My father came here for respite but think he will end up staying. Your staff are always so welcoming and introduce themselves and say hello. Nothing is too much trouble. It feels like a high class family run hotel. The standard of cleanliness, welcome, accommodation and staff is excellent. I would highly

At the time of her admission to Abbots Wood Manor, my very frail 89-year-old mother had been bedbound for five months, these five months having been spent mainly in hospital plus a few weeks in another care home.
Within days of arriving at Abbots Wood Manor, she was enjoying short daily breaks in
an armchair. Staff told me that the first time they did it, a beaming smile spread across mother's face on realising that she had been placed in a chair.
In subsequent weeks she progressed to being dressed and taken to the dining room for her dinner. I could hardly believe it when I was asked to bring her clothes in! The carers are very kind and patient with mother and are prepared to invest however long it takes to facilitate these little excursions from her bed and from her room.
Rooms are spacious. Food and drink is excellent, with mother's intake being so much better since her arrival at Abbots Wood Manor.
All staff are very accessible and approachable.

I have visited my brother at Abbots Wood Manor every week for the past eight months. The care he is getting is top class, his room is excellent and he is getting good meals all the time.
There are a lot of activities provided and the staff are great with the residents and everything is well organised.

My mother-in-law is currently in Abbots Wood Manor. Since arriving at the home she has become so much less anxious, she is relaxed and happy. The staff are so kind, caring, friendly and professional. There are always daily activities for the residents to get involved in. My mother-in-law has been out
for an afternoon tea, which was great for her confidence. Nothing is too much trouble. We also love the bistro, the coffee is great and it’s such a lovely place to meet up socially and it doesn’t feel at all like a hospital or clinical. The private lounges are also so lovely to sit quietly and play board games.

An excellent care home which has great management and staff. Great environment, super rooms and facilities. Very good range of activities and top work by the entertainer organiser. The care staff are all superb and committed. Far more than we have been used to. Really passionate about care. The food
and catering are superb! The homemakers have a lot on their plate. The only occasional area of slippage is cleaning but only rarely. We are glad the care is a priority rather than cleaning.

Having reviewed nine nursing homes, Abbots Wood Manor came out on top. The overall feeling of entering the home and the facilities offered we impressive. Now that my brother is a resident, I am equally impressed with the care he has received. In addition, the staff have shown a level of care and concern
towards me that I did not expect. Abbots Wood Manor warmly welcomes visitors, family and friends and I love that they allow dogs, justifying that it is a home. The building, the rooms, the decor and the furnishing and the staff. All to be proud of.

My sister and I viewed many care homes before choosing Abbotswood for our father. We knew upon entering the home and after our first meeting with the manager and regional relations manager that this was a special place. My father settled quickly and has been very happy living there. All the staff are
wonderful, nothing is too much trouble. The food is delicious, plenty of activities going on and daily walks in the gardens if the resident so wishes. The accommodation is light and airy and has a lovely feel. The homemakers have made it a very special place for my father. Now his health is declining we have been met with care and compassion and he is still happy. This is a very special home, one of a kind.

This was our first experience with respite care and was nervous about finding the right place while we had building work done. We need not have worried, all our concerns were listened to and supported throughout my husband's stay. Although he would have preferred to be at home with me, it could not
have been a better place. The building is modern and spacious. The lounges are comfortable and quiet. The food was plentiful and delicious. Staff responded to his fear of being alone as much as possible. He was in safe hands with people who understood his dementia and protected his mobility. Thank you to everyone for their kindness to us both.

Helena, a dedicated member of the Hamberley team since November 2020, began her career in healthcare as a Registered Nurse after graduating from Sussex Downs School of Nursing in 1982. With two decades at Eastbourne District General Hospital and nearly 20 years as a Registered Care Home Manager including roles with Methodist Homes and Care UK, her expertise is accentuated by international experience with the European Platform of Rehabilitation. Helena also spent time on kibbutzim in Israel and supported the American army in Germany. Outside her leadership role at Abbots Wood Manor, Helena enjoys running in the countryside with her dogs, and supporting her granddaughter with learning to ride her first pony.
