working at a busy local hotel where I trained ‘Masterchef - The Professionals’ finalist, Louisa Ellis straight from catering college.

These rewards are nothing in comparison to the feeling I get from delivering high-quality, delicious dishes to the residents of Fernleigh Court, Kempston and seeing their smiling faces when they enjoyed my food!

Above all, I am fanatical about cooking and want everyone to enjoy whatever dishes my team and I create!

My name is Michelle and I have been a receptionist here at Fernleigh Court since we opened in November 2019.


Before coming here, I used to volunteer at Bedford Central Club doing Bingo and organising weekly bands to come sing I’m a people person so I love it when my Bistro area is full of residents enjoying themselves with the various activities we have going on whilst enjoying our delicious cakes. I also enjoy puzzles and crosswords so you will often find me helping residents with their jigsaws.


My hobbies include reading (thank you Kindle Unlimited), eating Yorkshire pudding, walking my husky and going away in my caravan and I’m lucky enough to have visited some amazing places which have been recommended by some of our residents who love telling me of their adventures. I love star gazing with my Astrophotography mad son and I am often found at 3 am outside in the garden with a blanket!


I absolutely love my job here at Fernleigh Court and I am lucky enough to work with such amazing & caring people and consider myself very lucky to be working here.
