Lakelands Lodge is a residential and nursing home situated in Fleetwood, Lancashire, with views over the boating lake and the Irish Sea.

The purpose-built home features communal lounges, a hair and beauty salon, dining rooms, an activities room, a library and landscaped gardens. Specialised dementia features include breakaway spaces and clear signage. Each bedroom includes an adjustable profiling bed, a flatscreen television, WiFi, a wireless alert system and an accessible ensuite wetroom.

My dad has been in Lakelands Lodge for a while now and for me the most important issue is that he is treated with dignity and compassion which I believe he is. The staff overall are patient and kind but occasionally appear a little understaffed. The home is a beautiful purpose built care home, with
an airy open feel, a great view over the boating lake, really good-sized bedrooms with good-sized en-suites. The manager is always available to discuss any issues and is very patient and understanding. The food is very good considering they are having to cater for so many varied appetites, my dad loves a cooked breakfast which he appears to have most days. Overall the place is kept clean and tidy. I believe overall the best interests of the residents is the main priority. When I visit my dad it is really good to see how the staff treat him, people in reception, the manager all greet him warmly, he knows them and mostly seems genuinely happy there, which gives me great peace of mind when I leave.

Lakelands Lodge really feels like a home from home. The rooms are well-equipped and inviting. All areas are clean and in good condition. The staff are very friendly with the residents and relatives. Nothing is too much trouble, and they are very attentive to residents' needs. Overall, there is a very
relaxed atmosphere in the home. I feel that the residents are safe and well cared for.

When my mother arrived at Lakelands Lodge she had lost so much weight but thanks to the dedicated staff especially the kitchen staff who make the most delicious cakes and desserts which she loves, she has regained most of the weight that she had lost. Cannot fault any of the health care assistants who
go above and beyond to care and take the time to talk and make her feel at ease, along with the receptionists and activities staff. The manager is approachable and usually available if there are any issues.

My mum has recently moved into this home, and I cannot fault it at all. My mum had Altzeimersand Dementia and is in the secure unit, as she tends to wander. I feel confident that she’s safe there. The staff are so lovely and genuinely care for the residents. It’s very laid back and has a lovely homely
feel to it; everyone knows everyone, and you can see how much the staff enjoy it there. The rooms are lovely and spacious, and all have private wet room/shower rooms. We had a problem with the TV when she moved in, and it was resolved immediately. It’s such a difficult decision to find the right home, but I really do think this is the best one we could have found.

Rooms are kept clean and are very comfortable and spacious. The staff are very caring and friendly. Lots of activities for residents. Management is very approachable. My father-in-law is well cared for, as he has fairly complex needs.

Failed to care properly for my parents, both have dementia. There's a difference between trying to keep independence and neglecting to give basic care, repeatedly wearing the same dirty clothes, no clean clothes, no help to select the correct clothes, the day they moved out Dad was squeezed into Mum's
trousers. No continence support, on the day of the move, there were wet clothes in with those that I was packing, more found going through the clothes at home. Body marks and injuries were missed when assisted with showering. Also missing from body maps. Left to use inappropriate substances and implements to shower, just a few of the issues. In 2 years haven’t been involved with care plans, not for want of asking. Within the first week of being in their new home, we have been invited to review the care plans. Within 30 mins of being in his new home, Dad said he didn't want to go back to the old place! Complaints still unanswered as per Athenas' 28-day policy. Instead, 28 days' notice was served.

Providing care for elderly residents, living with dementia, is a collaborative process among the residents’ loved ones and the provider. It was clear that the collaborative relationship was broken in this case and, try as we did, we were not able to fix that to your satisfaction. As a consequence of that breakdown, and with your parents’ best interests as the paramount consideration, we terminated their residence at the Lodge to allow you to find accommodation that you do find to be satisfactory. We are pleased to note that you seem to have achieved that and we wish your parents well for the future.

My husband was on a discharge-to-assess basis from the hospital. I chose the home for its fabulous position overlooking the boating lake and sea, for my husband who is totally immobile with Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. His quality of life is much improved and he has settled really well. Hopefully, we
have found my husband's new home from home for all the reasons stated.

On raising concerns, I was e-mailed by a representative of the Care Home on 13/7/22 and informed that she would be getting in touch with me within the 28-day period as highlighted within their Complaints procedure. It is now 79 days and still counting.
I was also informed by the Central Administrative
Department of the Care Home Group on 22/4/22 that due to a change in my relative's circumstances that a refund of the fees would be made within six to eight weeks. Whilst some of the money has been repaid a sum is still owed by them and it now stands at twenty-nine weeks.

I do not have a problem with staff, rather lack of them. They are very understaffed which puts a terrible strain on everyone working there plus it also puts the patients in danger. I think there should be a law to prevent this from happening. I don't believe a home should be allowed to operate without
the correct ratio of carers versus patients. I actually feel sorry for the people trying hard to provide the care that is needed when they are obviously exhausted.

I am sorry to hear you feel the Lodge is understaffed, to ensure we operate with the correct staff to resident ratio we use a nationally recognised dependency tool which calculates the staff ratio based on the residents' care needs over the 24 hour period in addition to this we have hospitality staff on each day to support our residents at mealtimes and with fluids and snacks. I hope this answers your concern raised in regard to staffing.

My mother suffers from Alzheimer's and was removed due to concerns regarding the lack of stimulation in the residential dementia unit. Her physical and mental health suffered significantly in her 4-week stay here. Thankfully she is settled and happy in her current home and in a much better state.

My husband has been in Lakelands Lodge since November 2021, apart from about a month when he was in the hospital with urinary sepsis and then Covid. The care has been excellent, and the staff have responded to his different needs as his condition deteriorated. We could not be more grateful, not only
to the nurses and carers but also to the staff on reception, cleaners and occasionally the kitchen staff. They have been caring, kind and understanding, not only with my husband but also with me and our family.

I was first able to visit my mum in early November 2021. I was very impressed with the home, and in particular with the carers. My mother's face would light up whenever they came into the room, which showed me that she was content and happy. She looks well cared for, clean and healthy, and is treated
with dignity. She has a sea view room which she loves, and there is always something to keep her interest. I feel it is very important that she sees the outside world. I would highly recommend this home as it does feel like a home from home (or a 5* hotel!). The staff were so kind to me as well, and very accommodating. Thank you Lakelands Lodge for all you do.

Lakeland Lodge looks after our daughter's needs extremely well. They also allow us to visit twice a week which is very good considering the present COVID restrictions.
