Welcome to Ribble View!

Ribble View is a specialist care home in Preston which supports people living with complex mental health needs, neuro-disabilities and physical disabilities. The home is also registered to support adults with learning disabilities, where it’s the right fit.

The home is part of Exemplar Health Care, a leading provider of specialist nursing care for adults living with a range of complex and high-acuity needs.

Ribble View has a Nurse-led team that cares for some of the most complex and acute individuals, who would often be in a hospital setting if not placed in the home, enabling them to stay in the community and reducing hospital and secure facility admission.

The specialist nursing home provides person-centred care and rehabilitation which focuses on building everyday living skills, maximising independence and empowering people to live as fulfilled lives as possible.

It offers longer term support for people living with life-limiting or degenerative illnesses, as well supporting people on their journey from being in hospital or living in a secure setting to community-based living.

Ribble View has 30 bedrooms, each with an en-suite, across three units. The home also has communal dining and living spaces, as well as a smoothie bar, café, beauty salon, pub and large accessible garden.

•        Haslan Unit supports up to ten adults living with complex mental health needs and behaviours of concern.

•        Beacon Fell Unit supports up to ten adults living with complex mental health needs and physical disabilities.

•        Avenham Unit supports younger adults living with complex mental health needs and physical disabilities, including those who display behaviours of concern and who have Huntington’s disease.

I find that the general level of care provided to my wife and other residents is higher than in other care homes. The staff that work here are inspirational because the care they provide really matters to them. My wife is living a longer, happier, healthier, life as a direct result of intervention from
a number of staff members.

Since attending Ribble View my partner has made so much progress. He was in hospital for over 10 months stuck in a bed. At Ribble View he has learned how to stand and walk with the support of his physiotherapist. My partner's speech has improved also. The staff at Ribble View are friendly and welcoming,
nothing is an issue. The staff work alongside my partner to ensure he progresses for what his future holds.

My wife is the longest resident here at Ribble View. I've been impressed by the level of care she's received and feel that the staff are genuinely interested in the residents well being. The staff are lovely and take an interest in the family as well as the residents. I like that this home is purposely
built as a care home as it makes it easier for residents and staff.

My partner moved to Ribble View in March 2020 - just before the first national lockdown - and I have been so impressed by the standard of care. The home has been set so many challenges and setbacks due to Covid, but they have kept us well-informed and up-to-date at all times. The home itself is really
lovely; clean, modern, fresh-looking and spacious rooms. What makes a real difference at Ribble View is the people who work there. I know them by name and they all know my partner well and have a really good understanding of his needs; they are all friendly and positive and warm. They work as a team and frequently go above and beyond. My partner was really unhappy in his previous setting and we were worried that he had limited potential. He has gone from strength to strength at Ribble View and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

Warm welcome. We were offered a drink after a car journey. Our first glimpse of our relative confirmed everything we had been told a) by phone b) by photo/video evidence. We were grateful for the regular communications and very happy that our relative is obviously well, happy, settled and thriving.
There is such good humour and positivity about Ribble View staff; it is so nice to feel reassured by them. We know that, finally, our relative is in safe hands.

Reply from Denise Hampson, Commissioning Home Director at Ribble View

It’s our pleasure to care for your relative – and we are so glad you noticed they are thriving with us. And we do have a lot of humour and positivity here - one of our values is fun, and that’s something we take seriously!
We take a lot of pride on the very highest quality care – and we look forward to your next visit, whenever possible.

Current Review Score: 7.9 (7.944)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.9 (7.944) out of 10 for Ribble View is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.2 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.194 for Ribble View is calculated as follows: ( (11 Excellents x 5) + (21 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 4.194

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ribble View is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 6 = 0.5

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
