Located in historic Dartford, Woodford House is a comfortable and friendly care home, offering nursing care to members of the community.

With serene sitting rooms, places for residents to enjoy their hobbies and interests and relaxing dining rooms, Woodford House has many places in which to relax, dine, exercise, socialise and be creative including its very own pub.

The delightful garden and patio is the ideal spot to spend time with friends and family and is happily looked after by some residents. The bright, comfortable bedrooms and living spaces are all easily accessible by wheelchair. The home also offers a small number of patio rooms.

The care home’s team has worked hard to create a family atmosphere, encouraging residents to eat and celebrate special occasions together. Residents are invited to decorate their rooms with small items of their own furniture and treasured belongings so that it feels a home away from home. Daily life in the care home is thoughtfully designed to support mind, body and soul.

The Home Manager makes sure that all residents receive the kindest possible care and the extensively trained team will deliver all the nursing, specialist care and support services that your loved one requires.

Personalised care plans consider not only medical, personal and dietary needs, but also the resident's likes and dislikes, religious preferences, and suggestions from family members that might make their stay that little bit more enjoyable.

I could not praise the staff and manager highly enough. Nothing is trouble for any of them. They've shown care and commitment each time I've been in, but also made us visitors feel welcome as well which always puts me at ease.

Staff very caring and helpful. It is hard having my mum in a home but reassuring to know that she is looked after so well. Currently, my mum cannot join in activities due to poor health but she enjoyed time spent with other people when she could.

Mum has been made very welcome in the Woodford House nursing care community, and she is being well cared for.
The staff are exemplary in their roles, and very eager to assist whenever asked. Being distant from Mum (I'm living in Canada) and with covid-19 curtailing physical visits, the staff accommodate
with my weekly Skype visits, and individual caregivers even contact me via their personal phones on WhatsApp! Special shout-out to the lady in the front office for coordinating my virtual visits with Mum and the other staff for those little "extra" visits! It means a lot during this difficult time - thanks!

Staff and carers are friendly. I have several health conditions and carers are sympathetic and try to prevent pain in their treatment of me. I.e. when giving me an all-over wash or shower/hair wash, dressing me and hoisting me off the bed into a chair. Then later hoisting me back on to the bed and undressing
me. My condition has deteriorated gradually since 2014 and I am unable to stand up or walk or sit down by myself. I have my own room with a pleasant view over the grass area and trees outside so that I can watch the birds.

Mum was admitted to Woodford House after a fall and she needed urgent care until she could hold her frame again. Mum actually enjoyed her stay and said it was like being on holiday. The team gave her the time of day and were happy to sit and listen to her. I read the reviews as soon as mum was admitted
because I did not have a clue about Woodford. I read about problems getting through on the phone and so I went and purchased a dementia mobile for mum. I read about lack of TV and wanted mum to be stimulated and so purchased a small TV for her room. The staff put these in place and helped mum to use the mobile. The mobile took the pressure off the staff to have family members calling constantly and mum could call who she needed to. So overall it was a great experience for mum and wonderful staff. However please label up personal possessions as I did not do for mum and they were difficult to track down when she left the home. Thank you, Woodford, for looking after mum.

Placed here by the hospital after hip replacement. Could do with televisions in rooms as residents seem to be in bed from 8pm to 8am.

Reply from Julie Caygill, Hospital Liaison Team Administrator at Woodford House Care Home

Thank you for your review. We are sorry that we did not meet your expectations during your stay at Woodford. Unfortunately we do not currently provide televisions in the bedrooms, but residents can bring their own televisions for their room should they wish. We do provide a television in the communal areas and residents are welcome to use this whenever they wish. We will consider the provision of a television in the rooms in the future.’

My mum was discharged from the hospital to Woodford House. We didn't know what to expect, but it was so nice, we didn't want to leave. The staff couldn't do enough for us. One young girl came in on her day off and was doing training, but stayed to help, what a lovely girl. It was also lovely and clean
and so bright, that is also what cheers the patients up. I hope the other houses are refurbished to this standard. You have nothing but praise from me.

Very clean and high standard of decor. Staff are responsive and have a good attitude. Beds are much better than most homes with full electrical adjustments and hospital standard mattress.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.925)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.925) out of 10 for Woodford House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.4 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.556 for Woodford House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (42 Excellents x 5) + (28 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.556

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.369 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Woodford House Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 39 registered maximum number of service users is 7.8. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.8 = 0.769

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
