Hazel End is located in the market town of Bishop's Stortford and provides friendly and comfortable residential and dementia care for up to 66 residents in single ensuite rooms. The home is located in a quiet residential area whilst being close to transport links and local amenities and attractions.

Hazel End benefits from facilities such as a coffee area, bar area and quiet lounges. Hazel End continues to welcome new residents for residential and residential dementia care.

The dedicated care team gets to know each resident, working with them and their loved ones to create detailed care plans so that their needs are always met. We had the very difficult decision to put my auntie in the care home last July. There was a few hiccups as my auntie ended up in hospital before she had the opportunity to visit the home but the staff where incredible and liaised with the hospital in London to have her transported up here to Bishops
Stortford. All staff showed her compassion and a genuine care to her needs at arrival and every day since.
The home have a schedule of activities to keep the residents occupied and engaged through the week and our family has really enjoyed the celebrations, inviting families in to share with their loved ones.

Hazel End is a lovely welcoming care home. My mum has been a resident here since March this year and as a family we are really pleased with the care given to her by the care team. The staff encourage us to visit and use the facilities as if we were visiting mum in her own home. The tables are always
set beautifully at meal times with a menu and good choice and variety of food and the home is kept immaculately clean. Mum is seen by the Doctor, District Nurse and Community Physio as required and the Senior Care Team report back with regular updates.

It was Mum's decision to go into a care home and she chose Hazel End. She became a resident in October 2022 and although at first found it difficult to settle, thankfully with the kind support and care of all of the staff Mum is now very content and happy. There was a period when the catering was poor
but since the arrival of the new chef the food is now of a good standard. The activities are varied and due to the commitment of the staff at an excellent standard. Mum is encouraged to take part despite her extremely limited sight.

Outstanding care from every member of the staff including those not directly involved in dad’s care (housekeeping, reception, kitchen etc). Carers are very well aware of dads needs and understanding of his Alzheimer’s. They encourage him and support him in every possible way. As soon as we visit, we
get an update on how he is doing, from every member of the staff we meet on the way to visit him. We could not recommend Hazel End Care Home highly enough. A very happy and supportive home.

We Zoom my mother every evening, and almost without fail she complains about the quality of the food, we pay an awful lot of money and it really should be better. We would happily meet to discuss suggestions.

This home is good as a persons own home, it takes the vision of a home to another level. The care team staff are fabulous and show consideration and care to the guests and to each other. I would recommend Hazel End Care home it is the perfect place to be in for our circumstances and I can't wish for
more. I want to thank everyone who has helped Mum to not only be here but getting her dignity and zest for life back. Thank you.

On each arrival to the home, the staff have been very kind and pleasant. The home is very clean and welcoming. The staff have always offered me a cup of tea and it never seems to be a chore for them. There has been a couple of occasions when there's nobody at the desk and I've been left standing in
the foyer for some time until somebody comes and opens the door. On visiting my mum's room in the morning a couple of times her room wasn't made up, and the commode hadn't been emptied. The staff have responded well and quickly to my mum's medical emergencies and have kept my brother and I fully informed of her situation. Overall, the home is excellent, clean, tidy with no rubbish and each floor is unique having different rooms for different things, sun room/tea room/cinema etc.

I have always found the staff at Hazel End Care Home fantastic to deal with, they are all very caring and always smiling. Very impressed by the care given to the residents. Lovely, friendly atmosphere whenever I visit. After a settling in period my mother is now very happy. Although she is blind activities are tailored to her needs.

My mum moved to Hazel End Care Home in mid December, it has taken a little while for her to adjust to a different way of living but she is now settled and happy. The staff are very approachable and compassionate. If you have a question to ask it is always answered honestly and in a professional manner.
I am content in the knowledge that my mum is well looked after and safe. Also if my mum became unwell I know that a member of staff would contact me immediately.

My mother-in-law has been a resident since December 2022 and I cannot fault the care she has been given from day one. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, the private rooms are well set out and decorated, the communal areas are spacious and beautifully furnished, the food is excellent, the activities
are brilliant but most important of all, the staff are all friendly, patient, caring and kind. I cannot recommend this home highly enough. It is quite expensive but you get what you pay for!

My Father came to Hazel End Care Home in April this year with mild needs due to a couple of falls, he was placed on the top floor requiring help to remind him to change his clothes etc and to monitor any falls.
Unfortunately due to a rare dementia diagnosis, his needs progressed really fast. Hazel
End have worked really hard changing plans to accommodate his needs on an almost daily/weekly basis, nothing has been too much trouble and they are always trying to find ways to keep him comfortable and out of harm. I would say they have always gone over and above to meet his needs.
Just this weekend they changed practices again to protect him, my daughter who works in a specialist neurological hospital said "that is really going over and above" "I am really impressed".
The day and night staff in the home are really caring and attentive to the needs of the residents, they are friendly and always smiling constantly supporting and reassuring residents and relatives.

Every effort has been made to help my father settle. He likes the staff and his room. Staff help him when he asks. He has made a few friends and when I encourage him to he's joined in activities and enjoyed them.

I have a comfortable room and well looked after most staff are pleasant and helpful (but some are a little forgetful!).
There have been problems with food, it is not always served on hot plates.
Sometimes what is served does not correspond with the four-week menu or even the daily menu. Deserts often
have too high a calorie count. The call button in my room frequently fails and the installers have not yet been able to resolve the problem.
My overall impression of the home is good and I am certainly not unhappy.

In response to the call bell, I can only apologise and it is a very strange situation as even the engineers cannot find the fault with the setting in your room and this has had to be taken back to the manufacturers for further investigation. I do hope the doorbell we have given you as a temporary solution is working well?

Sadly my lovely mum was bedbound recently due to illness and for a while couldn’t take part in the central activities, so the care team brought the activities to mum. They also arranged for mum to be able to sit upright in her comfy chair which is lovely. Mum has had manicures with her friend in her
room, facials, her hair blow-dried, little beaver visits and chocolate Easter eggs delivered to her room. In addition, on mum's birthday, her room was decorated and the whole team came to her room to celebrate with her. In addition to the above, the team also set up face time for me so I can chat with mum at any time during the day, which I really appreciate and sometimes they join in our conversation which is also lovely.

Mum has been in Hazel End Care Home since May 2021, she has settled in well. She is a lady that loves company and getting involved in whatever is going on. She enjoys sitting in the reception area to watch the comings and goings of residents, staff and visitors and likes to chat to everyone. It’s lovely
hearing about her day and her growing friendships, especially with the manager. Visits to Mum had been in the Garden room or the library it was just the 2 of us, and while I had met some of the staff I didn’t feel I was getting to know them and seeing Mum interact with them. I do realise this was down to the restrictions of Covid and staffing issues, but this is being addressed by the manager and his team and I personally have seen that the changes are working. This weeks visit I found mum chatting with staff and she was so happy talking to us both. She enjoys playing scrabble, watching formula 1 and cooking, the staff are working hard to ensure that she continues to enjoy the things that she did in her own home.

Dad joined the community in January 2022. He didn’t want to move or to go into a ‘home’. When dad arrived at Hazel End Care Home, he thought he was in a hotel. The warm, welcoming reception area and his room with en-suite facilities gives this feel to the building. The facilities were an important reason
for choosing Hazel End. However, it’s the people who make Hazel End a truly special place. The new lifestyle managers have introduced so many activities for the residents that provide the mental stimulation that dementia sufferers need. Dad told us that ‘there’s lots to do here’. Again, activities are great but it’s the way they are run, with enthusiasm, care, encouragement and kindness that’s the best bit. I get regular updates on how dad is doing and I have witnessed those impromptu moments where a resident has needed a hug or a comforting word and carers provide this in abundance. I know Dad is getting great care. The recent relatives’ meeting helped to understand priorities and to give feedback.

During lockdown mum's dementia had progressed and we were not equipped to take care of her any longer. It was a heart-breaking and frightening decision to place Mum in full-time care. During the pandemic, it was impossible to conduct thorough tours of homes and we had to rely on this site, the CQC website
and each home’s website to see reviews, pictures/videos of the environment to make decisions. Hazel End was the stand out choice - their website and social media presence gave a real insight into life at the home as the team there are absolutely wonderful and Mum was made to feel very welcome. The facilities are so clean and homely. The team are well trained and versed in risk assessment and management. Their activities are exceptional, the nutrition is quality and the communication invaluable. We can't thank them enough for everything they did for Mum during her 4-month stay, they felt like extended family. In short, Hazel End sets the expected standard for other homes to be measured against.

My Name is Claire Sparks and I am the Home Manager at Hazel End Care Home,


I have worked in care for 9 years starting off in the community and then coming to Hazel End just before we opened our doors.


Prior to working in care, I worked in the hospital as a domestic and one lady thanked me for supporting her and she sadly passed away. This really made me rethink and I was proud of myself for supporting her and had a sense of fulfilment for how grateful she was.


I started working at Hazel End as a Senior Carer, I progressed to Deputy Manager then Care Manager and now Home Manager. I have learnt so much working at Hazel End Care Home and progressed within the home. I'm proud to support our residents and make each day enjoyable living with us.
