This is a magnificent building. My only criticism as a very experienced horticulturist with 50 years of experience, there is not enough gardening assistance employed. Vast areas of the grounds are neglected. There seems no one to who I can address my professional comments. I am 93 years old, I take
care of planting and maintaining the balcony and daily water the greenhouse.

Reply from Catherine Michie, Event & Marketing Manager at Hammerson House, Wohl Campus

Thank you ever so much for taking the time to give us your feedback and we acknowledge your comments. I have spoken to our director of operations, who would love to update you with the following good news: "When the gardens at the new Hammerson House were first designed, some parts were deliberately 'cultivated' to be wilder and appear more unkempt to encourage a natural look, flora, fauna and wildlife. This was predominantly at the behest of residents and Relatives. However, we recognise now that given a number of years have passed since its inception, work is needed to return the gardens to a satisfactory state, and as such a significant amount of money has been allocated within the 2024/2025 budget to renovate and renew the overgrown areas of the rear garden." I hope that answers your concerns; our director of operations will come and speak to you in person and discuss this in more detail. Very best wishes, Catherine

The care is very good, the setting is lovely but most of all, the staff are very well trained to see the best in residents and to understand their point of view. From the receptionist and all the care and nursing staff, they are all friendly and welcoming. It really makes a difference as I sometimes
feel quite nervous about visiting.
My mother chooses to have her breakfast brought to her in her room The staff have tried very hard to engage my mother in activities but they respect her choices.
I find the transport to the tube station very helpful. It is excellent that there is a team of physios on site and a good GP service.
My mother enjoys the garden which has very good non-slip paths enabling her to walk safely with her stroller. I like taking my mother to the cafe, it is a change of routine for her and the food is nice.

Thank you ever so much for your kind and detailed review. It means a lot to us to know that you are happy with your mother's care and that you feel welcome when visiting. Do let us know if there is anything we can do to support you or your mother any further. Best wishes, Catherine

This is an amazing home that looks and feels more like a hotel than a care home. The staff are very kind, efficient and professional. There is a good amount of space for the residents to move around within their household, as well as downstairs in the Garden and the Cafe, and there are lots of activities
to keep everyone busy. There always seems to be something happening, which is wonderful. Communication and patience are very good between the house and families, and also within the household. The Carers are very busy, but are kind, thoughtful, and patient with each resident.
Downstairs where residents mingle with other households there are also lounges, an entertainment room, and a patio and gardens to share. A hairdresser/beautician comes twice a week and an activity programme which is stimulating and community-building completes the package.
It is a privilege to be a volunteer here, and I look forward to coming to help, I feel I can make a difference.

This is an amazing home that looks more like a hotel than a home. As soon as you walk in, one is greeted with a light airy feeling. My aunt moved here and was put into a residence but unfortunately, that did not work out and she was moved. She has settled into the new household. The staff are very kind,
efficient and professional. There is a good amount of space for the residents to move around within their household, as well as downstairs in the garden and the cafe, and there are lots of activities to keep everyone busy. There always seems to be something happening, which is wonderful. Communication and patience are very good between the house and families, and also within the household, even though they have their hands full most of the time. I am happy that my aunt is here.

My parents moved here in June 2021, when the building was brand new and there were few residents. There were the inevitable challenging circumstances you might expect in a new home in the middle of a pandemic. However I was confident that the home would pull through these as it is not a new home, just
a new building, and I knew it from its earlier premisses. Now that we are emerging from the pandemic the early teething problems are vanishing. There is a marvellous range of genuinely interesting activities, and great care is taken to encourage my parents to be involved and to meet their individual needs and interests. The premises are exceptional: large beautiful rooms and communal areas including a garden and cafe. The permanent staff are all either very good or excellent (the home has a strong policy of avoiding agency staff, though that has not been entirely possible in these challenging times). The food is good, with great effort made to ensure individual tastes are met.

Hammerson House has been rebuilt. It has been expertly designed using all the latest good practice guidelines and residents have the benefit of rooms inside households of about 20 people who share a dining room and lounges. This feels like home. Then downstairs where residents mingle with other households
there are lounges, a coffee shop, entertainment room and patio and gardens to share. A hairdresser comes twice a week and an activity programme which is stimulating and community building completes the package. The carers are kind and value each resident so the care feels more personalised. As a Jewish home, it keeps kosher and celebrates the festivals and special Shabbat dinner. Opportunities to join in flower arranging, bridge, art appreciation, exercise and reminiscence discussions mean residents are active and participating. The coffee shop means they can host guests who will enjoy the environment.

My father has been in Hammerson House since Oct 2021. It was a really hard decision to move him away from care at home - but unfortunately with his degenerative condition, it was not sustainable to keep him at home.
Hammerson House has been a home away from home - the activities, personal care as
well as support for us as a family has been incredible.
We are so grateful for him to be in such a warm and safe environment.

Wonderfully designed home with the most exceptional staff. They are all incredibly caring and loving with my mother, who enjoys spending time with them. The home itself is state of the art, ergonically designed, but also with extras like a physiotherapy room, hairdresser and a cafe where you can buy
a capuccino and a light lunch. This really is the Claridges of the care home world.
My mother enjoys the art history lectures, bridge games and quizzes.
The only area that needs improvement is the residents' meals, which can be good one day and poor the next. But the most important element of any care home is the staff and here they are fantastic.

Current Review Score: 7.8 (7.753)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.8 (7.753) out of 10 for Hammerson House, Wohl Campus is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.2 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.542 for Hammerson House, Wohl Campus is calculated as follows: ( (15 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 4.542

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.211 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Hammerson House, Wohl Campus is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 116 registered maximum number of service users is 23.2. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 23.2 = 0.086

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Registered Manager

I qualified as a Registered Nurse in 2013 and began my career in acute nursing. After gaining extensive experience in the NHS across various specialities, I initially joined Nightingale House in 2018 as a Registered Nurse, where I worked for nearly two years before relocating outside of London.

My passion for elderly care has only strengthened over the years, and I’m delighted to be part of this sector. I returned to Nightingale Hammerson in August 2023, joining the quality team and subsequently becoming the Interim Registered Manager of Hammerson House, Wohl Campus a year later.

As Manager, my greatest satisfaction comes from working alongside dedicated colleagues, all of us united by a shared purpose: to make a positive impact on the lives of our Residents every day.

Job Title: Director of Care Services

My career began when I qualified as a General Registered Nurse. After a short period in the acute sector, I specialised in the care of older people and since then have never looked back. I went on to specialise in Health Services Management with the Royal College of Nursing and completed a Master’s degree in Public Health.
I have worked across Health and Social Care with some great corporate brands, and this is where I cemented my leadership skills before joining Jewish Care at the end of 2017.

I have also won several awards; perhaps the two that I’m most proud of are the Wise Woman in Leadership Award by Faith Magazine in 2015 and, most recently, the Health & Social Care Leader of the Year 2021 by Black Women in Care.

As a leader, I enjoy influencing others positively, connecting with people, problem-solving, motivating colleagues and empowering Teams to deliver great results. Most of all, I enjoy mentoring and coaching.

When I joined Nightingale Hammerson as CEO in July 2022, I knew I was joining an organisation that had an incredible reputation for providing exceptional care. Seeing this in practice is a great privilege.

The Care sector remains a challenging environment to operate in. However, we remain fully committed to providing the best care to the most vulnerable in our community and in spite of the financial pressure, find innovative and effective ways to ensure our Residents lead fulfilling lives, have a sense of purpose and feel loved and cared for in our Homes.

It is important that our Teams recognise that every role is hugely valued in Nightingale Hammerson. I am determined to remain hands-on and support the team to deliver care to the best of our ability. I know that I could not do my role without the incredible Care and Support Teams so I prioritise ensuring they are well cared for so they can provide exceptional care to our Residents.
