What a find. My sister specialises in placing elderly people into care in her role in Australia, so you can imagine we gave Abbots Wood a thorough pre-admittance review and they stood out from the other three care homes we spoke to by a country mile. Dad needed two weeks of respite care after leaving
hospital and from the man that went into the home, to the man that came out just two weeks later was beyond our expectations. They couldn't have been more helpful to us, nor more solicitous and kind to Dad. The clinical manager was one of the strong reasons we chose Abbots Wood, but it was also because of its modern clean, and comfortable rooms, its amenities for the residents, and not least because it is a specialist Parkinsons unit. Dad never wanted to go into a care home, but he has had a great experience and is particularly complimentary about the food! Thank you for looking after him so well. It means everything.

All the staff have been welcoming and caring for mum since arriving three months ago. The home and facilities are well thought out and presented. Mum appreciates the activities and adores the food! Visiting is well managed and safe within covid guidelines. Fantastic overall, not the most economic home
but the service, facilities, and care are worth it. Mum feels safe, secure, and well cared for.

Since my mother moved into Abbots Wood Manor six weeks ago, I have been impressed by the depth of care shown to her by the staff. All the care staff who have looked after her have treated her in an exceptionally kind and loving way, making her feel cared for and doing all they can to help her settle

My mum went into Abbots Wood Manor Care Home and already looks like she’s made a huge improvement in her health. The team are fantastic and manage her needs above and beyond what is expected of them. The home's facilities are beautiful, activities varied with lots of choice and the food is amazing -
mum always says when I visit how tasty lunch was. I’d highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a care home. Keep up the good work Abbots Wood Manor.

Abbots Wood Manor is a class above other local care homes in my opinion, from the home itself which is modern with good size rooms and excellent facilities to the lovely staff that work there. The stressful experience of moving my grandmother here from another home during covid restrictions was made
so much easier through the support of the team at Abbots. The care she has received since being there has been excellent and she is certainly enjoying the cooking there! Communication from the staff on my grandmother's well-being and progress has been super and most importantly she is happy and we feel she is in the best place possible for her care and our peace of mind knowing she is safe and very well looked after. Would thoroughly recommend this home.

Helena Barrow

Job Title: Registered Care Home Manager

Joined: 2020

Helena, a dedicated member of the Hamberley team since November 2020, began her career in healthcare as a Registered Nurse after graduating from Sussex Downs School of Nursing in 1982. With two decades at Eastbourne District General Hospital and nearly 20 years as a Registered Care Home Manager including roles with Methodist Homes and Care UK, her expertise is accentuated by international experience with the European Platform of Rehabilitation. Helena also spent time on kibbutzim in Israel and supported the American army in Germany. Outside her leadership role at Abbots Wood Manor, Helena enjoys running in the countryside with her dogs, and supporting her granddaughter with learning to ride her first pony.
